Yep, it definitely goes away! I remember leg hangs being so intensely painful, and now I can just hang out in them forever. While you're still a beginner / int there's not really a massive need to schedule in heaps of pole, so don't feel bad at all if you can only schedule in little bits here and there. You also want to make sure you don't train too hard, which can cause injuries. I find sometimes just doing 1/2 hour every night (or every 2nd night) really adds up over the week, as well as doing a class. I obviously would love to do more, but if I really can't fit it in, then it has to be about my priorities (another important aspect of time management!). As well as pull up bars, you could also just do short 'burst' workouts…there's heaps all across pinterest, but basically doing a couple of reps of push ups, planks, crunches. All will help with pole and strength building 🙂

xxhayleyxx, how about also getting a pull up bar for the door frame? I have one and I love it! When I feel like working out and don't have the time, I just do a couple of pull ups and chin ups! It takes less than a couple of minutes, and helps to keep strength up!
The pain that comes with holds will eventually go away, even if you're only poling once a week so don't worry too much with that! Even if you can schedule in only half an hour every two days at home on the pole, that is better than no time at all

can't find you amber sky 🙁 On IG, if you click the button furthest to the right (your profile), your name is in the blue bar at the top of the screen

time management is tricky, but i am one of those people who work better the busier I am!
I'm currently completing a double law degree full time, as well as working part time, I blog, and then on top of that poling and exercising and seeing friends etc etc!
So my tips are…absolutely use a planner. Work out what suits you best, whether that's a diary or a calendar on your phone. i personally prefer using a diary that has a week to a view and then a monthly calendar at the front. That way I can see exactly what I have going on at all times. I also use a monthly planner instead of a calendar at home. So next to my desk I have the current month and the next month displayed, again with everything I have going on and then a weekly planner that I fill out each week underneath it. The weekly planner has times on it, and I use it to be more prescise and break up my days…so for e.g. Wednesdays I write that I have class from 3.30-5.30, and I will leave the house to travel to class at 1,30, so i know that between 1.30-3.30 i can do uni work on the train, and then from 5.30-7.30 i can watch some tv on my ipad on the train ride home (because scheduling down time is also really important!) I can then see that I have the whole morning spare, so will fit in a jog in the morning, and some housework.
I also do a little housework every single day, to keep it from building up and getting unmanageable.
I think the most important thing is to know what you're doing and what you have coming up at all times, especially when you're studying (so you don't miss important assessments / can prepare properly for exams!)

that is an important point adAstra!! I'm hoping that this challenge will give me a goal to work towards. I'll post my starting point photo later this week (tbh I'm slightly embarrassed about it!) I'm really hoping I'll get down to splits level, but if not, I know I'll be a lot closer than I am now and that's still a really exciting thought!!!

I can barely sit in a straddle! So I totally think I’m very far off that one.im aiming for side splits.
Will take photos tonight! I’m very far away…as in cant even get low enough to have my hands flat on the ground to help me balance :'( -
Rylonn, I completely agree…I think this is why i don’t have my splits yet, I’m too impatient!!
How about every two weeks we do update photos. This can help us encourage eachother, and also provide some accountability!

I use dry hands on my hands, and shaving cream on my legs to grip with both the brass poles at the studio and my chrome pole at home 🙂

awesome platinumani ! i'm so jealous!! i can't even go down far enough that i can support my weight / balance with my hands 🙁
sooo i'm thinking of buying some yoga blocks to help me balance. i honestly don't stay in my "splits" for very long when stretching bc it's so damn awkward trying to balance

robinp, that is seriously such an inspiring post !
i was the same, in that i wanted to try pole for YEARS but kept putting it off until I "earned" it (…no idea what that meant either!?) one day i was at a friend's wedding, and i just mentioned to my partner "i really always wanted to do pole", and I'm so lucky because his response was "well, why don't you?" so i signed up the very next day. almost 3 years later, and i cannot believe i didn't do it earlier.
I think as women we're always putting other people first, and always doing things to please others but you know what? you only get one life, and people come and go. you have to live with you for the rest of your life. there is no point living with regrets. if you want to do something, do it. if it works for you FANTASTIC! If not, then…you have a funny story to tell 😉
and even if it is just a "fad", who cares? you can always re sell a pole! i think it's important in relationships to each have your own hobby / interests. it's fantastic if some of them overlap, but if poling is your hobby he should respect that and support you in it. my boy is really into fish. I don't completely "get" it, but i fully support him in his fish-keeping endeavours and get excited for him when he buys a new one (just like when he gets excited when i get a new move down!) haha… okay sorry this turned into such an essay!

So now it’s not slipping at all hooray!!! It’s just very creaky….hmmmmm haha
-
oh good idea!! so basically the challenge is to do the splits by christmas…and then post a photo of you doing your splits in front of the christmas tree!
of course if you don't have a christmas tree you can still take part! maybe we could be creative…splits with a santa hat / outfit on in front of the pole??
and we can come onto this thread to discuss our progress and get feedback and advice 🙂

Should we start a new thread? christmas tree splits 2013?? i am DESPERATE to get my splits…so i am definitely using this as a motivation!
ellieRox…i have not even considered my middle splits…i can barely even sit in a straddle with my back straight. i think that one's a hamstring issue ,which i'm REALLY hoping stretching for front splits will help with 🙁
-
i thought it was a ceiling issue 🙁 i have a magnetic spirit level, and the pole is definitely straight… i'm guessing like the x pole tech said before though, that doesn't matter if the dome isn't sitting straight. i'm pretty sure it is but i can't be certain without climbing up and checking? so hard when i don't have a ladder and my ceilings are over 3 m tall 🙁
i guess i'll just keep trying to adjust it. so frustrating!!!!!
Does anyone know what the creaking could mean?
