Hi,
Welcome. I’m an Essex girl too but I live in Kent now. You don’t need to worry about having courage to put up a video everyone here is very supportive. I really want to get a video up but lack of video camera holds me back.

Wow Tara what a great opportunity I’m gonna pass this message onto my instructor and see what she says as I think this may be something she’d like. Thanks for posting!

There are a variety of poles at the studio I go to and I quite like the R-pole. They have 38mm or 50mm versions the 50mm is new so have a chat to them. They can also come with a spin mode but I’ve not tried that. They are easy to set up and I haven’t had any problems with them. The base is quite heavy once put together as is the pole itself so it’s tough to move it once it’s set up so definately set it up where you will be using it. They do move but so do other free standing poles I’ve used there haven’t been any moves I’ve been unable to do. You may be able to borrow a pole to try out from the manufacturer if you are UK based as I think that’s what the lady who runs our studio did. I must admit I do prefer a pole which is secured on the ceiling but the studio I’m at got them as there were issues with a venue so they moved and the new venue wouldn’t let them have poles which fit to the ceiling. Beginners through to advanced use these poles without a problem and the mat inspires confidence in beginners.
Hope this helps

Hey try not to worry I agree with Mindy the pole school I’m at is smaller than it’s competitors but many girls switch schools as they’ve had a bad experience and if you’re pretty much next door it seems a good place to start. I see loads of girls who explain they didn’t instantly get a move and the instructors seem to zone in on the girls that can do it rather than spending time with those that don’t and poor teaching methods. How can you teach a move if you don’t break it down? but the schools near us find this part difficult.
I love the idea of guest instructors. Become friends with Deb Riley on facebook she’s arranging studios to host Pantera at the moment but for her studio launch she had a lot of big names and seems to know all the important people so become her friend. I get so much information on pole jams etc off facebook so use it! Also become a friend of Taylors Retreat it’s an amazing pole studio which hosts loads of events become friends with the other big studios they always post masterclasses with the pros if you can organise trips for you and your students to masterclasses that’s a bonus. See if you can register your school with the pole dance community as a safe school to pole at too http://www.poledancecommunity.co.uk. I’m trying to think of other little bits which may help you probably have them covered but anything that might help! There are loads of cheap/free ways to advertise if you’re stuck with advertising ideas send me a message and I’ll send you all the things my studio uses. You are the opposite end of the country so I won’t get in trouble with my boss for telling you the things I’ve set up since I became an instructor for her.
Goodluck and hang in there a good reputation take time to build but once it gets going you’ll be inundated with new people who want to pole.

MemberMarch 15, 2010 at 11:51 am in reply to: Deb Riley Masterclass (In case you dont read blogs)Hi Ladies,
Just reporting back on the masterclass. It was amazing I had so much fun but couldn’t really move the next day as it was such hard work. We did a lot of work on spinney pole which I’ve never done before so it was really good. She taught us some aerial hoop too and now I’m hooked. That woman is amazing. I would recommend her classes if you can get to her. She made us wear heels all day and I never dance in heels so the extra weight on inverts quickly knackered me out. I loved her back to basics approach where she ironed out any little things we were doing wrong which weren’t quite perfect like basic posture, pointed toes on CAR (I unknowingly flex my bottom foot) and full leg extension on climbing. Such tiny changes make a big difference.
I was a bit disappointed that after working so hard on my shouldermount in princess grip she told us we could only do it double cup in her class which I couldn’t do for the life of me without kicking into it but I understand as the move she was trying to teach us wouldn’t work with a princess grip. So i’m back to the drawing board with that one but I’m sure it will be good for me.
The girls in the masterclass were so strong I must admit I was a bit jealous but they’ve worked hard to get their strength so it inspires me to do the same.

Poledanceromance you are beautiful have a real good look at yourself and I’m sure you’ll see it too.
The more comments I read the more I think yes I like that part of me too so fab topic glad it’s up here.
I love the natural curve of my eyebrows (they take a bit of taming but that’s cool), my smile, my boobs, my nipped in waist giving my a curvy hour glass shape, I love my bum and I even love my little tummy as I’ve recently realised it’s a womanly thing we are designed to have curves.Since I started pole dancing I’ve become more confident in my body and am less self concious now despite weight gain over the years than I was when I was younger and a uk size 8 and now even think I was probably too skinny then gotta love the curves.

MemberFebruary 16, 2010 at 10:21 am in reply to: Deb Riley Masterclass (In case you dont read blogs)I’m booked into one of her masterclasses in March I’m looking forward to it’s good to hear you enjoyed the class too. It’s a bit scary knowing how good she is but I will work super hard until the class to get my strength up. I’m trying to stop kicking into my shouldermount but it’s so hard so good luck with that Trena. For anyone that’s interested in doing a masterclass I think she has them listed on facebook but places are going fast.
