what’s a reverse attitude? do you guys find wikipole or youtube are best for finding out what moves are? as we all have different names for things i get soooooo confused! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif
lack of success on tuesday night – back to studio for more practice tonight! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
that chair variation sounds good, difficult, but good! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

i know what you mean about the fear!!! i’m not a spinner at all – so when i have to do a spin combo i panic!! i’ll probably use more energy doing it than the handspring! Heading studio tonight so should get a chance to get some bruises!

empy that was a fab vid link – it really shows the move. when i’m doing the TG i swing my leg forward to get momentum so i’ll practice reducing that before i try combining anything… i see many bruises ahead!!
thanks ladies!

Had both loads of giggles and loads of outraged moments while redaing a selection of those posts. Some people have already voiced my opinions on the matter but can’t help venting! The way some of those women tallked gave me the impression that it’s ok to have sex with the lights off then pretend it didn’t happen but you aren’t allowed to enjoy the act! They were condemning women for feeling sexy and being active participants in the sexual side to their lives. Surely women’s liberation offered women the chance to make their own choices and act on them without an old-fashioned matriarchy there to shoot them down??
what worries me the most is that a lot of their children will be brought up closed minded. As far as i’m concerned any form of blind intolerance, whatever the subject, can only cause harm. opinions will continue to polarise into ‘them’ and ‘us’ mentalities which will cause hurt and distress to people – like that original poster (whose husband should grow a pair and be proud of his wife!)
I’m a school teacher – i’d love to teach the pupils pole! my niece and nephew love climbing and spins and my dance teacher’s daughter is amazing. Another woman, an active charity campaigner with children, actively encourages her boys to pole. Pole dancing comes in many forms, like literature and film. Just because we may find some elements of it ‘wrong’ or ‘distasteful’ or ‘tacky’ doesn’t mean we should castigate or ban the whole institution or the people involved in it.
rant over. still fuming though. where are my thigh highs? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I have super sweaty hands and haven’t found anything that works… yet!
my x-pole and i have a love-hate relationship; i love it, it hates me. basically i have to wear my thigh highs and plaster my upper thighs and elbows with Gorilla Grip Gold (think it’s a golfers thing), otherwise i fall straight off. lots of alcohol and chalk is kept on hand to clean my hands and the pole (and to take a swig of when i inevitably fall off and hurt myself https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif )
brass poles are definitely easier to grip on – we have them in the studio i go to. on the brass pole i just use chalk to help me out towards the end of the 90min class or if i’m working on routines. For body grip i use Gorilla Grip Gold on my knees and upper thighs (NOT doing death lays without the stuff!) but it does leave a mess on the pole and when it connects with my sweaty hands it’s not good!!!!
i have noticed that the more i pole the more confident i am at working with sweaty hands and with routines i try to use a variety of grips so that i’m not just relying on my hands to get me through. i also avoid complex spins after the first minute- they aren’t happening for me. Saying that though, i’ve never completed a routine on an x-pole and now i think i’ve got a mental block with it. oh well!!!
one bonus of sweaty hands??? major quick reflexes cos you’re so used to hitting the ground!!!
Happy poling!

After some thought i’ve realised that i have done elbow grip – we call it something different – inverted v! it is much easier than aisha spilt grip lol!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif still working on getting good balance with split grip tho! thanks for advice! xo

Thank you girlies!!
You all helped me feel motivated for a fab class last nite – still hurting and worried that I may still be sore tomorrow at my main class!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif oh well!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

i can do moves but i have no creativity to put them into sequences!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
so…. how did you do that???
-
I’m new too!!!
dancing is fab way of getting in shape and staying in shape! It’s a great challenge and the sense of fulfilment is amazing! Good luck!!
-
Thank you!
So far so good – the advice is amazing, and the vids and links to other places – learning so much!! Have to say, i never realised pole had become such a massive hit! When i started it really raised eyebrows, yet now it’s totally normal, thankfully!! At least I’m not the oddball anymore https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Totally agree girl! dancing becomes your life once you start the pole! I have to try hard to restrain myself from using hair flicks all the time! def not a good thing in work https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I’m still trying to steady myself with the split-grip Ayesha, but i find easiest way in is normal butterfly. With extended butterfly your hips and pelvis are really far away from the pole and its difficult to swing your extended leg back to pole without overbalancing, unless you have abs of steel (i don’t https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif ) With ordinary, i find it’s a bit more manageable!
