I love the sh*t people say vids.  I thought the "sh*t yogis say" vid that lululemon made was hilarious, and after watching it I tried to look for a pole dance one on youtube but didn't find any. Thanks to those who posted links to some 😀

    sh*t pole dancers say:

"I think I could do a chopper on that stop sign."

"I dunno, I don't really feel like going out tonight.  Oh, there's a pole there? I'm in."

"Wanna see my pole bruise? Don't worry it's just on my shin."

I can understand that kcfl5.  Yeah anyone following all your boards will see if you pin pole stuff.  I'm pretty open with family and everyone I know about pole so I pin what I want, and figure they don't have to follow my pole board in particular if they don't want to see when I pin pole stuff.  It's funny though, my SIL who doesn't pole was actually looking for pics of yoga poses to pin and found a pole pose that exhibited some impressive flexibility so she pinned it to her yoga board.  My sister saw it and didn't even look to see who pinned it, she just assumed I did.  When she asked me later about it I was like "wha…?".

  • I remember being obsessed with that song when that movie came out.  I say do it, it's myserious, almost dark even.  I think it would make a great pole song.

Haha, yay!  When I first started my board I wondered if I was the only poler on there cause I rarely saw any pole pics but now I'm subscribed to a few others and make a point to collect them 😀

Yeah, really good comments.  Black Orchid, I think it's cool that you forget that some people don't understand pole dance, I think it means you are a positive person and anticipate positive from others.  I agree though, it can be a shock to come accross people who don't see it as a positive thing even though it's such a positive thing for us.

"It doesn't make me feel better when they separate what I do ( "oh you are more artistic than th eother pole dancers I've seen etc")…I don't want that divide! That's snobbery."

I agree, and yet, I'm still not totally into the stripper aspect.  Even though I love the sensual aspect of pole dance I can't get into some of the more graphic stipper-ish moves.  I'm still trying to figure out if that's just residual from my conservative upbrining or if it just simply isn't my style.  Like for instance the extreme platform style heels that are iconically known as stripper heels, for some reason they just look like hooves to me and I can't figure out if I truly just don't like the aesthetic of them or if it's just leftover conservative programming.  I love how high heels in general look and love wearing them, just not "strippah" ones.  Go figure.

Maybe people feel that way because stripping as a profession is often seen as something women would only do as a last resort, and that it's degrading for any woman who does it (It can be, but so can working in the fast food industry).  So in a way, taking pole dance out of the stripping/sex industry context and doing it for your own enjoyment is the ultimate act of feminism, kind of taking the activity back for your own control and enjoyment rather than having to do it for the enjoyment of someone else.  Sometimes I don't get people, they don't want somone else to enjoy your sexuality, they don't want you to enjoy your sexuality, who is supposed to benefit from it then?  From a feminism standpoint, there are actually some extreme feminists who believe makeup, high heels, or basically anything women do to beautify themselves is a form of societal sexual slavery.  Thankfully there are also feminists who are more balanced and validate those things and enjoy them.

She is one of the youtube polers that first inspred me too.  And not just because of the fact that she pole danced beautifully, but on her youtube profile she said she suffered from social anxitety which I also have as well.  I wonder what she's up to and I hope she's doing ok….

I'm in the process of deciding which freestanding stage pole to get and this review is extremely helpful, thank you!  Before watching this I was leaning towards x-pole but seeing that the weight and setup time for SSA is much less I'm seriously considering that one.  It's also really nice to know about the tendency of the base plates to pop up on the SSA, I just need to decide if the lower weight and shorter set-up time are going to be worth it to me.

To those saying they thought this comparison looked like a paid infomercial, It would have been irresponsible of Veena to do a demo of these two products side by side and *not* demonstrate the SSA plates popping up, and other issues with it.  I think asking her to leave those things out is asking her to be bias toward PS by ommission of any legitimate issues with it.

I agree Ronia, a lot of the videos show it from a man's perspective, the girls don't even look like they are enjoying themselves, they're like booty popping zombies.  That part I find sad.  I do get giddy tho when I see pole in ANYTHING like a shoutout to pole, haha.

I second that!  I was talking to someone about teaching pole and they started telling me how I should make a website and create online lessons and a community since pole dance is so obscure, and I was like "uuhhh, already been done!".  And done so well that no other site has come close.  You two are a great team.

I believe you're right Moonflower.  PaytonPlays has some pretty in depth opinions on the inner workings of companies in the pole world for a recreational poler.  She claims to know things about the owner of x-pole and his dealings with studios, she claims to know about pole competitions and what the competitors use, and which studios use what, as well as things about the whole pole dance demographic.  Although the opinions she draws from her "knowledge" are thinly supported.

At first I thought maybe she really doesn't know better, which is why I responded, but it appears she knows exactly what she's doing.  It's sad cause PS makes good poles.  I think of thier permanent poles as ideal for studio use, and xpoles as ideal for recreational use or for studios that need to set up and take down poles in diff locations.  PaytonPlays seems like she's trying to support PS but she's just making PS look really really bad by association alone.

PP demonstrates rather in depth knowledge (or i should say opinion) of the pole world and related companies  and company owners for a brand new recreational poler from MA.  Hmmmm….

I def give props to chicks who can handle the stripper scene.  I think if you break it down, it's really really really good acting.  I definitely couldn't pretend to like random guys at strip-clubs enough to validate them for their money.

Good luck on your journey!  I think your plan sounds like a great starting point.  When I started learning more about nutrition I cut down on refined breads and other starchy "filler" stuff and replaced them with whole grains like brown rice, and also beans, kinda like you 🙂  Whenever I try to cut down on something I like to replace it with something else, like instead of simply cutting out hot chocolate (one of my fave treats in the winter that I used to drink daily) I make tea instead.  Just remember to stay focused.  If you decide to eat something that's not in your plan, don't mentally punish yourself over it!  Evaluate if it was worth it: if you wanted to treat yourself and thoroughly enjoyed it, then it was probably a good thing, just as long as you return to your plan and stick with it most of the time you will do fine.
