@ Lana Lee: Are you taking the Beginner's or the Bendie's level contortion class?

Oh, another tip that's helpful for the original problem described is to sit on something (ie. a yoga block, pillow, folded blanket). Having your hips raised slightly will help you hold the straddle position without having to rely on your arms for support. It will also allow you to start working on folding forward by rotating from the hips instead of rounding through the back.

MemberAugust 20, 2012 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Tooth extraction 🙁 how long until I can pole again?I know you probably feel good and raring to go, but I can't emphasize strongly enough… do NOT do anything to jeopardise the initial healing phase after having a tooth removed. I ended up with a dry socket after having my wisdom teeth removed and it was a level of pain I have never experienced before (or since) in my life. If that blood clot in the socket gets dislodged somehow, you basically have bone exposed directly to open air. I have a really high pain threshold, but that deep throbbing pain rendered me completely non-functional and I ended up off work for 2 full weeks recovering.
Please listen to the responses you've been getting here. It sounds like a number of these ladies have the dental qualifications and pole experience to be giving really solid advice. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

I'm super un-flexy and I much prefer Veena's stretching routines to Alethea's. Veena spends a significant amount of time preparing you for the straddle based stretches whereas Alethea uses them more as the starting point. I would probaby say Veena's routines are great for beginner-intermediate stretchers and Alethea's are more aimed at intermediate-advanced stretchers.

If you really are located in the San Fransisco area, you should look into classes at Poletential. I've heard great things about that studio and seen some amazing dancers come out of there.

I have wider feet. I find Ellie fits me well and Pleasers are too narrow, so you might have better luck with Pleasers. I've never tried Tony Shoes. Good luck!

Bump! I took a picture of the mirrors and uploaded it as my profile pic. I measured them today and they're both 28 inches x 93 inches (just short of 8 feet).
Last call before I offer them up to the general public on Kijiji.

I'm pretty sure 12 feet is the maximum recommended height for non-permanent poles like X-Pole and Platinum Stages. You can go higher though if you install permanent ceiling mounts. You should probably talk to the company directly for advice.

As for the shoe sizing, you should see if any of your local sex stores carry Pleaser shoes. A lot of them do. It helps to try some on in person to figure out your best size option, since returning shoes to the US is sufficiently expensive to generally not be worth the bother.

Here's a couple of my favorites:
Carousel –> Back Hook
Forward Attitude (inside leg leads, nothing is hooked on the pole) –> Reverse Attitude
Reverse Grab –> Reverse Attitude

You might find this site helpful:

You just need to filter for Handstand in the Movement list. Most of the useful results are on pages 2 and 3.

My bf ordered the Bobbi's videos for my birthday and they still haven't come. It's been two months. =(

I do Veena's front splits routine and then her middle splits routine right after. I find it works really well that way and it doesn't add that much extra time. Honestly, it takes me as much time to warm up to get ready for stretching as it does to actually stretch.
