I have to echo what nverticalspin6498 has suggested…clean eating will help your body achieve its ideal weight while also helping with those migraines. Basically, if it comes out of a box, jar, or can, then its not “clean”. Its really bringing the body back to basics. There’s many extreme approaches to clean eating, and a major proponent of it is Dr. Joel Fuhrman. His book “Eat to Live” (checked it out at the library) explains how/why clean eating benefits the body is so many ways. Weight loss is just a side effect of his approach.

Hi there! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I have a different perspective than what you’re actually looking for as I only recently became interested in pole and I am 30mos postpartum, so I can only speak of my healing experience after my unmedicated vaginal birth. I still hope you find this helpful.
Based on things I had read online, I expected I would have a tremendously difficult time healing from the birth of a baby. I thought I would be bleeding for months on end and that I would hardly have the energy to hold the baby in those first days and weeks following the birth. Then I became educated on the natural birth process and that gave me a thirst for more and more knowledge. As I read birth story after birth story of unmedicated births, I learned that it was NOT normal to be so run down after birth and it was not necessarily normal to bleed for weeks and months postpartum.
Ultimately, even though my water broke at 35w4d, I was still able to birth my baby out of the hospital, unmedicated, in the water, and completely naturally. We went home less than 12-hours after my daughter was born. I will spare you all the details of my birth (but if you’re interested, you can read my story here: http://babycasablanca.blogspot.com/2011/08/1-fast-labor-1-awesome-birth-center-1.html) but what has stuck with me even after all this time, is how I was completely ENERGIZED after the birth. I didn’t have medicine head and I wasn’t fatigued. It was amazing.
I can’t emphasize enough the importance of adequate rest in the first weeks following the birth, whatever birth you have. It was because I took this “lying in” period so seriously that I stopped bleeding at about 14-days postpartum; quite a departure from the MONTHS I had expected. I don’t know what your specific situation is that makes you high risk and possibly unable to birth your baby naturally, but if a natural birth in your high risk condition threatens your life or the life of your baby, then cesarean is the only option. If you’re looking to getting back on to your pole as quickly as possible postpartum, then unmedicated vaginal birth is the way to go (of course if your health conditions allow). You’ll be able to begin closing the separation of the ab muscles sooner and once those are closed, back to the pole you go!
Feel free to message me if you’d like information on resources to achieve an unmedicated vaginal birth. I’m happy to help in any way I can. Have a blessed and peaceful birth, and HAPPY POLING!

Congratulations on your job offer! I don’t know how long you had to wait for this day to come, but I am so thrilled for you that its here. Two wonderful events all rolled up in one! (new job & new pole)
I completely echo all of the points already raised. Now for the part where I try to help reassure you that you’re not making a poor decision… 🙂
With proper installation (i.e. centered on joist and not over tightened), your XPole should leave no damage whatsoever to the drywall. Its difficult to say if the paint will be affected by the installation as there are about a bazillion factors that play in to the integrity of the paint. As @korinne mentioned, paint damage is nothing that can’t be easily repaired with a little paint.
If you don’t have access to a stud finder (or just don’t want to shell out the money to buy one for a single project), I’ve attached a link to a video that details how to use the “knocking method”. This video uses a wall as an example, but the principle is the same in the ceiling. Depending on the skill of the drywall installer that built your apartment, you may even have visible seams in the ceiling that you can use as a starting point to locate the joist in the area you wish to install your pole. I’ve attached a picture of a crappy part of the ceiling in my home that really exaggerates what I’m talking about.
You go get your pole, gurl! YOU DESERVE IT!
Happy Poling!!!

I was a gymnast when I was a child (ages 4-14) and I absolutely loved so many aspects of the sport. I loved the power that it takes to tumble. I loved (though was never good at) the grace and delicacy needed to successfully navigate the balance beam. The uneven bars were by far my favorite. I remember many nights I would stay late after my class to continue practicing and playing. Gymnastics was a lot of work, but I was good at it, which in turn made it a ton of fun.
Fast forward to October 2013 when my bestie booked a pole party for a friend’s birthday. That party was SO MUCH FUN and afterward, I was completely wiped out. Little did I know then that what we “learned” at this party was how to walk around the pole and two verrrrry basic transition moves. It was still fun as heck and used a bunch of muscles that haven’t seen any action in many many years.
Shortly after the pole party, my bestie enrolled in a proper course at a local pole studio and encouraged me to join her for a drop-in class. In that class I learned a short little routine and a few spins, but most of all, I learned that I could come to love pole as much as I once loved gymnastics.
My work schedule is not compatible with any of the class schedules at the studios in my area, so I am unable to enroll in any organized classes that build upon previous skills taught. This has forced me to begin a home practice which is not really going well. My current fitness level/physique/size/weight is nothing like my former gymnast self and I’m finding my overall lack of strength and flexibility to be highly frustrating. I am accustomed to nailing every trick I try (in my gymnastics days), so not even being able to do anything that resembles pole fitness has deflated my excitement for the sport.
That is what led me here to Studio Veena. I feel like I need to wipe away any/all expectations I had and start over…as the true beginner I am. I have to remember that the only thing that will get me to the level I strive to achieve is to get on my pole every day, following Veena’s method. The weight will come off; the strength and flexibility will return; the pole spins/tricks will follow and I will soon have the skill and confidence to shoot and post videos of myself here.
I feel so lucky to have found a community of pole dancers who come from all walks of life and all different fitness backgrounds. (I just know there has to be at least one other person here who was as beginner as I am.) I appreciate that the unique support system that only this community can offer. Thank you everyone, in advance, for being my inspiration, my support, and my friend.

Really, Independence Day Weekend?? They couldn’t have picked a more expensive time of year in/near our nation’s capital…sheesh!
AZBLANCO just recently posted about trying to attend this and mentioned she was getting married this April, so perhaps she’s looking to cut her costs a bit. Hope this helps and I hope you’re able to attend! Happy PoleCon-ing! 🙂

I am so new to the world of pole that I don’t even know where to find out about pole events. Of course I know about the events at my local studio, but as far as anything national, where do I go to see the calendar of events? I would love to attend something in Vegas or maybe LA since I’m so close. Doubt there’s anything that comes to PHX, but please correct me if I’m wrong.
@azblanco, I hope you get a chance to go to the DC event and the visit to NYC while you’re at it!

I have tried both the Instead SoftCups and the DivaCup and for my anatomy, I prefer the Instead SoftCups. The “tail” of the DivaCup pokes the opening of my v-jay which makes it uncomfortable. I even tried trimming the tail and that didn’t help. I started out with the Instead SoftCups many years ago but thought they were discontinued which is why I went for the DivaCup. Now that I know the Instead SoftCups are in fact NOT discontinued, I have switched back.

I have that off-brand “D-Pole” and totally love it too!! So glad you’re able to enjoy the fun of pole in your home! 🙂 Happy Poling!

This thread was SO MUCH FUN to read through!! It definitely has me wanting to give myself a pole name. If I went with pet/street, I would be Jasper Highland. Kinda porn-ish if you ask me. LOL I’m definitely going to start brainstorming!!

I have the same problem with my pole catching a bit on spin mode. The catch isn’t noticeable to me while I’m poling, but when I turn it by hand, its not smooth. Drives me completely bonkers, but I also can’t seem to find a way for it to stop catching. Mine is also not over tightened and completely level. Hopefully we’ll both get some answers… (fingers crossed)
