I was at this comp. AMAZING! My husband and I were sitting next to the judges. Becca Butcher moves like an angel. i was too shy to say anything to her, even though I was only 4 feet away.

PS….dont lower your prices…increase your class time. I fthink $10 is way to low for a pole class. You are selling your experience…don't sell your self short!

I love the idea of reducing class time with 1 per pole….I forget who said it…What do you guys prefer…Stretching at the beginning or end. Are most of your guys classes fully "chorey" or more manuever/trick based. What do you think is the best amout of time for "Freestyle" practice time in class?

Empyrean,
Great info. It's great that this industry has some well informed leaders.

Hi Em…Where do you need to be Incorporated? Out in Cali it is not required. Love the referral for the Pole insurance. i pay big buck outs here and it was hard to find, got dropped by some after the fact..It was very annoying. As we all know how long it takes to try to change or find or deal with anything that is "insurance" related.

A lot of times you can look up a lot of info on the internet that is speciific for your city and state. Call your city and ask them too. Get insurance…It's never a bad idea. If you are an IC you need it to protect yourself from the "in case" that happened. Not sure about the biz liscence. In Cali..you need everything..I'm brick and mortar type biz so I have a business Liscence to do business in my city.
Also, don't take anybody's word and think "oh…I only need to do that." Nobody is going to really care your business like you do. So find out the information for yourself and know for sure. Saying "I didn't know I had to do that" won't matter if someone is sueing you or the IRS is knocking on your door.
Congrats,
Jennifer

Ps…there is hope after 30..I'm 42 and can still do the splits.

I agree with Veean. You do not stretch a cold muscle. You can move a cold muscle, but you want to ease into your stretching. You want to allow the stretch to come..Not force it, your muscles are more supple when they are warmer. This doesn't mean go do an hour workout. It means start easy……take your time. If you are trying to get your splits.(front) make sure you are strecting your calves, back, hip flexors, psoas, obliques, quads, and yes ….hamstrings. They all need a certain level of flexibilty. Also, contract your muscles as you stretch. Hold or press into something the opposite way you want to stretch for 7 seconds and then release the stretch a little further. This is called PNF strectching and it will help you achieve your flexibilty "level" faster. But like I said stretching takes time, hold the stretch for at least 30 seconds…..a few minutes is better.

Great post. I love the discription of the Allegra. I will try agian when I am 100%.

Also, use abs and flex your lower lumbar (low back, c curl, round, tilt, whatever you want to call it)
-
Try to laterally rotate the femur in the hip socket and use your adductors to bring the legs farther apart in your straddle. You will able to bring your feet farther apart and will appear to have more flexibility

chemgoddess is right. slow and controlled. I've found good hamstring flexibility helps too with the chopper position.

I broke my 10th and 11th rib a few months ago working on the jade and the allegra. Not exactly sure which one did it, but if is more pain then just pole burn get someone to help you so you don't hurt your self and have to take time off. I think Veena has a great lesson on this move.
