MemberAugust 6, 2012 at 11:31 pm in reply to: Is it a must to attend a pole studio to learn poling?I am an advanced level and with the exception of subscribing to studio evens for a few months I am fully self taught. I didn’t subscribe to veena until I was at an intermediate level so you can definitely progress by yourself. Just be careful and take it slow. Progression of a beginner takes longer because you are building a lot more new muscle than an intermediate or advanced level IMO. You can always ask if there is something specific you are struggling with and your will get help.
Just please please be cautious and be well read on pole safety. I see a lot of self taughts not taking proper precautions and injuring themselves because they don’t have an instructor there to help them or give them tips.

I wash my hands with Ajax dish soap directly before poling. Then I dry my hands and clean pole with 90% Rubbing alcohol. Alcohol can be rubbed on hands and body for grip issues as well. Works amazing on chrome 🙂

What kind of pole do you have?

Just get it clamped/banded nice and tight overnight and you shouldn't have any issues with it coming out of the seam. A little does go a long way though. Oh, and when you press it closed and band it if any seeps out wipe it off so the outside of the shoe will remain clean 🙂

I'm a big fan of gorilla glue. I used to be an exotic dancer and it's what I used on my soles when they would bein to peel. It has to sit overnight with pressure on it just fyi so put the glue on and then tie it/band it somehow overnight.

I feel like it should have it's own name because putting elbow hang into google or Pole Dance Dictionary just brings up the embrace. We should name it!

I don't have one yet but I will be getting one in a few months when I move into my house. It's my understanding that it replaces the dome and if you look at the slot on the dome and the slot on the mount they look the same. So the top adapter should sit fully into the mount just as it does in the dome. Sorry if that didn't help at all! Good luck!

I just posted my first pole video on here! It was by no means perfect and I nit picked it to death before I finally decided to put it up. Just go for it! Everyone on here is supportive and if you put it up and tell us what you don't like or need improvement on we can give you suggestions on what to do or things to try. It will end up being a really good progress tool for yourself to go back a month later and look at that video and see what you have improved on and what might still need work. I know when I was a beginner I really liked to see videos of girls that weren't 'perfect' it made me feel normal lol and inspired me to keep going.

I think especially in reference to pole 30 min is an amazing workout. Defnitely rest 1 day in between all strength training, it gives your body time to rest and actually build the muscle which will build it faster in the end, but stretching can should be done daily. As far as time goes really push yourself for those 30 min. I trade off days doing one day strength/learning new moves and then the next day stretching/transitions/fluidity. Rinse and repeat. Also as you continue to advance your 30 minutes will contain different moves which will work different body parts. Mixing it up is really important because the body can get used to the same thing when its done over and over and that is when it starts to decline in effectiveness. So keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about it! It is an amazing exercise but don't forget to have fun too!! Get lost in the music and don't worry so much about it being a 'work out' 🙂

I find that the 50 makes my spins much much better than they were on a 45 and I have tiny little baby hands and I'm only 5'2. Although I did learn all my spins on a smaller diameter pole which may have helped but for some reason I find that I execute them cleaner on the 50, something about the way I hold it I guess. I highly recommend gettingthe X-pole X-pert. It is amazing, really awesome pole. Other than that I used to dance on a brass lil mynx, I think 50mm but I don't remember and I absolutely HATE brass poles. It did not work with my skin I stuck like a bandaid to that thing and had no give at all which was bad bad bad.
