@Roxy-Pink You have totally described me and what I’ve been going through the past few years. I also feel like I’ve lost me for awhile and couldn’t find a way back.

    Good to see you back.

Im really curious what its made out of.

The other day I was out shopping for a lacrosse stick for my son. In Mens lacrosse you buy the head and stick separately. Any way, I was checking out the sticks and some were made with this grip stuff. I thought it was amazing. It gripped nicely in my hands. I thought the material they used for the grip would be awesome as a cover for a pole. *creative wheels are turning*

  • Fiya Starter makes a very FUN class. She really breaks down her moves for those who don’t have dance experience. I took her free workshop at PoleCon 2012. I had so much fun in that class. Didn’t care if I made a fool of myself.

Amber Ray was also a fun workshop. I got a good warm up before we started. And did a fun doubles routine.

I think it really depends on what your looking for. There are some people id pay for a private over a workshop. Trust me there are some id just feel intimidated to be in their presence. Id love to take a Karol, Lou Landers, Cleo workshops. Id take a private with Aerial Amy, Tracee Kafer, Steven Retchless any day of the week.

When I did the first DC, we were all different shapes and sizes. Lots of the competitors were first time competitors and just love Roz’s spirit to create a positive competition. It was a great competition, and there wasn’t drama. Roz’s focus was on FUN and enjoying the experience. To me it was more of a focus of an entertainment value rather than how many hardcore moves can you bust out flawlessly in 3min.

As a long time competitor, you have to have a mentality walking into it. Ive gotten much better about it over the years. I used to take it VERY hard. My first competition, I missed making it to the finals by ONE point. Last year when I did Atlantic, I came in last. And I knew I was going to be ok with that.

A few years ago, one lady from FL was putting on an all plus size competition but due to so many elements, it never happened. As a former event organizer myself, I know how much time is taken away from the rest of your life to put together a one night show.

Personally, I wouldn’t be offended if the organizer was not plus sized. I feel that if you are putting this event with the right intentions and have a love of the sport, than the number on your pants shouldn’t bother me.

For some women, they would feel comfortable having a level just for plus sized. Some feel like they can’t compete w/a woman who is a size 2 and might shy away from ever competing . I felt like that on multiple occasions when I competed. I even started to feel like I wasn’t being scored correctly b/c I was plus sized.

I usually hate filming myself.  Mostly just hearing myself talk is odd.  But after a stint in radio ive gotten comfortable with it. But when I take my footage and edit – I see it as a project and dont focus on what I look like.  Then I try to focus on the overall look of the video but I also learn what facial expressions, arm motions etc work best.

Look at Tinu's competition that runs in the fall.  Nicki Shaw was asked to stepped down or change careers if she wanted to compete.  How are you going to tell someone that they have to give up their profession for their hobby?  USPDF states you can being a former stripper and compete – they are one of the top leading competitions and they allow it.

We all know being a former stripper has nothing to do with getting an edge over amateur pole dancers.  Its not like your gonna strip down naked mid performance!

I say from past experience of running into situations semi-like this – one door is going to close and the next one opens right up.

There are a lot of us Curvy pole dancers.  Roz Mays is a one, I love her to peices.  She was Luenells body double in Thats My Boy.  Theres Loveracing25 on YT.  Also Lori Myers as well, I dont think shes got any videos but shes a big advocate of loving yourself regardless of size.  Then theres me, Ive been on YT for some years now and have made it to the national spotlight with tv appearances on Inside Edition, TruTV and Americas Got Talent.

So we are out there and were proud of it.

My mom is a USPS carrier, ive heard the whole losing Saturday hours for at least 15+ years, they are finally doing it.  I have to say they keep digging deeper in the hole from all the benefits they offer their employees.  My mom is planning on moving to MT in a few months, shes not stressed about getting a job right away.  Only because shes got over 3 mos of personal leave stocked away!  They dont do much of 'use it or lose it' around there.  My moms route has been cut multiple times which has resulted in a pay cut to get new carriers in.  But with them cutting Sat hours, they are saving a ton of money.  The USPS are so far in the hole, that they had to borrow from against the Fed. Reserve to pay some carriers their salaries.

