Most doctors will want you to wait 4 weeks before restarting exercising. I started hooping day two of being home from the hospital because I had energy! This was baby number three for me. I think I goofily got on the pole and inverted two weeks post partum and everything hurt for days! I waited until my four week and started building back up at that point. I did a lot of crunches/floor moves and I really noticed that after this pregnancy and attempting to get back into shape my abdominals hurt a lot more and are in general much more tender than before. My little one is almost a year old and I still dread ab days.

It’s rare that I let Aunt Flo interrupt my pole relation… Heck she interrupts all of my others, mine and my husbands, mine and my diet. I wear panties under my shorts while poling (normally I don’t) and a panty liner. I take a Motrin for cramps whether I pole or not.

Students often will follow… Especially pole students! We become family and bond, especially if the other dance studio doesn’t offer pole.

Could you teach from home temporarily? You would have to go through getting permits and liability insurance (which often isn’t much). Or offer on location training, where you go to the student’s residence? Just until you have enough clientele and revenue to open independently.

What is really starting to eat at me as a mother of three is teaching our children to pole in a very athletic and graceful manner is taboo but cheerleading competitions where little girls have makeup caked on like an adult and literally shake their butts provocatively is okay.

I second tropical’s black and white. I have worn a neon suit that appeared to be white and my hair looked dark (even tho at the time it was fire engine red) the color photos of it I looked like a stripper! They were both great quality, but the same image was sooo different in color than in b&w

Don’t over think wardrobe or poses. Stick to something you are comfortable in for an extended amount of time. If the photographer hasn’t shot pole before you need a lot of room both vertically and horizontally. Butterfly, Gemini are always pretty. Spins (or the illusion of a spin) are pretty and a simple fan can make this work

If they are beginners fun things like walk/strut, leg works, basic sit and more sultry pole shimmy/caressing type moves are good. Also when I was pregnant I liked having a friend/student that knew how to do a move tag along so when I needed visual demonstrations they could execute (and help with spotting). Incorporating chair work can be a good time filler.

And we are allowed to eat what we want and gain weight while pregnant, don’t fret! 😀 I was there myself recently.

  • Lol and I really want some pole boots! My husbands eBay feed is full of my shoe dreams… Nudge nudge wink wink.

  • I am also a true US 8.5 (at only 5’3″… Ridiculous) I have a pair of 7.5 inch beater shoes that have dice on the heel and I cannot for the life of me remember what size they are and I wanted to order some more Ellie’s. I have my eye on an 8″ pair of red pleaser Juliet’s. My pleaser size 8’s are a little to short for my liking, so I just personally prefer size 9.

I’ve heard of students showing their doctors pictures of what they do exercise wise and suggesting three months or more off. Because the pecs are going through so much it might be much longer. Do you have any pictures of yourself doing beginner and advanced moves to show your doctor this is my exercise, how long until I can start retraining. I know when I was pregnant my obgyn said pole was okay as long as I knew when to stop and not to do it while dizzy, my General practitioner thought I was crazy before pregnancy and saw the dangers over the interest of the hobby.

Ditto Veena. If you buy basic and make it yourself it will be truly one of a kind. If you are not a DIYer there are places to buy costume pieces on etsy, also discountstripper (they run small) and also many dance suppliers for ballet/tap will have pieces.
