You're very welcome, Lyme Lyte! 🙂 Now that I've seen your profile, I'm even more convinced you're in the role model category. I read the "I spend a lot of time traveling" as "I spend a lot of time time traveling" and the realization that you don't time travel is the only detraction. =P

Kyrelle, yeah, I pretty much am going to settle for the fact that it will be a reasonable massage if it does nothing else. =P I've never had a professional one so my standards are low. I have The Stick for my lower legs which did a lot and I can only imagine what a foam roller would do for me.

I agree that aerial inverts on a short pole will be rough. 🙂

I don't know which other tricks or moves you want to do, Cammy, but sometimes I do just do a invert from a squat, if that makes sense, to have more room up top. Haha it's not pretty, but it works for me!

Yeah…I haven't really perfected that Superman yet. Sometimes I get stuck in a spot where I can hold it and it hurts no more than the actual superman, but my legs are not actually fully together. Awkward…(especially when the cat shows up below the pole and you're afraid of landing on him!)

Oh and my Jade looks so sad. I almost got floor splits but there's a long way to go…

I'm a cyclically overweight person. In college when I sparred I was a lightweight once and a heavyweight once. =P One thing that I had to remind myself of when I was trying to lose weight was that % body fat matters too, besides those charts that BMI stuff. If you've been poling for a while, you probably have a reasonable amount of muscle. 🙂 My bet is that to get to a "normal" weight, you'll have to lose some muscle with that too. Somewhere down the line or now I'd suggest getting a reading and calculating how much weight you could/should realistically lose by finding out how many pounds of you are fat. (Hmm, that was phrased weird.) Anyway, you might be surprised!

I'm a short asian girl who always felt like a gummy bear compared to the others I knew. But I know now (without deluding myself too much, I think =P) that I can never be 120lbs without sacrificing some muscle, or choosing to have below normal body fat.

And I agree with everyone else. All that matters is how healthy you feel! I lost weight recently in all the wrong ways and I wouldn't mind gaining some in exchange for feeling better about myself. 🙂

Right now the Caterpillar is my nemesis. Well, for the past month it feels like. No other move has caused me so much trouble with no progress. I swear I have strong hamstrings!

I haven't been to a class in a while (and never made it consistently) but I wonder if I've seen some of you sometimes!

oh and when I was describing my grip, I didn't mean for it to sound so rudimentary! I just mean that these thoughts actively go on in my mind, very slowly, like a pre-flight checklist. =P I suppose I should just be able to go for it and do it, but I stick with what works for now…

I second the grip suggestions…at first I was too focused on the ending position and didn't understand how it even worked. But after being frustrated I broke it down and so now when I do the move I put the inner lower hand around my eye level, the other one closely above, and focus on keeping my arms flexed as long as possible.

It'll click eventually!  Until then, a billion controlled knee tucks. 🙂

Depending on where you are in Rockville, you might even be able to get to DC easily and try out a Pole Pressure class. It'd be a commute, for sure, but I could see it being fun to try out a class in a different studio every once in a while. They have special masters classes with a good frequency I think.

Jessalynn Medairy is the pro there. Since I do martial arts I wanted to say that she's the Master of the school, but then I realized how weird that sounded. 🙂 She teaches classes in at least the downtown DC location!
