I’ve just finished my first ever routine so I feel like I’m in the same boat!
I started off by listening to my song over and over so I knew all the words, beats, highs and low points. Then I thought of combos I wanted to put in and where.
For example, I knew I wanted to end the routine in a janeiro so I worked out a combo to go before that which fit with the words of the song.
Don’t forget to put in floor work and points where you can have a bit of a ‘break’ and catch your breath. My first go at choreographing to this song was terrible… I put in every single hard combo I could do then realized I couldn’t do them all together without being so tired and messy! I then brought it back down and worked at being emotional with floor work and then limiting combos

If you can hold yourself up in a full plank then I would say it has something to do with the flexibility of your arms, shoulders or back.
You could also try doing it with a partner… I learnt this awesome way of doing a bridge by holding onto someone’s ankles and having them help lift you up. I can take a video with my sister and post it on insta if you’d like?

Sitting up from a brass monkey is so much easier than from a CAR (in my opinion) because you have the foot hooked on and it helps to pull you up.
I’m not quite understanding the part about your butt sticking out… Maybe you could post a video of your attempt?

I’m still struggling with this move… My problem is that when I lift my legs and pull them to the side, I don’t lift them up high enough so I don’t get the right points of contact. I do mine from a shoulder mount though so it may be different for you

Thank you polebull, tigress, ddcorales and poledanceromance for your support… I am listening to your words of advice and thank you for your kindness. I know that demanding that is not a good thing and I can assure you I am really considering all aspects of the relationship. Thank you for your lovely words.

He hates me poling michaelargh and is so unsupportive of it so he made me delete it and have only other polers on there and close friends as followers. It’s really got me down 🙁 Sorry everyone for going off on a tangent in this thread.

Getting the full controlled lift takes a while. At first I would swing my leg up to get momentum, not kick. My studio thought it was fine to swing when you are first learning until you build up the strength as the strength will come from inverting and practice. If I had to wait til I could lift to invert I think I would’ve given up from frustration haha!!

God tell me about it. I’ve been poling for 6 months and have gone through like 10 bottles of dry hands which is over $200! I try to buy in bulk like 6 bottles at a time but I guess it’s just a price you have to pay… Still cheaper than smoking I guess!

To add to this… While my boyfriend isn’t really interested my dad always has a go! He says he swings on it every morning and it helps to loosen up his back. I’ve showed him how to do a stag spin, climb, pole ups and the air walk. He loves it haha and is really impressed with my strength.

MemberFebruary 20, 2014 at 2:54 pm in reply to: When did you start learning from static pole to spinning?I used to figure skate competitively so spinny pole is just so natural to me. I used to practice things on static when I first learnt them or was learning a harder move but these days I just start learning it straight away on spin. My studio only has spin poles and they spin insanely fast compared to my xpole at home so being able to do moves on them requires lots of comfort factor with spin mode!
I do want to go to static to learn the reverse grab as I can do it on spin but I think it may build up my strength and technique to do it on static?
