I read that they used a Chinese climb. Also, I read that Today Entertainment review posted earlier and the critical writer made her own mistake. She quoted the judge as saying, “Futuristic with a touch of the erotic.” I thought he said “exotic,” so I watched the video again to confirm this, and yes, he did not say erotic. I don’t know why this caught my attention…

I may have be a wimp when it comes to pain ~
Eyebrow piercing (never closed even after 7 years of no ring): 1
16 different ear piercings (2 closed, now have 14): 1-2 (depending on location)
Tongue piercing (closed): 2
Chronic lower back pain: 3
Upper back tattoo: 4
Chest tattoo: 5
Belly button piercing (now closed but scarred): 5
Lower back tattoo: 6
First few months of pole sits/holds: 7
Slowly piercing my own nose with a safety pin as a teenager (now closed): 8
Migraines: 8
Underarm laser hair removal: 9 (Had about 10 sessions. I imagined, "This is how cows must feel when they get branded")
Root canal: 9 (Kept having panic attacks during the procedure)
Mirena insertion: 10 (Never gave birth: I vomited upon insertion https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif then momentarily lost consciousness and had it removed 6 months later because of spontaneous cramping)
My worst hangovers: 10
Impacted wisdom teeth with abscesses: 10 (Horrible: 2 shots of morphine and 2 prescriptions of Dilaudid barely touched the pain, and the day of dental surgery I demanded to be "put under")
Being drugged/poisoned with GHB: 10+ (Disturbing, but thankfully no assault occurred, but I had to get rushed to the emergency room 3 times in 2 days, missed 5 days of work, was sick for an entire week, and lost 15 pounds from extreme nausea)
(There are two others I want to share but since this is supposed to be a light- hearted discussion and my post is already getting a bit dark, I will stop now before a TMI situation https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif.)

I was surprised to learn how disinterested my boyfriend (of 10 years) was in my pole dancing. But he doesn't even go to strip clubs, so it makes sense that my fully clothed, non-sexual tricks and spins don't interest him. He seems more impressed with the athleticism some moves require rather than aroused by them. All in all, he is more concerned with his music.

I didn't read through all the comments so I don't know if it was addressed, but when I started classes I was told NOT to wear shorts and tank tops because the first things we learned were spins and floor work. The clothing prevented our skin from gripping the pole and giving us pole burn and it made floor moves more comfortable. It was about two and a half months before they told us to start coming to class in shorts and tank tops. Maybe other studios do things differently, but maybe you would feel more comfortable wearing more clothes until you progress your skills which will give you immense confidence regardless of your body type. I couldn't imagine going to my first class in booty shorts and a tank top, but now that I know a few moves I don't care about my thick thighs and cellulite. PS: I am almost 28 and about 40-45 pounds overweight, so I relate.

I second the space heater suggestion. A space heater will seriously help regardless of whether the room has a radiator. I use one when I pole in the living room (front room, family room, people use different terms) here in Wisconsin. You can find them for about $20 US on the Internet.

I recommend Jari Love. Her DVD's focus on weight lifting and strength building. Her DVD's transformed my body. But you will need some sets of weights, which can be found cheap at Walmart or on the internet if you look around.

I can relate to this. I was very athletic and used to work out every day. I have been with my bf for 10 years, and he used to work out with me. Slowly he began to gripe about it, so I started going by myself. Then he started complaining how it was getting in the way of time together. When I said come with, he said he worked all day and wants to just veg out. I began to take on his mentality and slowly my daily workouts turned into every other day, then twice a week, once a week, now I’m lucky to get to the gym once a month. I know I could go by myself, but its so much more fun with a partner and their support. I did tell him how I felt many times, but it was like talking to a wall or a child.
Also, I admit I didn’t always want to workout, but I got into a habit and forced myself to do it. But with my bf’s excuses, I found myself gradually making the same excuses and now I have nobody but myself to blame for losing my muscular body & 6-pack abs and gaining 40 pounds. 🙁

MemberNovember 23, 2012 at 3:59 pm in reply to: random question! any help would be grateful =)I am constantly finding great mirrors for cheap at Goodwill. I got a 3×4 mirror for $2.99. I see bigger ones for about $12.99, and HUGE wall mirrors for $75.

I stand corrected about price. After shipping to US, they are only $2 apart in price, not $25.

Thank you! That was really helpful. I was leaning towards Jamilla and now that you say she focuses more on strength, that sealed the deal. Plus I think her set is less expensive, but that isn’t considering shipping. Maybe next year I’ll get Felix’s set. I have to get whole sets; I have an OCD thing about it.

I want Veena’s lessons, but I need something I can view without an Internet connection. Thanks for the link!

I was wondering the same thing. I have SO many large stretch marks on my inner thighs due to large weight fluctuations throughout life. I get REALLY bad pole burn and pain in those areas. I thought maybe because my skin is already scarred by stretch marks climbing was going to hurt worse for me. In my classes over the summer the thinner girls seemed to have no problem climbing, but for me I could only take it for a few seconds. I wonder if my inner thigh skin is too damaged. I also noticed I get these red spots/bruises where my thighs made contact when climbing.

MemberSeptember 17, 2012 at 4:27 pm in reply to: Menards sale on magnetic levels next week!Thank you so much! My BF just bought the magnetic level you mentioned for me because my brand new X-PERT 50mm Chrome X-Pole arrives TOMORROW! I can't wait. I had a regular level without a magnet, but I figured why not get a magnetic one for FREE. 🙂
