Has anyone here used that lotion and what’s your thoughts on it? I love my ITAC but I find it hard ot apply thinly and evenly onto the legs, a lotion might spread better.

Another shorty here, 4’10". Yogini is painful and I have to rely on mostly my arm pressing the pole against my ribs. I also have a alot of trouble getting ym torso to wrap aroudn the pole for the ballerina and the allegra. I can do it, and it look decent, but it’s difficult. I have to mentally lengthen the torso and wrap it aroudn carefully or else it just don’t reach. I don’t think it’s a case of lack of flexibilty, I see a lot of people with less flexibilty than I do these moves. I’m pretty sure it’s the short torso.

SUCCESS!!! I electric blanket did wonders! I listened to the advice here adn avoided clamps, instead I used 1/2" elastic (left over form a sewing project) to secure it around the pole. I left it on for 30 mins and warmed up whiel I waited. The pole was just about my body temperature after a warm up.
I still needed to use some itac, but I was able to pole without wanting to cry frustration.
This was a triumph! (yes, it’s a portal reference)

I do some cardio before going on the pole and it does help, but not too much. I have a TG pole and I find that when my body is warm and the pole is cold, tiny invisible droplets of condensation tends to form making it very slippery. I think Veena mentioned it happening with her TG as well. I haven’t had it happen all summer, and forget about it til now. This mean it must me dry heat…but not too dry because I have dry skin. I hate winter poling.
Currently I have my electric blanket wrapped around the pole and tied with elastic, goign to give it an hr to warm up and I’ll report back on how it works.

I haven’t had much luck with a hair dryer, it just doesn’t warm up the pole, the air in my pole room is too cold any heat just gets sucked up by the surrounding air. The pole is in the coldest room in the house. I already have a heater on in that room whenever I’m in it.
-
I was thinking of holding the electric blanket on with over sized claw clips. Haven’t tried it yet, but it seems to work in my brain…but then again a lot of impossible pole moves work inside my brain, so I won’t bank on it.

I have dry skin.
In cooler temperatures, my hands prefer brass but my legs/body prefer TG.
Can’t dance on stainless in cool to warm temps. In hot temperatures, I can dance on anything including stainless.

I use the foam play mat for kids as well for my daily dancing. It also prevents the floor aroudn the pole from wearing down.

I was wondering, is it possible to do 1 handed spins on the spinny? I can invert, I can climb, but I cna;t do one handed spins. It’s as if I need to be spinning in relation to the pole to get a good grip. When the pole spins with me, I can’t hold on with one hand.

It’s not so much flexibility you needs to work on but strength through your range of motion. When you are in your splits you are stretching passively, the floor is goign the work by pushing your legs apart. In a high kick, you need to pull your own leg into position with your own strength. Also, when you kick to the front, it’s not just your legs doing the kicking, you need to engage your core, pretend you are trying to pull your belly button to your back. Strengthening your quads and your core will help you get a good high kick if your are already flexible on the ground.

The period came today, complete with some of the worse cramping I’ve felt for years. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif So I think I’ve ruled out pregnancy.
Prncsopowr, I’m really hoping it’s just a seasonal thing. I have an existing appointment in the newyear wtih my doctor so I’m goign to ask him about my thyroid as well and check my blood sugar levels.

Oops, sorry, I don’t mean I have problem with a flat jade. I meant that a flat split doesn’t mean a flat jade as a comparison that touching my toe to my head on the floor doesn’t translate to touching my toes to my head in the fang.
I’ll try the fang from TG again tonight and see if it’s a shoulder flexibilty thing. Thanks.
And to clarify, BOTH moves are called the fang?

Is that 3rd move you are talking about just a very arched lunchbox?
I’ve been doing a lot of cobras and back bends. Being in the air for hte move, there is nothing to push against so there must be strength and control through the whole range of movement. Kinda like how being abou tto get a flat splits ont eh ground doesn’t mean a flat jade. To build ab strength, I get into a bridge from the ground and then lift myself up to standing…I can’t drop to the bridge from standing yet, it’s a mental block thing, arching backwards is scary.
As for the fang with legs on either side, I can’t seem to get into it with a TG grip. My hands are tiny and I find TG grip more secure as my hands wont; pop off the pole, but for this move, I can only do it with split grip. Are you sure it can be done with TG? My arm feels like it’s in my way.

I’m at work right now so I can’t get youtube to work properly so Ican’t provide videos. But I know Karol does both very beautifully.

Thanks for hte reply Mindy. Pregnancy has crossed my mind several times. I’m on the pill, but I heard that getting my period on the pill doesn’t mean I’m not pregnant. I’m not sure how true that is.
I never thought of my thyroid. Can thyroid problems start in my late 20s?
Another cause I’ve thought of is that my pill no longer is hte right dosage of hormones for me. I’ve felt this before when I was on depo, gained 20 lbs in two semesters back in university.
Either way, I need to make an appointment with my doctor. He’s so hard to get a hold of, unless you have a high fever and are really really sick, the wait is up to 2 months. I’ve been going to walk-ins for most sickness. I don;t think a walk in can help me with this though.

Great work for such a short time. I agree with everything already mentioned. I think your main goal should be to smooth out your moves. Lift into things instead of jumping. Make sure your toes are pointed and your legs are straight. AND also, you seem to cut short your moves. Maybe you are getting excited about the next one, but be sure to finish one before going on to the next. You worked hard for those moves, so show them off from start to finish.
Good luck!

I don’t have basic insert superstition but I do have SM superstition. I HAVE to bend my right knee before I invert. I think I used to use the momentum a bit, but now I can lift into it, but I still have to lift into it with one leg bent. I notice some other girls do this as well.
I think with any move, once a you train your body and mind to do it one way, it’s hard to change, It’s mostly in the head I think.

The studio I use to belong to taught ONLY split grip everything. No forearm or elbow to ease into it and practice balancing. I had so much elbow and forearm pain while I was there. I ended up learning my forearm and elbow grip after my split grip after finding studio veena. Practicing my straight edge and aysha with my elbow grip feels so much better for my body. I slowly relearned the split and TG and this time, no more pains!
Unfortunately my ulnar nerve is already damaged from sliding down on my lower arm in the split grip, sometimes, my pinky and ring fingers still go numb. I wish I found SV and learned abotu proper progression first.

MemberNovember 12, 2010 at 2:11 am in reply to: Square hips when stretching for the splits?Wanted to add that one way I was taught to make sure your hisp are squared is to do the splits with your back knees bent and put your lower leg up against the wall.

MemberNovember 12, 2010 at 2:03 am in reply to: Square hips when stretching for the splits? No, opening/tilting your hips will NOT damage you at all. It will give you less of a stretch. When I did gymnastics, our coach had us tilt out hips to get a straighter line but practice with a hips squared for better stretch. Square hips can not achieve a single straight line because the hip holds the legs sided by side, the splits will be flat, but the legs will not be a single long line.

I got my first inverted crux from a SM as well. With the basic invert I had problems when bringing my body to the front because I felt as though my leg position is moving ever so slightly. This is how I corrected it. I SM, hang into inverted crux, THEN move my body to the side into a basic invert position, stay there for a while and then tried to move my body back in front. Once you get the motion of moving your body from the front to the side, movign it the opposite way seem s a lot easier.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.
