The gaping wound under that duct tape is RAUNCHY now! I actually took so much skin off my foot that I’ve been walking with a limp the past few days. I guess at some point I pulled my foot off the pole and the skin on my foot just stayed behind for kicks. Of course I didn’t realize until in between the jam and showcase, so all I could really do was tape it up to give it some padding so I could climb to clean (albeit a little less gracefully than usual HAHA)
Now I’m duct tape girl forever. D’OH!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Why does anyone WATCH Fox news https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif Sigh. I thought the owner made several excellent points! I know that at the local circus school, they let the kids on the poles and they LOVE them!!! None of the parents complain! That news lady was so determined to be disapproving https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I say boycott Fox news!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
I agree 100%. But, remember, we ARE talking about the same fox news that actually won a lawsuit saying they have the right to knowingly report falsehoods as news. Saying whatever the heck they want, even when they know it’s total bullhooey, is pretty much their business model. (Obama-army military concentration camps for kids? REALLY??) Honestly, I think this is even more bizarre….she’s just flailing her arms and going "WILL SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!"
Meanwhile "the children" are getting a great workout and thinking "what is this weirdo lady’s problem?" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

MemberAugust 2, 2010 at 7:14 am in reply to: Shoot!!!! Darnit, fiddlesticks, POOP!!!I’ve never been to a Pole Jam before, but from what I understand, aren’t you all going there to have fun? It’s not a workshop or master class, right? I don’t think it matters what level you’re at, or if you’re rusty, or if you can or cannot do this trick or that one. It’s a great place for people to meet up who all love to pole.
That’s what bugs me. Not necessarily a drive to be as awesome as possible. More related to the fact that I only just got my elbow grip to a pretty comfortable place with my last session with it on Thursday, so I doubt I’m going to want to try it at the jam. This is frustrating to me because it was a move that never clicked for me and I was all gung-ho about it. I wish the studio poles were in, but sadly that’s at least a week away too. I did order the extension. I just hate that I’m looking at a whole week of frustration because of a total ditz mistake and an inch and a half. $50 for 1.5" extra is just so….well it’s already spent so…I guess I just hope that, by some miracle, it gets here by like, Thursday. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

MemberAugust 1, 2010 at 11:42 pm in reply to: Shoot!!!! Darnit, fiddlesticks, POOP!!!go easy on yourself, girl. you had a lot you were stressing about. you will get the extension, and lesson learned for the next apartment.
if you’re really hard up, instead of buying the extension, you can buy a sheet of plywood and cut it in squares the width of your base. find your studs in the ceiling and screw one square through at least two studs (find an intersection). then screw the next layer to that, etc, so that you have 1.5" thick built up.
crazy stupid people, you can do nothing about. sorry. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif we all get em.
I would definitely use that idea, but these are plaster ceilings. No way I will find studs or get through to them even if I could. The advantage is that I can put my pole anywhere I want it because they’re so solid. The downside is that it makes this quick fix impossible =( I bought the extension, but I know it won’t get here in time for the jam. So I’m going to probably be really rusty and crappy when I get there. As for going easy on myself….I just can’t help it. This was such a dumb mistake, and I’m so screwed because of it =( I just feel like I can’t practice enough before my classes start, and with everything up in the air the dancing is so….SO necessary to keep my stress down. Maybe I will sneak upstairs to the boys’ apartment and measure their ceilings and beg them to use one of their empty bedrooms if I can. Knowing my luck, they’re probably this odd 9-1.5′ BUNK too. What a stupid height for a ceiling to be. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

Two things…first, Isis I just met you a few weeks ago. You are definitely still a curvy lady! I don’t think you have anything to worry about in that regard.
Second, there’s probably just a few inches difference between those pics. In the second pic, the woman is wearing her pants higher up. Me personally, I either wear my pants lower or higher than the second picture, because I don’t like that look of having the waist nip in right over the top of the pants, I like to look more like the first pic, with the waistline lower. I just think it looks better on me to either hit right at the hip or high up at the very narrowest part of the waist.
I’ll also say that since I started poling about a year ago, I find that certain cuts and styles of clothing are flattering on me now that did not used to be flattering before, and some clothes I have in my closet that I remember looking GREAT on me over a year ago now just don’t quite fit right. Everyone’s body changes with fitness level. Part of the overall process of getting fit and being well means learning to love the positive at each new level of change, even if it’s change you weren’t entirely anticipating. For example, I have really seen an increase in muscle in my lats, which in some ways I’m not too happy about, but it does give me the look of having more curves than I’ve ever had before, and means certain things like –say, a nice blazer style jacket–have a much nicer tailored look on me than they did before. Yet, on the other hand, I pulled out one of my favorite tank tops yesterday and, while it used to make my waist look tiny, I have gained weight poling from adding muscle and that top is completely unflattering now.
The total-body makeover takes time. Appreciate your progress and keep striving to be healthier — then enjoy discovering new looks and new possibilities!

Bananas also work. My momma gave them to me all the time as a kid for growing pains. They really stop cramps fast. I didn’t know tonic water had the same benefit.

I got really, really bad cramping in my calves after doing a workshop and lesson back to back (one night then the next morning). I definitely felt it was from obsessive pointing. I did some gentle lunges, straddle and pike stretches on the floor with flexed feet, and had my guy rub out my calves for me, starting really gently then going into deep tissue massage. Not necessarily in that order. Massage helped the most. Stretching seemed to reinforce the progress of the massages, but I didn’t get much relief unless used in combination with the massage. I also took ibuprofen. But my calves were literally so locked up that I couldn’t go up and down stairs without feeling like I would fall due to the limited range of motion in my feet/ankles from my calves being sooo tight.

MemberJuly 28, 2010 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Official Midwest Pole Jam Info-August 7 in CHICAGO!!!Empy: showcase….heh…uh, funny story about that………I’ve never actually performed in public before. The thought is kind of terrifying! I mean….there’s some people on this guest list that I’ve got butterflies just to meet, let alone perform in front of!
Poleophile: what time are you planning on getting in? I was thinking about coming straight to the jam from Decatur myself, but I could be back Friday evening if need be. I think my bf might be coming up with me for a break before school starts, but I’m not sure yet. I’m such a last-minute planner, I’m sorry! I’m sure we can work something out. I need to talk to my mom and my man this afternoon, I’ll let you know as soon as the plan is finalized.
UPDATE: parents will definitely be out of town, so I can host up to 4 quite comfortably.

MemberJuly 28, 2010 at 3:03 pm in reply to: Official Midwest Pole Jam Info-August 7 in CHICAGO!!!I will be staying at my parents’ home in Oak Lawn, which is just about 30 minutes from the jam. There’s a good chance that both my parents will be out of town that weekend. If that’s the case, I would have tons of room to put people up. I could host 2 in beds plus I have an air mattress and a comfy couch, so I could host 4 in total if need be. If my parents will be home, I could host 2. Both are awesomely awesome and I can promise would not make anyone feel awkward about the reason for the trip IF they’re even around. It’s too bad that my boyfriend’s parents are not pole-friendly, they actually live in new Lenox.

MemberJuly 28, 2010 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Official Midwest Pole Jam Info-August 7 in CHICAGO!!!Well, I just bought my ticket. EEEEEKS $30 is so much for me to spend right now, to say nothing of gas costs and etc. Ack I need a job. Well, guess I’m officially coming. Gonna go fan myself off and try to stop worrying about going broke. Being a pole instructor…does not pay the bills. LOL
