I’ll let you all know how it goes. If everything works out, I should know a lot more after meeting with her. I’m excited! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

MemberJune 7, 2010 at 9:03 pm in reply to: I might get the chance to teach the basics!!Thank you so much!! She wants it to be an exotic dance course, so I think I want to do fun sessions like basic pole work, sexy walks and turns and a few basic spins and climbs, maybe a ckr/car, just the things I have really mastered myself and can effortlessly use in my dancing, and combine that with a little striptease, lots of floor and chair and lapdance moves! And break up each lesson with a good at least 5 minute warmup and a 5 minute cooldown with another 5-10 minutes of deep stretching at the end. I have "The Genius of Flexibility" so I want to teach a few partnered stretches too…I spent years stretching for the splits the conventional way and now can pretty much drop to a center split thanks to bob LOL. So I am definitely excited for a chance to get paid to be sexy, and not in a way that involves people chucking change at my head hahaha. I just def want to put a good stretching component in there because I know how frustrating it is when what’s holding you back from a move looking really good is just not having the range of motion.
But I def am not going to broadcast myself as an expert, just a normal person who changed their life with exercise and sexiness (and you can, too!) Can’t you just hear the sales pitch? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Yeah it was definitely one of those "oh my god I can’t shower enough!" feelings. I mean, do I dance sexy? sure all the time. But there’s a reason I’m not working at a strip club, you know? Fortunately the guy isn’t dangerous, I don’t think he’d like, force himself on anyone. He’s just an awkward creepy creeper. What’s worse? He’s got a wife and two little babies https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

My landlord is a sick disgusting nasty creeper who makes creepy advances to all his female tenants. He found out about my pole by looking in my windows (!!!!!!!!!!) Needless to say, I am moving soon (also for other reasons but creepy landlord is a BIG reason.)
I advocate not telling the landlord whenever possible after this experience. Remember you have a very limited business relationship with a landlord. You have no way of knowing if he might be a total perv. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

Put clear packing tape over the bottoms. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif (works to make them slide on carpet, too)

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif would be a five hour drive for me. If plans for a jam get finalized, I might be able to swing an overnighter or something if someone would be willing to put me up for the night. My broke recent college grad self definitely could not afford gas and accommodations for 1.
If someone would possibly be willing to give me a place to stay, I’d be happy to bring my pole to contribute to a jam. I wish I had more to offer https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I think I need to stretch out my shoulders a lot before I try it then. My shoulders are so tight, I worry about pulling in the top bracket. But my shoulders are really, really tight. I can overstretch them just working on reverse grabs.

Question for Veena and Amy in particular…have you ever done it with the double forward cup? I can sm with double forward really easily and I just can’t work out in my head whether your hands would get twisted up doing a flip with it. I think it would work but i’m not sure if you’d lose all stability once you got over.

I learned that spin as veena teaches it, using the bottom hand turned sideways-ish not with any weight bearing on it, just to keep a healthy distance from the pole since beginners tend to have poor momentum in spins and it will keep you from bashing into the pole as you slow down. I think the actual one-handed chair is definitely not a real beginner spin, but something to build up to. I couldn’t do a chair safely with just half bracket when I first started. That bottom hand helped me feel secure and get the feel for the distance I should be from the pole. It also directs your momentum if you keep the lower hand on the pole, but not bearing weight just guiding, from the walk around through the spin. The first few times I tried it one handed I wound up halfway into a reverse grab because I didn’t have the shoulder strength in the top bracket to keep myself at a right angle to the pole. Observe:

Also notice she has it listed in intermediate. Def not a first day move. I doubt a real beginner would have the strength needed to have the majority of the weight on just the top bracket. You’ll notice she uses that bottom hand to direct momentum. I think that’s why it’s posted at the beginning of the intermediate lessons. It’s a good spin that gets you used to the kind of momentum sensations that will go into one handed spins like the reverse grab. It’s a good building block when taught the way she teaches it. You’ll notice how she kind of turns her hand towards the end of the spin…that’s how you can tell that hand isn’t bearing weight, shes holding lightly.
