I have to say I really consider myself lucky being able to have a job where they are very accepting of pole and what I do.  They have never seen it as a 'stripping' side gig.  Heck, my boss is crazy in love with Steven Retchless and encouraged me to take one of his classes in NY!

Most of my coworkers are on my FB and while ive dialed down the pole posts (I had one person block me from their feed b/c I post too many pole things – hey its the only thing ive got going on people!), they are still cool with it.  The best is when newly hired people find out who I am.  One our new people found my AGT audition and was shocked it was me!

While im not an instructor, I can give you a story about loyality.  I was very loyal to my studio for YEARS!  I promoted them constantly and was always taking class.  The owner knew who I was as well.  Then, the top instructor left to open her own studio 30min away in a different city.  I also supported that instructor in her new business venture as well and occasionally took class there too.  Thats when I got burned from my 'home' studio.  There was always a tift between the owner and I becuase I supported other studios and helped people find a studio close to their home.  Then I became more and more reconizable (we all know why) and the owner and I were both at a public even in which she completely ignored me – never bothered to say Hi.  That was the final burn, I wont go back there – I refuse to!  I cant be around that nor promote someone who is like that.

I think as an instructor, you should go out and try new classes/studios.  Being an instructor is like being a teacher – you never stop learning!  Theres always new things to learn, new tip and tricks to teach your clients.  Plus how often do you get a chance to pole for yourself???  As an owner, I would encourage it!  I would want the best instructors and if that means they get time to themseleves to be better pole dancer to share with clients, then go for it!

Reading ME tips, gave me lots of flashbacks of organizing my Battle.  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Lots of hard work but totally worth it in the end.  I have been in the audience watching the performances and thinking that alot of these people its thier first time peforming ever!  Let alone pole dancing!  To see those faces and say they had such a great time and want to come back next year just makes all the blood, sweat, tears totally worth it.

Yes, your gonna have studios who will not participate (or ones with mulitple locations where one location wants to but the owner of the business says no).  Thats ok,  thats thier business to make that choice, but some of them will show up and support you (gotta love this pole community).

Promote, promote, promote!  FB page, website, word on the street.  I had copies of my flyers that were posted everywhere.  I sent some to studios to post, my sponsors to put on thier websites, friends passed them out.  I even posted one at my local Starbucks but someone took it down.

One thing I like to have in the dressing room is saftey pins and bobby pins.  You never know who is going to need them and being the performer myself, its good to know that someone is thinking about you.

you can also contact some the grip aid companies and see if they will send you samples, thats also a great thing to keep in the dressing room too!

YAY Another MD'er.  Welcome to SV.

Its amazing how pole becomes therapy for us huh?  I get pretty bad anxiety and its so bad I just dont want to leave my house days on end.  Pole/working out is what helps me break out of my rut.  One day id love to kick the anxiety in its face and go back to who I used to be, but its gonna take some time.

shake things up!  Try a different class or a different studio.  Or even try a different form of dance!  For me that helps me break out of my rut and get inspired again.

I do some basic strength training at home esp if I cant get to a pole class or head to the gym.  My two that I do alot are push ups and planks.  They are great overall exercises!  I do variations of the push up to work all the arm muscles and ill add some other crunches in the mix well.

My daughter has to do conditioning for cheerleading and I do them with her.  She has to do on the days shes not at practice – 100 jumping jacks, 25 crunches, 50 push up, 25 lunges and a particular cheer that requires kicks and arm motions.  It gets the job done!

When I did the Battle, I chose two major bar venues that were perfect.  I loved our venue last year in DC.  I would talk to others who put on events and see what venues are pole-friendly.

From my experience working with bars.  They talk to you ahead of time of what kind of event you are seeking out, thats when you can bring up the age as well. If your doing a place that is 18+ then your event has to be 18+.

Good luck planning your showcase, cant wait to hear its success!

PDI got a HUGE overhaul this year.  I remember them when they were just an online only.  They even had lots of coverage of the very first PoleCon.  In comparison to the first version of the mag, the new one looks amazing!  I think they are more toward having contribitors than a whole writing staff on board. I believe PDI is bimonthly so the $10 price tag comes out to $5/month.  I know Cosmo is about that price as well.  I

With our sport getting bigger and more reconized, we will see publications on the rise.  Keep in mind that we are still infants in the sporting world and were just trying to figure it out.

Eat smaller meals too.  I usually eat some greek yogurt about 6a then a banana around 8a then another morning snack around 10a to hold me over until lunch time.  I try to have a snack ready for me as soon as I start my drive home, if not I end up pigging out as soon as I walk through the door.

Always carry a water bottle.  I have a Starbucks reusable cup at my desk that I do my best to make sure its filled up twice ina work day.  Its a 24oz cup so by the time I leave work I already have 48oz of water in my system.

If you have a Trader Joes in your area, shop there!  First off its an awesome store and I always have a great experience while im there.  But they have lots of great snacks at a great price!  They have the Luna bars for 99 cents each and 19 cent bananas!  Im always getting snacks for me and the kids when its my turn to do the grocery shopping.

My big habit is a im a late night muncher.  I wake up randomly in the middle of the night, im not up for long, but long enough to eat something.  Im normally not hungry its just a habit of mine so I dont have to share food with my kids! LOL

  • Yes, the girl in the promo is Justice Hailey!  I have it recorded on my DVR but I havent watched it yet.  Im worried if I do watch it, its just gonna get me fired up about the whole ordeal.

People just have to get a grip!  My kids twirl around any pole they have seen.  They find it funny, its not like they are booty popping or doing this in thier underwear.
