MemberNovember 29, 2009 at 5:20 pm in reply to: The official splits progress threadMe too! I’m staying at my parents’ house for the weekend and I don’t think there’s a good place to snap a pic. But I will post them, I promise!
Is it weird that I have my center split but I’m a foot off the ground on both sides for front splits? Hrm. I’ve done a lot of yin yoga on my hip flexors, maybe I’ve just gotten them more open than I thought? I’m no anatomy expert so it seems weird to me. I feel like I’ve gotten them backwards.

It was her contortion videos that really hooked me. The way she blends her strength with her flexibility on the pole was was so inspiring to me that her style is definitely a major influence as I start to move past just learning moves and start developing my own thang. She’s one of those handful of dancers who just so perfectly emulate what I want to get out of this sport that I find them intimidatingly good. Thank God for the internet, because without it I’d be too scared to talk to to a few of my favorite people here, and even then…you girls and your epic skillz make me want to huddle at your feet sometimes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I get so starstruck with the dancers who take my breath away every time.

I’ll use this opportunity to admit pole has given me my best body ever as well. I suffered for years with eating disorders, and I still get twinges of those feelings every now and then. But, when I look in the mirror now, my brain can’t lie to me anymore…I am smokin’, SMOKIN’ hot nakie! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Pole comes with equal parts of fitness and outlook adjustment. All these beautiful new muscles on my body have changed my world!

Cheers lovelies, i STILL don’t have it down! I’ve done it once or twice and it’s taken me by suprise both times! I’ve had people watch me at class to see if i’m doing something stilly on my way up there but aparently i’m doing everything i should be so i think it’s a mental thing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
I’m getting a camera soon too so i’ll be able to post some vids for more of your awesome advice. I’ve learned so much just from watching you guys and reading the advice given to other people!
This is the best site pole dancing site i’ve been on. Love it! x
Maybe you just need to give it a nice shrill battle cry as you march up to the pole intimidatingly. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Seriously though, I did a few weeks of nose to knee crunches from cross knee or cross ankle (whichever felt better on any given day lol) and got my aerial invert totally spontaneously one day and haven’t had any problems since. Those inverted situps whip your abs into shape in no time.

I left a comment but I will restate here that you are freakin’ awesome. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Wow!!! That was so beautiful I think that’s the vid I’ll use to tell my parents about my pole dancing!!!

I used to have standard as well as inverse navel, now I only have the inverse. But I haven’t aggravated it poling thus far, even moves that have my belly right on the pole. Then again, it’s a very happy and well established 5 year old piercing, I wouldn’t want to heal a standard navel with poling …eek the bending lol

Just make sure you can get extensions to make it as tall as you need and still be aggressive on.

I learned this using the method Jamila describes in her videos. Start from the ground and try to position yourself into it. Once you’ve mastered it from the ground then climb the pole and try it.
I’ve found that having short shorts on so the side of my butt/thigh can press against the pole to hold in position. Its a bit of a balancing act. If the pole insn’t tacky enough sometimes its hard to hold the position.
Be careful or you’ll end up hurting yourself where the sun don’t shine https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I have a piercing where the sun don’t shine. I wonder if this move would cause the pole to rub up against that as I slide down. Ouchies!
I used to sport a piercing in my far southern regions…now that I’ve had some lady part area bruising from learning new moves, I’ve been wondering whether poling would have really ticked it off. I think I’m grateful that piercing’s lifespan didn’t overlap with my poling eek lol

I doubt it, she gets motion sick really easily she’d probably barf https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I remember the first whiff I got of my hair when I quit over a year ago…ohh man tasty https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Unfortunately I’m back on the bandwagon again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I stayed quit for about a year but man college is soooo bad for my smoking habits…all my friends (and I mean all. Literally every single one) smoke. Just got out of a 3 year relationship with a guy who smoked, and the guy I’m seeing now smokes worse https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif When I quit the first time, it was because I realized I was officially a 5 year smoker, because I started at 15. Now I’m realizing I will probably see the 10 year mark roll around and my head will spin when it does. I never thought at 15 that I ever could or would be a smoker of 5-10 years, but then again what the heck did I know at 15? Shows how much foresight I had, that’s kind of what happens! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
