Must be true because I’ve been stuck about four inches off the ground on my right side for the past like two years. *grump* …of course this may also have something to do with the fact that sometimes I get in such a bad attitude from stretching frustration that I don’t do it for a week at a time. LOL Vicious cycle!

Here are sources to backup what I’ve said. The mayo clinic is one of the foremost sources for standards of care in the US. Everything in this link applies to enemas as well.

Here’s the wiki for enemas. There are lots of good secondary links with more info as well. Note they do talk about using an enema as a laxative, but you do still need to talk to your doctor about this again because of the risks mentioned above.

I would be careful with that. Repeated enemas and colon cleanses are not necessary and can in fact be dangerous for several reasons:

Enemas and cleaning can kill the natural bacterial flora in your gut and colon which actually keep you healthy and are necessary for proper digestion.

Your GI Tract and colon are naturally self-cleansing and do not retain “toxins” as some say. But this natural cleansing action occurs with a delicate balance of bacterial flora, mucous production, and proper digestive action. All of these can be disturbed with enemas and cleansing. What your body needs to maintain these processes are a good balance of clean and healthy foods and lots of water.

Inflammation. The inside of your bowel and colon is not meant to be exposed to external elements or extreme solutions. Using diet cleansers or enemas can cause extreme swelling and irritation of the sensitive mucous membranes of your digestive tract. This inflammation can potentially lead to the most serious risk of all…

Anything that disrupts your eating patterns or digestion can up your risk for extreme constipation or even an obstructed bowel. If you are vey constipated or have an obstructed bowel, performing an enema should never be done at home as it can rupture the bowel. You would bleed out internally and die at home in a shockingly short amount of time. Even if you are in a hospital with a ruptured bowel, you can still die from a massive septic infection from the contents of your bowel leaking into your abdominal cavity. The ONLY way doctors can save you is to open up your entire abdominal cavity surgically and literally remove your bowel from your body, flush your entire cavity out with sterile saline, repair the bowel, staple you shut, and pump you full of antibiotics. It is an extremely traumatic surgery which carries its own massive risks.

Just like we now know for scientific fact that douching is unhealthy because the vagina is self-cleansing, we now know the same is true of the digestive tract, colon and bowel. Whenever you are experiencing digestive upset, the first thing you should do is clean up your diet and consult your doctor, not try to flush out your system with solutions which will only loosen the irritation. No enema or colon cleanse will ever make you feel as good as cleaning up your diet, upping your water intake, and exercising will.

Ultimately, enemas and cleanses are extremely invasive to your body and you should never undertake something like this without talking to your M.D.

Hi polediva! I live in Decatur. I used to teach classes at a studio there but the owner had a baby and decided to close up shop to be a full time mom. I’m actually moving back to Chicago at the end of May but I’d love to meet any central IL polers in the meantime!

I actually just remembered something reading your post corbyoconnor…I think I had blocked it from memory. For a while I had a very creepy landlord with a notoriously bad reputation (didn’t find any of that out until after signing my lease) and he sent me a text one day saying “hey I like what’s in your living room you should give me a show sometime.”

I was totally disgusted because I hadn’t noticed him around, so my firs thoughts were: is he peeking in my windows? Coming into my apartment when I’m not here? Going through my stuff? He even offered me a “deal” on rent if I would dance for him and that he was “intrigued.” VOMIT!!!!!!

Told him in no uncertain terms he could not pull that shit with me. Moved out as soon as I could. Funny enough, after I made it clear I had no problems using his texts against him it became impossible to get anything fixed that was broken. What kind of a moron actually puts their creepyness in writing?

So yeah. Keep your heads up, ladies. Even people who seem okay at first might not have your best interests in mind. If anyone makes you feel unsafe do whatever you need to do to assert and protect yourself.

I too have answered the door mid pole workout to missionaries. There’s one lady in particular who brings her young daughter along as part of her sales pitch. She looked a bit peeved when I opened the door and they never came back either. Score one for pole IMO ^_^

I have to say that while I think the new pole stars are amazing (have you SEEN cleo’s new trick? She’s using her freaking butt to grip the pole. Dude!) my favorite thing about all the YouTube exposure is that it has allowed us lots of “candid” footage. I love that we get to see so many pole videos that capture one of those times where the music was just right, everything felt right, and the dance came out magically, easily, like pouring water. Not always technically perfect, or the flawlessly choreographed routine that wins an international comp, but really the feeling that drives us all to some extent. This isn’t a team sport. There’s something about the feeling of doing this that keeps us all going.

But, most of my most recent favorites on YouTube have been of freestyle videos. Not always clean or perfect, but they motivate and inspire. Webstwe from Brassy Butterfly’s floorwork videos, Annemarie Davies’ “shadow on the sun” freestyle, Fleur has some warmup vids out there that are omgwoah, that occasional random freestyle vid you find that makes you go “wait woah who the hell is this person that just crawled out of the woodwork and into my heart?!” and even a few studioveena members whose videos I find myself just keeping clicking “favorite” on because watching them dance is just so. Damn. Good.

I don’t perform or compete. Pole to me has become about a certain feeling, a physical satisfaction that has really rounded me out as a person and given me something I thrive on. So lately my pole idols have come to my attention in virtue of a video that captures that same feeling and inspires me to find new ways to push myself, to take the training and the exercising and literally make something beautiful out of it.

Maybe I’m just a sap, sorry! LOL

Omg thank you Veena, I am SO SO SO excited about this!!!!! My man is a classically trained guitarist, something few people do nowadays. He plays so much beautiful music. Maybe I can convince him to play live for me while I record my challenge!

I personally want to go back and do the old January challenge to spend a full song aerial. It would be fun because I remember when the challenge first came out and going “omg NO WAY could I do that.”

Yes! But I might be driving to st. Louis today to pole jam from 3-5 which would mean I’d need to leave here around noon and I wouldn’t get back until around 7.

Fwiw, I took someone’s advice and tried doing my stretching after a hot bath and had a great experience with that. I usually hate stretching and it was a lot more bearable.

I don’t always wait to work out after eating but if I really want to push myself, I try not to stuff my face beforehand. I do also have a bad tendency to “forget to eat” or get lazy and just wind up snacking until dinner, like a bowl of cereal for breakfast and then again for lunch, and when I’m hungry at 4 going ehhh ill just have some yogurt I don’t want to ruin my appetite for dinner, and then not eating a real meal until 5:30 lol.

Also superman teddy jamilla lift! Love a corkscrew lift into any teddy variation on spinny mode, nadia sharif does that one a lot, into the teddy type fromt armpit hold that’s in a chair spin position.

Figurehead is a good in as well. And if you have a solid no-hands corkscrew, you can end it in a teddy, then lower the legs to the ground.

Joel Lessing goes to the Actor’s Gymnasium for aerial training, that’s in Evanston. I believe it’s wise to call ahead of time to verify that the class you wish to attend isn’t full, but as long as there are spaces left I believe they do allow drop ins.

  • Definitely worth a try in practice, but I just giggled picturing performing on spin with one eye shut. Or god forbid an eye patch. Maybe my trademark can be the “pirate wench” look LOL