Since 9/11 the blue boxes have been getting cut, especially after the Anthrax threats years ago.  The clothing line is mostly for the carriers – depending on your route depends if you are required to wear a uniform.  My mom is not but has plenty of USPS gear in her house!

February 7, 2013 at 8:57 am in reply to: anybody been through a career change?

Let me give some background on my family.  My parents basically settled in on jobs that put food on the table – not what they wanted to do.  I was brought up with the belief that you chose one career path and you worked at one company your whole life.  You didnt change jobs, you just worked – regardless if you were happy or not.  Paying the bills was much more important than being happy.

My dream was to work in Television/Movies.  I had known since Sophmore year of HS I was going to go to Broadcasting school.  I enrolled at Broadcasting Insitiute of Maryland and was determined to be on the track of greatness.  I wanted to be a producer and work behind the scenes.  I felt like thats where I belonged.  I have an obession of learning what goes on behind the scenes of TV.  I get really giddy when I have to get mic'd up for audio and learning what type of shot they want to use for the bit etc.  I graduated on time, and got my first job in the business.  While it was a 4night/wk part time gig, I loved the job.  I still had to work during the day to make ends meet.  I also worked retail for a very long time.  I swtiched stores from time to time when I needed a change (or more money).  At one point before school was over,  had 3 jobs just to pay the bills.  I left broadcasting when my then finance now husband told me in order to afford any kind of wedding, I had to get a better paying job.  I was making just enough to pay the bills and be happy.  For me it worked out well since I also was a new mom, and worked at night to avoid paying for daycare.  So I buckled down, left TV and got a job as a receptionist at a car dealership.  I left TV for a few reason, mostly b/c I had a family to pay for and help raise.  Plus with all the hours a producer puts in, I didnt think id be able to have a life outside of work.  At one point, I moved from job to job so often my parents werent happy with me.  They just wanted me to work somewhere and pay my bills. Since they had that, they wanted me to follow in the footsteps.  I still want to persue my dreams, I want to teach my kids that it doesnt matter how long the journey takes – what matters is that you finished it.

7 years later, I am still at that car dealership.  I had been promoted a few times to the accounting office.  Now I am becoming the office manager for our second store.  Prior to that I was doing warranty processing for both our stores and I was MISERABLE!!  I hated coming to work.  I was so mentally drained out, that I didnt want to do ANYTHING but sit on my couch and veg out. I didnt want to dance, I didnt want to go out. I just wanted to play The Sims for 4 hours.  Which resulted into 20lb weight gain and compeletly unmotivated.  I even started applying for other jobs to get a break from it all.  Since im moving to a new desk, im probably going to have the same amount of stress going on.  Im happy for the new change of pace, but I really want to be able to devote time for me and a creative outlet for me.  Id still love to teach one day and one day that opportunity is going to come my way.  Id even like to freelance my video editing skills to pole dancers for promo videos. But my husband would hate that I gave up a 40hr job with benefits to make some cash here and there.  Mostly b/c he did the same thing.  He gave up his dream career as a PT to become a plummer b/c it put food on the table and we had a family to take care of.  Everyday he is miserable, he hates his job but keeps on trucking.  But hes glad he switched careers b/c there are PT's out of work in the area since people are cutting back on luxuries.  I dont want to be like that, I want to be excited to get to work everyday.  My broadcasting teacher told us you want to be in a job that you love so much that for some reason you couldnt get paid to do it – youd still do it anyway.  Thats the approach I take career choices.  One day I am going to be able to devote time to passionate hobbies, I just gotta do all the crappy adult like work to do what I want to do.

You can also use garageband and edit the song before you use it in itunes.  You can save it to go to itunes so when you add music it will be the correct one you wanted.

iMovie is great!  So many beginners started in iMovie, its much easier to use than Windows Movie Maker.

I saw some off of kwik-sew.  Im pretty sure the swimsuit patterns should be out by now since I used a swimsuit pattern to create my cover up for more of my recent costumes.  I am looking for something similar to Honey Ryders bathing suit from Dr. No.  Im going to do a different color since it would look better against my skin color.

I have to say I am really excited for this comp.  I love that there is different catagories, levels and ages.  Its really a comp where ANYONE could compete.  I think alot of the only way to compete is try audition for USPDF and thats a tough crowd to get into.
