Ahhhhh thanks!
My cut is finally healing. It never closed properly and had to heal be secondary intention. Well, ballet classes rock! I’m loving it…and i’ll be taking my first contortionist class tommorow at the circus school where I live. Bicep tendontitis seems to be almost gone…I reckon I will be up on my pole within the next several weeks! I posted about a similiar injury a few/months weeks ago. I’m just getting over some bicep tendonitis(I thought it was a rotator cuff injury but D.r said it wasn’t).It wasn’t that bad at first. It would hurt, but not bad enough for me to stop poling. I pushed and pushed and ended up injured to the point it hurt to lift up my hands over my head. It’s been roughly 3 months now and it’s almost gone ..like 95%. Please rest it, and don’t end up making the mistake I did, even if it "feels" ok.

I decided to post an update incase there are any dancers that have or might come across this thread dealing with shoulder injuries. It’s been roughly a month and my injury just kept getting "re-injured" , or at least it felt that way. i stopped excercising and poling from the advice of Veena. I never felt much of an improvment until I started doing hot and cold therapy ( Veena’s advice) and also started taking anti inflammatories.
The other news is that I never had a shoulder injury! I went to see a sports injury specialist/orthopedic surgeon that didn some tests and X-rays. He said my shoulders are fine, and I actually have bicep tendonitis!Nothing looked torn.I told him the inflammation comes and goes (improved a lot since I have been treating it). I mentioned that when I do weights at the gym it doesn’t hurt, but after the gym…give or take a few hours it hurts a lot!..that dull ache…. He said aslong as it doesn’t hurt at the gym while performing specific excercises it isn’t a bad thing. He thinks its good to start working out "lightly" to build up strength. The pain I feel afterwards is just my bodies inflammatory response kicking in . Doctor said that was actually a good sign? I’d love to hear anyone else’s opinion?

I’ve read many times on here and on other websites about he injuries new dancers get from overuse, and of course bad form (I’m getting over some shoulder injuries myself). Out of curiousity, what do you think is a good amount of time to strength train before attempting beginner moves? I know Veena has them in order to start building up. Is it the ability to hold the pole for at least 5 seconds the sign that you are ready? Would you say at least a month of strength training 3-4 times a week since there are other muscles groups besides upper body that you engage in when working the pole I always debate whetehr or not my upper body strength is good enough. I can do about 10 guy push-ups before needing a break…well right now i can’t because of my glorious busted shoulders:):):):)

These are great. I got resistance badns the otehr day to work on these movements. So, I’m off the shoulders…and staying away from the pole. Is it ok to do weight lifting and strength training (including shoulder) like in veena and fleurs excercises ? Or do I need to quit that too?
Thanks for the help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif🙂 love this website… -

I have a safety mat that is basically a fold out bed. I got it at costco and it really offers great protection for those falls. It cost me around $45. Worth it…you dont wanna hurt yourself https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif:):)

Thanks for this video https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif ! I can hold myself up for around 10 seconds so I guess Im ok to spin https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif. As far as the spins, it was the Chair and Front Hook spin. I’m able to do plenty of the moves with my one arm ( I have been lifting weights for some time now) , but of course my forearms werent stronga t all!I guess I was focusing on my biceps and triceps in weight training. Totally loving Veena’s forarm workouts..they are making a huge difference after only a few times. I do them while Im watching the television.
I do have the spinning option on my pole. Would you recommend learning from a stationary pole first and move to spinning? Does it make a difference? I have already started learning on stationary but the spining option looks more fun!
P.S. This website is distracting…I’m trying to write a paper for a class and study online but I find myself navigating here a lot…LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
