Real sorry to hear about your break up. Funnily enough I started poling to sort of reclaim myself from the damage of a bad break up. The guy was so horrible to me and it was only about a year later that I started to realise ''actually, he did treat me badly'' but by then my confidence in myself and my looks, personality, everything was so low. My weight dropped down rapidly and strands of my hair started falling out. I remember looking in the mirror and I felt like I was nothing but a shadow of myself, I could see my ribs and hated it as it was so unintentional. I started looking after myself better and eventually gave into my curiosity to try pole classes. My first class was so difficult, pole climbs and falling forward spins in the first two hours was just too intense for a beginner but it made me see how strong my body had the potential to be. One thing I instantly loved about pole was that it didn't matter one bit what you looked like or what you've been through, there were so many achievable, tiny victories to be won every single time I poled. Whether it was perfecting a new move or even just getting closer to achieving it. In a way, it refocused me on something very tangible  and something I had control over. I know it's so hard right now because you probably feel like you've lost part of your own self now that he's gone but start reclaiming yourself back bit by bit. Put on your favourite shoes, turn up your favourite song and even just walk, pose, pause around the pole. I have a feeling you won't be able to keep yourself off of it once you get started. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Keep smiling and dancing!

Is it hard to get used to using? Is it difficult to insert at first?

I just avoided moves that made my tattoos make any contact with the pole until it had healed. Within 2 weeks you'll deffo be fine again and I can't see any reason for the tattoo to stretch at all. I got a new one a few months back too. Yay for pretty tattoos! Please post some pics guys. I'd love to see https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Oh yay I use twitter too but it's pretty boring as most of my friends don't have an account. I also post pole pics there. Feel free to follow! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I HAVE to interrupt here. Jenn, I seen your performance here and it was excellent. In fact, when your dance was being shown I even made a comment in chat about how much I liked your style. It really was very good and very clear that you practise a lot. Don't feel bad, feel proud 🙂

I always blamed my hips being tight for being the reason I find splits stretching so tedious but recently after taking a stretching class I discovered that it is my hamstrings that are so tight. So if any of you guys have any tips for strething very tight hamstrings, please help. I should have known the problem wasn't solely down to my hip flexors as I have had acupressure, acupuncture etc for tight and painful hamtstrings in the past. I have no clue about flexibility and stretching but I was happy to learn that my hips are actually normal! Now to sort out my hamstrings!  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

''I Have placed some of these more difficult moves in beginner because they are strength builders….if you can't hold your own body weight you should not be doing spins!''

I was not critisizing you for putting it in the beginner section, I was saying I'm disappointed myself for not being able to do it. Also, in relation to holding your own body weight and spins etc, I can hold myself up in many of the other holds and strenght exercises so it probably is down to poor technique here.

Yeah I find this hard too. I can do a fair few of the intermediate moves here on the lessons but cant manage the thigh rest from standing, at all, which sucks because its listed as beginner here and I feel crap about not being able to do it. In Veena's lessons she makes it look so easy and effortless but when I try it feels impossible! I can also do it in the air but not from the floor Dustbunny, it is very weird indeed!

I think for a beginner lessons at a studio are great! They'll definitely be beneifical provided you go to a good studio!

I hurt my hamstring a few months back and was told to rest it as much as possible but of course even after a few days of rest, the day to day wear and tear of walking to and from work, walking up stairs etc all prevented the pain from fully going away. I ended up in agony for close to three weeks so I gave accupuncture a try. I remained sore all that day but woke up the next morning with no hamstring pain at all (my skin hurt from the accupressure massage) but the injury seemed to have healed overnight. I heard injuries to the hamstring are prone to returning a few times a year but at least I know something works if it happens again. Maybe you could look into it for your back if it doesn't heal soon.

It's a real shame you can't get the video you're looking for. I do remember seeing Alethea's handcuff performance and I'm sure it was on youtube, it was AMAZING. Like I remember feeling goosebumps and my tummy tightening up during some of her routine, it was so excellent. But now when I try find it I can't so it must have only been up for a short time. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
