I’m coming back to pole after a 2-year break, so my goal is just to get my strength back. I also want to learn spinning pole for the first time. Good luck to everyone with their goals!

Kulotsalot you’re making me want to come to Nairobi just to take that class! At my studio it’s definitely mostly expats (and I’m from Liberia). A handful of Rwandan friends came to try, but only once – and it’s definitely not the price. Might be the conservative attitudes here too. LolaSlaytor, hopefully we will have overcome all that by the time you get here in 2017! π

This is just amazing. I thought I was a pioneer bringing pole to East Africa, and look – we already have it. Can’t wait to make those connections that will make us a true community!
Kulotsalot, I have a small home studio in Kacyiru, behind the US Embassy. I started in September this year, and there’s a lot of interest. Not experiencing any stigma, thank goodness. I do a nice mixture of serious fitness and sexy dance, so I hope that’ll please everyone π MonikaB, you can email me at aerialdanceafrica@gmail.com

MonikaB!!! A studio in Tanzania? And here I was thinking South Africa was the only African country with pole dancing and pole fitness. I recently learned that there are polers in Egypt too, and I just opened a studio in Kigali. We MUST visit each other – what do you say?

LolaSlaytor, the universe ALWAYS conspires to give us what we want. And all we have to do is ask! π I’ve sent you my husband’s contact details, and he’s ready to talk whenever you are.

Hi LolaSlaytor – you’re in luck! My husband and I live in Rwanda, and he has traveled to Uganda quite a bit for work. Send me your contact details and I will happily put you two in touch. Beware: He knows everything and LOVES to talk π

Wow mgpoledance5059 – your post could have been written by me! Big Introvert: INFJ. I’m far away from any studio most of the year (living overseas) and wasn’t always motivated to train all alone at home. I train with groups only in the summer when on holiday in the US, and yes, I’m often on the outskirts in those classes. I’ve been teaching in my home studio since the end of August – 3 poles, with a 4th that I could put up if necessary. Suits me perfectly π Best thing is now I’m really training myself too! So nice to meet you here at StudioVeena, and I’m really glad you posted about this.

Happy Birthday, Veena!

What an amazing resource! Thank you so much, Veena. If there was a Nobel Prize in Dance Education I would nominate you for your skill, your dedication, and your invaluable contribution to the pole dance community. Γ°ΕΈβΕ

No picture for this month’s update. Just wanted to say I’m still in and working on it. Love warming up by playing basketball with my sons, and using the foam roller is awesome. What a great invention!

LisaKitty, thanks for the link – I love that playlist!

Welcome! If you’re taking classes at a studio, try different instructors every once in a while. When I started, I LOVED my instructor and didn’t know what I would do without her. Then she had to leave, and I LOVED my next instructor too, though she had a totally different style. Everyone will teach you something different. Sometimes you might have trouble getting a move and all it will take is a hint worded in another way. And, of course, Veena is awesome and you get to watch her demonstrate and explain moves as often as you need. Happy Poling! π

Ladies, thanks so much for the condolences and encouragement. Dancing makes me feels happy and strong, and this community is so uplifting. Pole is going to be a major part of my therapy… Love you all!
