Hey momma bear, I’m pretty new to poling too, I did one 6 week course last November and after the first two classes I was in agony, my muscles ached all over so much that I actually limped into uni the next day. I was SO out of shape. Since my course ended I’ve been keeping up some of the stretches and doing very light weights a few times a week (nothing drastic) and I thought I wasn’t doing enough to really be of any benefit to me. But lastnight I started a new pole course and as usual, the teacher warned us that we would be aching all over today. But I have no aches apart from my abs. They bloody hurt today!! But my arms, legs, shoulders etc feel great, not painful at all. I reckon the stretches I’ve been doing since my last course has kept my body from going back to square one again but the one place I NEVER work on (because I hate hate hate hate crunches) is my abs. However, lastnight my new instructor made us do an aerobic workout followed by 10 mins of crunches and today my tummy feel so delicate because the muscles just hadn’t been worked like that in a long time! I think my point is that I’m very new myself and already have seen a difference in my body, not a lot but enough that I’m not in agony today.

I don’t bruise a lot either but the first 2/3 weeks of my last course left my hands feeling very sore. They’d look all red and the skin would feel pulled but I don’t have any of that this time either! So like you.. here’s hoping I can get fit/tone etc. My observations so far tells me that there can be changes if I put the effort in. I just have to stay disciplined. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Good luck with the pole journey, I’m sure we’ll bump into eachother here looking for advice many times! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_dwarf.gif

This is actually not a simple spin at all. I don’t teach this spin to my student until they are intermediate.
Oooh okay, well that makes me feel better then, it was in a beginner class that we were shown this one, I think it was the 4th class. Then the next class was climbing the pole and the last one was sitting on the pole and turning one move into another one. (dunno if there’s a name for that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif ) Then after that class we could decide if we wanted to join the intermediate one or not.

Thanks Georgiamarie, I’ll keep on trying! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

For weeks our entire class just had their back legs dragging along the floor until we finally managed to lift them up!
    Best mental image… EVER!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif x

    Hey Linda,

I’m new too, I only joined this week. Glad to see more newbies posting too, it’s great the way there’s such a range of experience here. There are absolute beginners and pro dancers posting all together here. It’s great!

Look forward to getting to know you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

That is exactly how my instructor showed me too. There was no low hand at all and she said for the first few tries to just hook your leg and fall until your straight leg comes in contact with the pole. I can do it very slowly but I honestly feel like if I used ANY momentum that I’d break my knee. I think I’m just not bringing my straight leg up which is exactly what you said. I’m glad someone else has found this move a bit difficult too, I think I’m just too afraid! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

Yeah thanks for the forum veena!

My burn is beginning to go away too, (though I haven’t been on my pole in a few days so don’t mark my words just yet) but the last time I climbed up to the top which was fun. And I also sat up for a few seconds, that probably sounds like nothing but the first few times I had to get off straight away, so staying up for 30 seconds is an achievement for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Now I can climb up and sit with my legs crossed so here’s hoping for more improvements from here on. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I try to take a lot of inspiration from fleur, because not only is she  tall like me, which can really be a disadvantage.

Oooh really? Is being tall a slight disadvantage?

I only ask because I am a bit worried about how I look pole dancing because of my height, I’m tiny, like under 5 feet, I really am a fairy in that respect! :p But I was worried because all the great dancers I see seem to have legs that go on forever and they look so cool on the pole. Does height really make a difference?

    (say it isn’t so! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif )

BTW – My pole crushes are Alethea Austin and Felix. They give me goosebumps!

hehe you’re right poleophile, it really has become an obsession. So cool to have other people here who are the same because those who have not yet been bitten by the pole bug don’t seem to get it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Trena, I’m in Dublin so not far from Wexford at all. You’re a pole dance mummy I see – that is verrrry cool! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Are there many beginners from Ireland here?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone!

I have seen already that there are more Irish users here, I can’t believe it! Delighted!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    I wish I had have found studioveena.com sooner. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

PS – thanks for the name compliment tiggertail, I was going to use polesíog (because síog is the Irish word for fairy) but it didn’t work, so I used polefairy!) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
