I have the opposite problem with grip since the air here is pretty dry, so sweating actually helps me stick!

I've used a humidifyer to help out my grip…if you live in a humid area maybe try a de-humidifyer?  It would increase the evaporation of sweat off your body so you wouldn't end up as wet.  I have no idea how affordable they are, probably a lot more expensive that a humidifyer.  Using a fan like sensualscimitar said might be a good option too.  In my experience corn huskers lotion makes my sweat more slippery, but maybe in a different climate results would vary.

Lately I've been using Dry Hands on my hands, and just started using it on my body too.  It says it repels sweat, and I find that when I use it on my hands, I don't slip even when I've gotten really sweaty hands.  I use it on my body too, but I haven't gotten sweaty enough to know if it still works through body sweat.

Nice performance!  I love your hair in it.  I watched a few of the others from the showcase too, I loved the tribal dancer, and caught myself studying the moves of the gogo's cause I want to learn gogo.

I'm gonna have to make it a goal to perform in the next one if they have it again next year.

I have a board on pinterest dedicated to my studio design ideas:  http://pinterest.com/annieberrypie/studio-design-ideas/

It's obvious I favor the vintage glam theme, haha.  Have fun creating your pole space!  I would love to have one room dedicated to pole.

Nice job! I wish I had a home studio, yours looks great.

  • PoleDollqld, to me that comment looked like some random person posing as Felix Cane.  It was a post from an almost empty youtube account so I wouldn't take it seriously.  Felix is sponsored by PS apparently but she didn't play a part in producing the OC pole fitness demo.  I don't think the O.C. studio being affiliated with PS makes their demo any more or less bias than Veena being an Xpole dealer makes hers bias.

And now Poledanceworldsite is claiming that someone hacked her(his?) youtube account…Ugh, this whole thing is giving me a headache.

  • @riddleboxxy, I didn't think anything looked off balance, and if the legs on the XSL weren't fully extended it didn't seem to affect the performace of it at all.  I actually thought the poleworldsite demo was pretty fair even though it was obvious that it was a response to the Veena demo.  The comments from poleworldsite on the other hand started out reasonable and helpful, then they just got misleading and then downright untrue…

Oo, that's cool.  I actually might wear that over another color 😀

  • I haven't seen PS officially encourage it (Is Poledanceworldsite with PS?), but I've just seen one too many proponents of PS be illogical and rude.  I dunno what the deal is.

  • Thank you Webmaster, good to know!  I'm gonna look into the velcro pads, I wonder if they keep the plates from popping in and out? or just keep the base from sliding along the ground.  If I'm doing demos at events there's a chance I could have it set up on a raised platform and having it slide around on that would not be cool.

And Chemgoddess, ty, I forgot about the option of adding weight on the XSL.

  • @runemist, I thought showing the SSA in use while the XSL was still being set up was a fair way to highlight the difference in setup time.  I don't think that particular part makes it biased.   I do agree about the legs though, that saying "no stability legs needed" makes the fact that the SSA doesn't have the option of any extra stability seem like a good thing when I would consider it a negative.  I liked how they showed that the legs on the XSL have the potential to be a hazard when dancing around the base though, that is something that I need to think about.

Veena showed the base plates popping up on the SSA but the Jagged video didn't…that seems like something buyers should know about if it's a prevalent issue… does anyone else who has used the SSA have additional input on that?

I like the clean base on the SSA but I like the stability and sturdiness of the XSL… Decisions, decisions!

My husband ordered me an LED hoop from moodhoops.com for my birthday.  I'm pretty sure the one he got me was only around $100.  It's nice quality, came with two rechargeable batteries and a charger.   I love it 🙂

Aaah!  That's not encouraging, amy!  but good to know nonetheless.  I might as well phsych myself out for pain.  And then if the pain just reduces somewhat with practice or even goes away that would be a bonus.  I think striking a beautiful superman hold in a performance someday will be worth it.  Here's to hoping https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

And thank heaven my pole sits are no longer painful!

I can understand that.  The sad thing is that by the looks of some of the comments on the article, some people don't wonder.  Some people outright say the girls deserved what happened, which I think is horrible.  Nobody deserves to be abducted or killed or whatever, and I hope media coverage will help humanize the missing women.  I think that might have been what this story was going for.  A lot of times violent crimes against prostitutes or strippers get ignored by media because it's percieved that the general public won't care, or won't think of them as what they are–someone's daugher, sister, friend, mother ect…

Yes it will hurt, and yes it will get better 😀  I remember it being really painful to do any variation of a pole sit (layback, plank ect) and now it doesn't feel any different than holding myself up with my hands.  I just started practicing the superman though and dang that hurts!  For me the superman point of contact is more on my front inner thighs, whereas the point of contact for sits and laybacks and planks are more on my back inner thigh.  So I guess I have to endure pain while I get used to supporting myself with skin two inches away from the spot that's already toughened up, yay 😛  I've basically just been getting myself into superman position from a handstand and sliding to the floor to help make it more painful, I mean, to spead up the toughening process ;P

I generally don't like FOX either 😛  The video did seem unnecessarily dark-toned in the editing (and yeah, why a vid of natasha wang??), but the article didn't come off judgemental to me at all.  It didn't make any judjement calls as to the charachter of the women or imply that the missing women deserved what happened to them, it seemed to me it was just getting their story out there.  It clearly says it's telling the story of 'some' women in stripping, not all.  The interviewee's negative experiences with stripping does't negate another dancer's positive experience, and a positive experience in the job doesn't negate someone else's negative one. I'm glad to hear from ladies here on StudioVeena that there are dancers who feel protected in their job and love doing it and that there are clubs that treat their dancers well.  There are real dangers that come with the job though and I don't think pretending they don't exist helps anyone.  To go a step further I think it actually prevents the industry from getting better.

I think the positive spin is that one of the girls created "Eve's Angels" to offer non-judgemental support to women who experience any of the negatives that she did.
