I had this too with both my children during pregnancy. Both babies were big and I had three finger gap. Like you I researched and read all about it and then took my time about exercising and now two years later, thankfully it is back to normal. Good luck, you’ll know what feels right for you x

I think you need to start in like a press up type position. I tried once but as soon as I tried to put on hand behind to grab the pole, you get the full pole burn on thighs and I bailed it! Lol

I think about pushing my legs down straight once they are in position around the pole and just try taking one hand off first. Try each hand off at a time then eventually two together if even for a second. You will be able to try longer once you are confident holding on with your thighs x

I started from scratch in jan this year. Fell in love the first time I tried it. Have my ups and downs, sometimes achieve a lot sometimes feels like nothing. Thought I may lose weight, I have gained although I am firmer and my biceps are now twice the size lol! However I go I am just proud of my 34 year old ass for even giving it a go and the feeling you get when your body responds and does what you want it to is incredible. I have learned ( mostly from lurking on here lol) that it is important not to compare yourself to others, we are all at different stages, but no matter what your stage everyone one here will support and guide you x

Thanks so much, I have lots of reading and planning to do me thinks. The more I read about crap in food the more gross I feel about eating it. I want to be strong so I can pole! Yay! Lol x

Thanks for your reply. I do still eat eggs and milk yes. I need ideas for meals I don’t think I’ve ever had a burrito lol and am bit of fussy eater which doesn’t help. I couldn’t bring myself to eat kidney beans or mushrooms for example cos they feel funny! Lol. I just feel really ready now to fuel my body well and of course my little ones x

I have been poling since jan too, we haven’t even started looking at one handed spins. I think you need to build strength and flexibility with lots of other things before I could imagine feeling ready to do spins one handed. For the moment I am happy trying to do them faster, stronger and just better with 2 hands before I try letting to with one hand.

March 23, 2014 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Frustration of getting the invert

We were shown how to invert maybe in my second month of lessons. Every time I tried I got my toes to the pole, then about the fifth go I bashed my ribs and possibly cracked them. I spent the next two months not even being able to try inverts as it hurt my ribs too much. All the people in my class carried them on and learned a few poses while all I could do was learn to climb. It got me down at first but I soon realised I was fab at climbing and could do all this other stuff that the others couldn’t, then last week out of the blue I realised I had built up the strength i lacked in the first place ( why I got injured), and low and behold I felt comfortable and brave enough to invert. Guess what…. I did it straight off, with a few poses, and best of all I could even do it on my other side. So don’t get down about it, listen to your body, try some other stuff, work on some strength and it will come, then you will be even more proud of yourself cos you really earned it!!
