MemberAugust 11, 2013 at 10:40 pm in reply to: August WeFly Challenge: Get Bent (and Wrist Pain)Thanks for the suggestions. I wouldn't say I'm 'new' to bridges because I did them as a kid in gymnastics, but it has been awhile since I've done them. I think it is hand placement because I tried again the other and and straightened my legs and it positioned my arms straighter. I also think I have very tight shoulders so that is something I need to work on too. I am blessed with great leg flexibility though!

Oh! Also the russian layback 🙂

Extended Allegra! So beautiful. Also the rubber ayesha (I think its called?) But I'm just about to invert, so the butterfly (and extended butterfly) are up next on my list.

MemberJuly 24, 2013 at 6:56 pm in reply to: Competition and Performance – at what point?Hi Koidragon! I'm competing for the first time this august! Less than a month away ahhh!! I'm in level 3 at my studio, so I'm still working on spins and climbing, haven't gotten to the inverts yet.
For the first time, our studio has decided to have a competition, and luckily for me, there are 3 categories: Divine Diva (no inverts), Dizzy Diva (spin pole) and Daring Diva (whatever you want to do). So needless to say I'm doing the Divine Diva and I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into! Of course I would love to win, but I'm really just doing it to push myself and for fun! Also maybe so I can overcome my fear of being in the spotlight. If you're just doing it for fun, it really doesn't matter whether or not you feel 'ready' as long as you feel safe. So you really have to decide for yourself what you want to get out of it.

As far as mirrors (there was some thread a week or so ago about cheap mirrors) I went to Target and bought 3 $6 mirrors. They can kind of look like funhouse mirrors, but they're not too bad and they get the job done. They don't come with any hooks or anything so I got some command strips for hanging heavy pictures and frames. I used 4 per mirror. Each pack of 4 was about $4 so in total I spent about $30. Not too bad considering I didn't need to put any holes in the wall and they were up in about 10 minutes!

Thanks so much for your replies. I FINALLY got my pole installed at home so did a quick workout and I feel SO much better. Like, the pain is GONE. I will wait until I build up more strength to work on them again. However, I can do a couple of normal pushups, and I'll continue to work on those. I don't have Veena's lessons yet, but I intend to in September or so when my best friend's wedding isn't eating up my money!

Thanks for your feedback. I started pole in February, and I'm a level 3 in my studio (climbing, no inverts). I'm pretty new. I can feel pain and tightness from the base of my neck and along the top of my shoulder on my back. I feel tenderness along my shoulder blade. My boyfriend gave me a massage last night and said that my muscle on my right side (side I used for rolling) was a lot larger than the left (probably inflammation). That makes me nervous that they would teach shoulder rolls to anyone if it requires certain strength. How do you know when you're strong enough to do them?

I went to a floorwork class tonight, and one of the moves is the one where you're in a shoulder stand and you stretch and hit your heels on the floor… well I just went for it. And let it all out. My first pole fart. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Thanks! Awesome to see 'locals' that are eating paleo! My biggest problem is meal planning, because if I don't have something I can grab right away, I eat what's convenient. I work odd hours so that doesn't help either. I have heard of the Whole30 and I should read it! Maybe I'll check for it at the library. Thanks for the links!
Also, how many meals would you say you ate a day? I've been reading that its ok to do the '3 square meals' when in other instances 6 small meals throughout the day is better.

I was listening to Shakira's 'Whenever, Wherever' the other day and I think that song is pretty comical and sexy in itself! She compares her boobs to mountains so you won't get them confused! Haha

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I really want to start Paleo, but don't know anyone who is doing this or who would be on board with me. I've cut out bread before and saw some progress, but then I just got lazy. My hardest thing will be to cut out cheese and yogurt! And sweetening my coffee in the morning… anyone have an recipes to share?
