Me. I am an awesome teacher in Cleveland OH! (at least I like to think so) 🙂 I teach on Sundays and Thursdays. When are you coming up?
Chemmie- back me up! -
Charley- It hurts my feelings that you don’t want to be my friend.

OMG I can’t edit. I can’t believe i just typed “you’re” instead of “your.” This is going to bother me for the rest of the night.

Ha. I feel you’re pain. I’m the most awkwardly shaped human for pole (my arms are too short, my torso is super long, my boobs, butt, and thighs get in the way… Chemmie can attest to it!) Before pole I could barely touch my toes. It takes me 6 months at least to learn a new move. All of these things makes me appreciate it even more. The fact that I finally got my middle splits after almost a decade of working on it was almost as proud of a moment as getting into medical school! It took me 2 years to get superwoman, but when I finally got it I was ecstatic.
Additionally, if you ever want to teach, you will be amazing at it! You will know every way to fail at a move and how to correct it! 🙂 While it’s fun teaching people who are naturally awesome, it’s way more rewarding and enjoyable to teach a struggling student who works hard and finally gets a new move! -
45 brass are known to be super flexy. The metal is just more pliable. Don’t be super surprised if there is a little bowing after a while. Anything taller than 10ft I would feel more comfortable if it was reinforced with something or was a 50.

In workshops, you’re taught 4-5 ‘signature’ moves or combos and it’s tailored to the level of the rest of the class (which is usually either way too high or too low for my experience level). I don’t like to take workshops with people who are just amazing at pole; I will only take lessons with people who have a reputation for good teaching (Estee Zakar, Aerial Amy*, Phoenix Kazree, David Owen are my all time favs). I have been let down by some polefessional workshops I’ve taken where the instructor knows nothing about physiology/kineseiology and uses some pretty unsafe teaching techniques. (don’t want to mention names to start drama) A lot of excellent dancers who are just naturally awesome/flexible/strong are terrible at breaking down moves into simple explanations or troubleshooting what you’re doing incorrectly because there was never a time when it was a challenging move for them.
*Star by Aerial Amy because she is my total pole crush and I would have 1000 of her pole babies…or puppies. -
Ha! The latter was my first thought!

Um… How do you get out of that? She looks stuck. Otherwise, so pretty.

I hate to say it, but to me it seems like the more boring the shoe, the sturdier. A lot of these dancer shoes really weren’t meant to pole in and thin straps break easily… My best luck has been with Pleasers of the Adore 708/709 variety. I don’t wear Ellies so I can’t give a good review on that brand.

I feel more comfortable sliding along the toe with the 7in vs the 6. I also smash my toes a little less in general. Not sure if it’s just my craziness but it feels easier to me!

We call it Side superhero. Are you familiar with Genie? Go into a genie then remove the top leg, pivot the hips to face the ground and lift the top/back leg high and squeeze in your thighs.

I wore 6″ for 6 years. Just switched to 7″s and I don’t know how I lived without them. They’re so much better for floorwork.

I think some people use this, but my experience with it hasn’t been great. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Best-Step-Black-Diamond-Plate-2-ft-Square-interlocking-Foam-Mats-4-Pack-BS100-4HDT/202019834#.UtoO7hAo4dU

Any removable floor cover is going to slip around unless you secure it to the ground. I’m just throwing ideas around as I have not actually done this, but 3M command strips? Velcro (fuzzy part on the ground so if you need to remove the mat, you won’t have sharp bits on the ground?)?
