I have another idea (for another challenge):
Dance to your favourite song – when you were 12!
This would be a real challenge for me. First to find those old CDs, and then to actually dance to … well, what was it? This one I guess https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif

Veena has some AWESOME stretches and strengthening videos in her lessons that will help with your areas of concern. I know they are appropriate, as a nurse I worked in OT/PT rehab and she totally nails it with these lessons! A chiropractor helps when your vertebrae are out of alignment and cause impingement on the nerves which in turn causes the muscles to knot and tighten to try to protect the area, which is why you are sore after an adjustment (I also worked for a chiropractor). I would strongly recommend the lessons on here to help you with this!! Good Luck!

I agree with chem! I started with chunky heels/platform shoes because I was used to low heels, then graduated to a stiletto….and because sizes seem to vary so much it’s best to go try them on. Good luck and keep rocking that pole girl!! *HUGZ*

Many studios would not fall under OSHA regulations anyway. However I don’t believe OSHA has anything to do with regulating equipment???? Do they have standards for machines in health clubs, etc? Plus OSHA is about saftey in the work place not for events. I’m not certain I want the government regulating pole dancing)
I agree regarding OSHA, I have worked in facilities that have to be OSHA compliant…they are to say the least OVERKILL…the regulations that are enforced are very costly, which in my opinion would take pole out of reach for the average person because it would cost the studio, venue, etc. so much money to comply and then be passed on to the consumer..US! So I wouldn’t want to see that happen to the Poling industry. That’s just MHO https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

This is just my personal opinion. One when we were raising our kids the first thing we did was not hide things from them…especially things that we believed in and were not ashamed of, we never told them not to "tell" because that implicates something to hide. My thoughts are if you believe there is nothing wrong with what your doing then it shouldn’t be a "secret". If you are doing it for fitness or whatever reason, it IS FITNESS, and a form of gymnastics. So the easiest way in MHO is to simply tell them that’s what you are doing, no one questions gymnastics.
I have a good friend that works with kids, she is a child psychiatrist. I asked her her professional opinion on this topic, she stated that if you try to sugar coat poling to make it easy for others to accept, then you yourself still have some questions and or uncertainty’s about what you are doing which your children will pick up on, and that if you truly believe what you are doing is not hurting anyone and or "illegal", then it doesn’t matter what others think as we all have our own beliefs, perceptions, and opinions no matter what. It is the younger generation that can make changes if we just plant a healthy seed and stay honest with our kids…kids don’t mess up kids, adults do. Just thought I’d share her thoughts with you.

MemberOctober 12, 2010 at 2:35 pm in reply to: Competitions – complaints, good stuff, thoughtsNot all pro comps are held in expensive cities. The Arnold is one of the largest and it is held in Columbus Ohio every March. I can get a decent hotel downtown for under $150 a night or go 10 minutes outside of the city and get one for $80 (even $50’s if you look at Motel 6 and the like). I can easily eat for under $10 a meal and there is plenty of nightlife. Even the Olympia is in Vegas….cheap airfare, cheap accommodations and again PLENTY to do.
LOL well chemgoddess there are alot of us that find that EXPENSIVE, I live where the cost of living is cheap and can’t afford those prices. So to alot of "us" out here that’s spendy. Like everything else it’s what your used to! ha ha I attended a local comp last year and it was $30, to get in…for us that’s high! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

MemberOctober 12, 2010 at 12:58 pm in reply to: Competitions – complaints, good stuff, thoughtsI’m wondering if they’ve taken their que a bit from Bodybuilding. Bodybuilding requirements which has now 4 categories for women, "Bodybuilding", "Fitness", Figure", and "Bikini". The Fitness competitor for example has to be able to do the splits, side and front I believe and tumbles, one handed push-ups etc. Each category has basic specific requirements. The judges are usually people that have competed themselves and or trained competitors.
We find similar criticisms in this area as well, the fans don’t always agree with the judges. As for getting the feedback, it can take up to 6 months to get your score card with comments back. The PRO comps are in large cities, like Las Vegas, New York etc. Hotels, travel and shows are VERY expensive….so having said all of that I think the poling comps are kind of in line with what other professional comps are doing, and are AMAZING to watch what these people have accomplished!!

MemberOctober 7, 2010 at 5:56 pm in reply to: I am so SICK of the negative stereotype surrounding pole!It is going to take some time before changes happen with attitude, and like other things there will always be someone out there no matter what that disapproves. I guess what I’ve learned is that we all have different likes, dislikes, and interests….and that because we are diverse as a people, that will always be the case. SOOO having said that, I choose to accept someone else’s viewpoint/thoughts for they are…opinions/beliefs owned by them, and that I don’t have to agree with them anymore then they have to agree with me. By continuing to be a good person, the strong woman I am….I don’t need to explain/try to convince anyone to "MY" way of seeing things. I just need to continue to be an example and treat them with courtesy…that is what is working for me now. It’s kind of like the old adage..you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar!! I also love what my "Grams" used to say…"Your opinion is of NO CASH value to me!" LOL I hope it gets better for you hun!! HUGZ
