Change of plans. My crappy netbook cam won’t pick up any jerk or fast movements so industrial electronica was a no go. However, I found another great song to do my challenge to.

    Here’s the video: http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/3677

    Poledanceromance,

I think he reactions here are from misinterpretation of your comments. I didn’t think you wanted to be like ONE person, or to give up if you can’t be #1. Reading your comments, I just see a little bit of despair from someone who might have some perfectionistic ( I so totally made that word up) tendencies. I understand that you don’t actually want to be just like your idols, you just used them as reference and other member took it literally. What you probably mean is, you want to be as good as your ideal self. I go through the same feelings too.

I’m in the pole rut (plateau) right now, up until this point everything has been easy to moderately challenging for me and I’ve been progressing quite well. But now, I"m at a stand still. I feel as though I’ve maxed out my strength, flexibility and grace all at the same time. I can’t get the allegra for more than 2-3 seconds and i leaves a painful rib that stays for weeks, even though it comes to easy to others. I’m 3" from the floor with the side splits (the one with legs on either side) and haven;t moved for a while. My movements still look amateur and sloppy even though I practice almost everyday. My left foot point inwards when I point my toes and it drive me nuts and throws off my line unless I make a very conscious effort to point "out". I can only do a elbow stand sans pole half the time, the other half I flip over and end in a crumpled pile. I try so hard, but I feel as though I’ll never be as good as I want myself to be. I’m pretty hard on myself. I doesn’t mean I’m not doing it to have fun. I’m having LOTS of fun. I just like to set my goals high and achieve them. I have a feeling you are the same way.

This thread prompted me to go watch your videos. You are really good. And honestly if you lied and said you took dance as a kid, I will believe you. You might not have a dance background, but you have 22 years of experience moving your body, and it shows.

I’m plagued this problem as well and I feel it has gotten worse with pole. This is what I’ve been doing and it has help recover some of my range of motion.

Take a broom handle (just the handle if is it removable), hold is in front of your body with your arms apart close to each end. Then keeping your arm straight, lift your arms simultaneously up over your head and then down around to your bum. IF you can’t, move your arms further apart. Be sure to keep the handle centered because it will tend to shift over to the side with less flexibility. Go slowly. I do this after poling 10 times, shake it out, then do another 10. Over time, you can bring your arms closer together.

    I hope this helps.

I think of going backwards to get into the the rockstar. I start out spinning forward, but once I tilt my hips I end leading the spin with my back. Hope that helps.

I’m considering dancing to industrial electonica, i like the type of music but it’s just not suited for pole.

I think the iguana mount is a very common one to fall on. I fell pretty hard on this one too. I thought I had it then my hands just slipped and I came right down on my head. Luckily, I had thin foam mats down, the kind you put down for kids to play on. It cushioned my head but I still hurt my neck. I couldn’t look left for almost 2 weeks. And silly me, I didn’t go to the doctor because I was too embarrassed to explain that I fell while pole dancing.

I hope you feel better and nothing was too badly hurt. Be careful!

While on this topic, I want to share a very strange (please dont; laugh) fear of mine. I an TERRIFIED of hurting myself while on the pole very badly and being unable to move or call for help, and then having people find me the next day or two crumpled next to my pole in my bra and undies. I even get nightmares about it. It’s not just the getting hurt part. It’s also being found half naked or indecently dressed. What will people think? I can hear the nurses gossip already, " hey, did you hear about the girl who came in with trauma to her head? She fell with POLE DANCING! IN HER UNDERWEAR!!!Talk about slutty."

I use to spin a lot in this move too and like kasanya, it was the position of my top arm causing the spin. Take a look at how the top arm look in relations to the rest of your body when you stop spinning/stabilize and place your hand like that to start. I might take a few tries but at the end, you’ll have mastered two moves. Wrist sit and spinning wrist sit!

Maybe find a way to go from an invert to a climb move so you can just get off the pole from that. You can always go from gemini to side climb then dismount. Or maybe from butterfly to apprentice then dismount. Or go from striaght edge to brass monkey then hook one foot and lift to sit. A less graceful way is to dismount from straight edge doing a reverse handspring (I don’t know the proper name.

    Hope this helps.

Usually, I have a bit of trouble with the two big pieces, but this time my 45mm adapter is stuck to my bottom pole piece. As they are different diameter, it’s been very difficult lying them flat and bracing them for impact. Theya re also stuck in such a way that the two rods form only a small angle. Any tips for getting them apart that is different than for the other pieces? It’s not a big deal as long as I don’t need to add extensions, but this means I can;t change rooms.

Aww crap, there goes my plan! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

velvetvixen, that sounds very familiar. I’m the girl with a million hobbies. I cosplay and love to sew, went to school for fashion. I used to raise frogs …then it was rats… now it’s chinchillas. I love to read. I bake. I play video games and watch manga. I pole. I hoop. But I never have enough time (or space) to do everything I want and some hobbies get put on the back burner. Sigh. Thanks for the link!

Maybe it’s the changing Canadian weather or something in the air, but I’ve been having a bit of pole apathy too. Last weekend, I had sunday ALL TO MYSELF and I didn’t get on the pole.*GASP* Instead I updated all my sewing patterns, then cleaned all my animal cages, then watched a bunch of youtube…anything but pole. Yesterday, I tried to pole but I gave up after the pole not warming up properly. I actually came onto SV to ask if anyone had ideas to spice up my pole practices, glad to see a thread already started.

This lack of interest after almost 1.5 years of my tempestuous love affair with pole is a little frightening. Just 2 months ago, it was torture to miss even one day of pole and now I rather clean chinchilla poop.

Would this be safer to learn from a shoulder DISmount but dismounting just enough to tuck your legs and then reversing directions and flipping over? I’m not sure though I’ll have to try this move tonight.

I find the hooked knee one doesn’t allow as much spin around the pole when the other leg swings back so I use it when I need to be stationary. The hooked knee also lets me move the pole to the front of my body without losing grip.

When I need the rotation, such as during Scorpio switches, I use the straight leg. The straight legs looks much prettier too.
