Yes I definitely do cheat days and have wine and sweets! I’m just sharing what has finally worked for me after the past few years of doing low fat clean eating and training and cardio, HIIT training, you name it I tried it and my body fat would not budge…my adrenals we’re really shot out, cortisol levels too high and this is the only way my natural Dr. and I found that my body is super happy with, I’m a lot more healthy now. Breads, pastas and all sugars had to GO lol. Its definitely NOT for everyone, just what happened to really work to bring me to a sustainable level of health. Ketosis has worked for me but there are lots of body types it would probably be bad for :/ find what works for you is what I’m touting! 😉

Ketosis: it’s using fat instead of sugar for fuel. It’s not for everyone! You don’t cut out all carbs either. Veggies and fruits are my carbs. Takes discipline but again, I’m not giving nutritionist advice, just what has worked in my situation. Also, I have tons more energy now that I’m not depending on glucose! Read up on it if you’re interested. 😀

I’ve had the same issue with my belly and having fat in that area through research I’ve found it is usually a hormonal and too- much insulin problem for women my age I’m 40. When I switched to a ketogenic diet, cut out carbs except veggie and a little fruit also used intermittent fasting (keeps insulin spikes down and healed my hypoglycemia problem!) I was able in just a few weeks use my body’s own fat as fuel. I’m not a nutritionist or anything just needed to solve my problem! I follow Dr. Eric Berg (on YouTube) how to get your body safely and healthily into ketosis. He talks a lot about belly fat/overall body fat issues. Just my two cents 😉

Thanks so much for this thread Veena, it goes along with thoughts I’ve been having lately of all of these wonderful and beautiful routines filled with awe inspiring tricks…and then there’s me, still working through basic stuff.
I find the advanced tricksters inspiring although I’m not at that level…in fact, as you know Veena, you were helping me in Fresno work on my basic invert. ..so I try and focus on basic, beginner moves when I post any videos on my website. I get a lot of emails from girls that just want to know how to start on the pole, how to get strong enough to hold themselves up, ect. I ofcourse refer them to Veena and usually give them a link to watch my simple, basic easy routines.
Also, I get bored at times with some rotuines unless they include me, the audience. Hey, remember, I’m watching…why don’t you look my way? What about creativity off the pole? Just saying from the audience’s viewpoint. Great thread.

I know the feeling! I just started retraining starting from all the basics, nothing crazy. Lots of strength building like pole ups, using my pull up bar, lots of core work, walking, cycling, spins and stretching. Taking it easy on my pace so I can slowly ease back in because i hadnt poled in so long either. One day at a time, be patient with your self, enjoy the process.

Well said Tropicalpole…as for LightninWolf, do as she says – you will know when you are ready. I at the moment can still only kick into inverts which is wrong! But I am slowly retraining myself and practicing lots of tucking into inverts from the floor. Its coming slowly but surely. Doing LOTS of core strengthening moves like planks, reverse crunches and tucks on the pole. I can’t even tip myself back yet but I know its coming. Patience is a virtue and will possibly keep me from getting injured!

Visualizations are an extremely powerful too, I know that they have been tested with Olympic athletes before and the outcomes were incredible because of that nuero-muscular pathway that gets lit up during them visualizing going through their sport performance.

I talk about her throughout my site because i believe in what she is doing teaching correct and safe form so that we don’t injure ourselves. I appreciate that the most.

I have a copy that I downloaded when it was free for all of us of the Pole Fitness Association syllabus you can download it here http://www.learn-pole-dancing.com/names-of-pole-dance-tricks.html
Also, you can use the Pole DAnce Community syllabus for free as mentioned by Charley. http://www.poledancecommunity.com/
The Pole DAnce Dictionary is a pretty good free resource as well. I have a link to it here on my page http://www.learn-pole-dancing.com/pole-dance-freebies.html
Hope they come out with one standard book we can all use.

I am not sure what, besides fascination, drew me to poling. I picked up the SFactor book and I was drawn to the movements I could make with my body. I love the challenge, the movement, the sensuality of the dance style and the way that I can feel like I am someone else, like a goddess, a sexy creature when I am dancing. I just like how it makes me feel.

A door frame pull up bar is the best…I bought one from a Walmart for about 30.00 and it helped me to learn to pull up my body weight. I also used it for chin ups and ab work- hang from the bar and tuck your knees, sort of like a Roman Chair in the gym.

I haven't poled for about 10 months and found I had lost strength, coordination plus gained too much fat! So I have been walk/running (run 1 min, walk 4 for about 40-50 min) doing Veenas basic warm up and conditioning routine as a workout along with lots of stretching and some basic weight lifting just to get strength back so I am not so discouraged when I start doing spins/tricks again.
That's my plan for now and I know if you have a plan, stick to it the best you can, don't have too high expectations for yourself then you will reach your goal.
You can do it!!
