I work in the Development sector, for a humanitarian organisation. It's tough work and can be hard to take at times but knowing we are making a difference to people's lives is great. I also have a Bachelor degree in English and Art History and a Masters Degree in Medieval Literature and Old English.

I am looking at this thread because I'd like to know how best to maximise my workouts too. I was working out 2/3 times a week until I got a promotion in work. Now I haven't been to the gym in a MONTH and I've only been on my pole twice that whole time. I'm just tired and low on energy a lot and I work 9am-7pm so if I go to the gym at 7.30ish I find that I am far too awake and don't sleep well that night.

Finding it really hard to find a good balance now. Delighted with my new job skills but I am very tired, maybe I'm just in an adjustment phase. Any info on protein shakes or how to take creatine would be great. I need to get back into a fitness routine.. before it turns into another month of nothing. And I was really noticing results before I took this month off too, I hope it comes back fast. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Just on a side note to something written above, is Yaz banned in the US now? I take it everyday here in Ireland and I asked my doc about it and he said it's a very low dose pill and not to worry about it. If anyone has info that'd be great. Thanks x

You know that feeling when your skin has become a little dull and you know even your make up isn't sitting right because your skin needs to be wakened up a bit?  Well, if you have a party or date etc and haven't got a lot of time to find a remedy that works, sea salt, porridge oats and a tiny bit of squeezed lime juice makes a brilliant scrub to brighten the skin up. Massage into damp skin in circular motions and lace on lots of moisturiser after.

I used to work in Lush and lots of our brightening skin products contained either lemon, lime or salt! 🙂

I've been taking CLA but not diligently. I may finish off my packs properly soon.

The reason I stopped is because I find the tablets get everything in your gut moving about and gurgling. I have IBS anyway so found it a bit painful to take during a bad flare up. I don't think it's harmful at all and for a healthy belly it is probably quite good because it keeps things moving. My tummy was definitely less bloated when taking it. However, I couldn't hack the constant movement in my stomach so quit taking them til the IBS flare up faded.

The 40mm was bigger for me than I expected it to be. My hands STILL don't go the full way around it but I love it and it's far better for me for hand grip. If you already have bigger hands though maybe get the 45mm. If you're not having any major grip issues with the 50mm as it is, you'll probably find your grip on the 45mm to be amaaaazing! Enjoy

This is my (tiny) hand around a 40mm. https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/4f5fb5c1-91f8-4a7e-8a14-3da40ac37250

Drinking more water and taking regular exercise has done WONDERS for how my skin looks. No joke!! My skin is prone to getting litte dry patches and sometimes they itch like crazy. I  use a Tea Tree and Cocoa Butter moisturiser to heal up the dry skin.

I like the nutrogena 2 in 1 facial cleanser, it can be worn as a mask or just as a wash. It's very gentle but does the job. If my face needs brightening up I use Ocean Salt from Lush. (TRY IT!!) Don't over use it though, it is very strong but used ocassionally as a treat it is amazing.

For my everyday look, I use different colours from the Urban Decay Naked Pallette, it's so worth buying. I also use the black glitter ELF pencil to line my eyes. Maybellines Big False Lashes mascara is good BUT the brush lets the product down I feel, so I put it on and then use my brush from Benefit's 'They're Real' to coat it all over my lashes. This prevents clumping but gives nice thick, gorgeous lashes. Many, many people have complimented my eyelashes when I've done this.

(They're Real is also excellent BUT it is expensive and dries out FAR to quickly, Maybelline's is about a quarter of the price and is just as effective)

For lips I keep it natural, I use the Carmex moisture gloss. It's tiny and cute for in your pocket and puts a lovely sheen on my lips without adding colour. I use ELF lip colour if I'm going out.

I'm also another fan here for Urban Decay's primer lotion. I have the face and eyes one. I also highly recommend the Urban Decay make up setting spray. I was sceptical but it works like magic! 🙂

April 8, 2012 at 2:15 pm in reply to: at home laser hair removal

I started laser hair removal too because of ingrown hairs and razor burn. Shaving would irritate my skin so much I'd have to leave 2-3 days between shaves which was USELESS for me since I have thick, black hair that grows very quickly. In fact, if I shaved tonight, there would be a shadow on my skin by tomorrow.

Waxing is great, I'm a big fan of Brazilian waxes, however, along the bikini line would ALWAYS end up inflicted with ingrowns which would be angry and red looking and incredibly painful. Also the scars they leave last for months and longer!! I am finding the laser very, very painful though. In my clinic there is no numbing cream or 'cooling' feature on the machine. They just zap and go. The results are good but like I said before, it is a painful, uncomfortable journey for me. Thank God it's almost over 🙂

I'd like to try too but I am so stiff and inflexible and I feel like I do not stretch properly. So if there are any other absolute beginner stretchers looking to get in on this thread, gimme a shout! 🙂

April 5, 2012 at 10:50 am in reply to: Healing belly button piercing

I had the exact same issue as PowerTwirl and Krissy! Had it done, took forever to heal (in fact, I don't think it was ever 'fully' healed). It was always red and moist with some sort of goo. Sorry if TMI but it's true. My skin got thinner and thinner and while I was at a concert it ripped out through my skin. I decided to have it repierced a year later and it never healed. Again my skin began to get thinner and I knew the bar was going to come out. The stinging and hotness just wasn't worth it. I think sometimes your body just rejects piercings and because of the location of the bellybar I don't think it's that surprising that this one is commonly rejected.

It just doesn't work with everyone's body. Such a shame because I did LOVE having it done. My tongue bar is my new baby though and *touch wood* it doesn't cause nearly as many problems as my bellybar did.

  • thanks for that Steffie, will try that!

  • I tried to use this before but had nothing but problems even trying to open up the programme. I've installed the bloody thing twice and it won't open for me! Boo!
