I’m the same way. I can do all kinds of tricks but suck linking them together. I’ve tried to link them via transitions but still suck at that. I can’t so sexy at all which isn’t a big deal to me since I’m not planning on stripping or dancing for my hubby. I do pole to have fun and keep in shape.

When I initially told him I wanted to take a pole dance class over 2 years ago he didn’t seem to mind. I think he thought I’d just take the class then move onto the next thing. But after my 2nd class I was hooked then bought my pole and put it in my garage. He’s never really felt comfortable with me poling, but to some degree was supportive since he has spotted me when I was learning the Aysha split grip after I had fallen off the pole and hurt my arm last year.

He’s agreed to compromise with me and allow me to put the pole in our spare room now so that is good. He is going to get a lock for the room though cause he doesn’t want his daughter going into the bedroom accidentally and seeing the pole. I told him at some point she’s going to find out and told him if you make a big deal out of it will be a big deal. I understand though his ex wife might not like it but thats just too bad. I’m not poling infront of her or encouraging her to do it. She’s only 6 years old right now.

So hopefully by next weekend my pole will be moved into its new space. I already took the bed apart and cleared out the room. Finally I’ll be able to practice again.

Thanks for all your feedback ladies. This site is truely a blessing!

Glad it went well! Wishing you a speedy recovery. I’m sure you’ll be itching to get back on the pole.

Started poling just over 1.5 years ago although I’d been interested in trying it for over 5 years. I was 31 when I started.

Welcome to the site. I live in Pittsburgh as well. Are you taking lessons at any of the studios are just teaching yourself.

I started off with a 50mm xpole then went to a 45mm instead once I started doing more advanced moves such as the Aysha although in the studio I try to use both.

45mm is definately easier to get a good grip when doing more advanced holds.

If you are just poling for exercise and fun then it really doesn’t matter but as Veena said if you plan to go to the clubs then stick with a 50mm.

I learned this using the method Jamila describes in her videos. Start from the ground and try to position yourself into it. Once you’ve mastered it from the ground then climb the pole and try it.

I’ve found that having short shorts on so the side of my butt/thigh can press against the pole to hold in position. Its a bit of a balancing act. If the pole insn’t tacky enough sometimes its hard to hold the position.

Be careful or you’ll end up hurting yourself where the sun don’t shine https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Even if you have classes around doesn’t mean you should take them. Lots of studio’s have instructors incorrectly teaching and really have no background in fitness or understanding of basics.

I don’t go into any of our local studios to be taught anymore and found that I learn better on my own by recording each of my practice sessions and having my hubby spot me when learning new moves off the ground and having crash mats. If you don’t already have the art of pole series I’d suggest them as Jamila breaks down the moves very well and they are easy to follow.

So far OMYG does not have any open pole sessions on their updated schedule for Saturday although I’m confirming with the owner. The sessions here are only 50 minutes though which I don’t think is long enough. This studio is about 15 minutes from my house.

Fitness with a twist has sessions from 12:15-1:15pm on Saturday. They are about 30 minutes from my place. They are using generic poles in this studio (not xpole or platinum stages)

Spin on Fitness has a session at 10am and one at 11:15am for 1 hr 15 minutes. I’m friends with the owner so she would most likely let us spend longer if we wanted to and will most likely want to join us. Its about a 50 minute drive from my place.

Let me know what you think will work best.

    Excited to meet you!

You read my mind Roxy. I’ve been looking at the schedule’s for the local studios that are within 50 minutes of Pittsburgh and 2 of them are open on November 28th (Saturday) for open pole. Let me know what dates/times work and I’ll see what I can find for us.

    Looking forward to this!!!!

So I went to the Power Pole workshop with Pantera last night. It wasn’t really waht I was expecting. It was really more of a workout of abs, arms and butt using the pole. There was no instruction on any actual pole moves themselves so it was a bit dissappointing in that respect but I did learn alot of new ways to use the pole for everyday workout stuff. I’m glad I did the private session with her on Saturday where we focused on moves I’ve been recently struggling with.

Not sure if this is typical of most pole workshops. Regardless though it was still nice to meet her.

Just had my 1st private session with Pantera this morning. Boy am I sore right now. She did a great job giving me tips on how to do some of the moves I’ve been trying from the floor for example so I don’t fall and hurt myself again.

Monday night I go to a group workshop.

    Yipee.
