I have two daughters, 15 and 14. the girls are very supportive and see pole for what it is, self expression and dance. While my younger daughter is not interested in learning, my older daughter has been using my pole to practice quick turns and stretching for a long time. I took her to a statewide amateur competition two weeks ago, and shes been in my room learning some basic spins and conditioning ever since. I personally encourage my girls to explore every age appropriate avenue their hearts desire. It creates women with strong self esteem and a courageous outlook on life. I would be pleased to see a local studio offer some classes geared toward the younger generation. After all, they seem to be more mature about the concept of pole dance than most people my own age.

I was thinking the same thing last night when one of my boys was stretched out on the base of the pole as I slid down pretty fast and headfirst from a scorpio/gemini switch attempt. luckily, no fuzzy butts were injured during my epic fail lol.

Lol, girl I can relate! I started pole last October. my sister called me up and said ‘ lets try this pole class m see how badly we suck’. I was the heaviest girl in the class. zero flexibility, zero muscle tone. I loved it, reguardless, and continued on. I did push ups and sit ups when I didn’t have a class, and before ya know it,.BAM! a wrist seat! the key to success… don’t give up, and reward yourself when you accomplish something. I started with veenas lessons on quick turns, floor work, etc
just to get familiar with moving around the pole, and building strength. pole uses muscles I didn’t even know I had, and the best way to strengthen them is pole dilegence.
ive lost a few lbs, but, I am strong. I kid with my nephews and tell them I could snap a body in half with my thighs. they laugh, I’m serious.I’ve never felt so freaking STRONG. now that me and my margarita machine have ended our love affair, watch these lbs fly off!

I’m in the Dallas area, lonestar. I train at a great studio here that offers drop in classes. 15$ if you find yourself in the area give me a shout. I’ll be happy to take a beginner class with you! it’s always more fun to pole with a buddy.

I love my foam roller.I get sore everytime I climb, and practicing the caterpiller makes my shoulders and back scream for mercy the next day. the foam roller acts as a massage therapist, you controlling the amount of pressure. a blessing for sore muscles. An added bonus is what it does for tight hamstrings. I use it to help release the psoas and hammies, and I’m literally one inch away from splits now. I could ramble on forever on the different body parts positivelY affected since I got mine. I started off with a really basic roller,it came with the foam roller video I got when I purchased Leannes strength and conditioning set. I’m beyond pleased with all the videos, and highly recommend them.

I’m in too. I need to drop 25 lbs like yesterday. I eat well, under 1200, and I exercise my booty off. so, I’m 99.9 percent sure alcoholic beverages are keeping me chunky. so my 100 day challenge is no alcohol except on saturday, limit two, must be a diet version. maybe ten lbs will be my goal. I think thats reasonable.

  • dayum autocorrect. seperation not deportation wtf… 🙂

  • oops totally didn’t see veena had already touched on muscle deportation. I agree with her lol

  • Dont believe the hype! if your stomach muscles didnt separate during pregnancy, you can totally get those abs back. I had three c sections. my lower abdominal muscles (from the navel down) actually separated due to butcher block old school vertical c section. you can tell by placing your fingers on the bottom of your navel and press in. if your muscles are separated u can feel iy. also, when u do a crunch, your lower ab muscles form s peak,/\

I’m totally showing this thread to my instructor tonight. she struggles with aysha elbow grip, but her forearm grip is good. I told her screw the elbow grip, forearm looks just as pretty and doesn’t cause her any shoulder pain.

in reguard to the children aspect and concerns I’d like to share my own experience. My sister and I both pole. Between the two of us, we have seven biological children, and two we adopted from the neighborhood. they range from 16 to 18 months, mostly teenagers, mostly boys. My two teenage daughters and I have a very open dialogue rule concerning sex, sexuality, and being who you are reguardless of societal norm. Americans are so very sex fixated, but refuse to openly converse with the younger generation about it. very odd, but it is what it is.
with that being said, in my family, we tackle the stigma issue by eliminating it from the equation in the raising of our kids. the boys all have a healthy respect for dance, pole, burlesque, and they have the facts to separate that from gentleman’s club entertainment. no snickering or snide commentary from the kids when we pole practice. Ive even heard them educating other kids about it being a sport. I live in texas, the stigma here is pretty nasty. Im proud we can exist in our homes, my sister and I, with out that stress.
I’m also very sorry to hear about your marital issues. I agree with the others, you have to do what feels right for you and your family, hopefully without sacrificing your own sense of self in the process. good luck to you, and, we are here if you need some positive reinforcement!

my favorites as of today are jenyne, toy laster from candy and chrome, kira m from climb spin, fya starta and veena. I love a smooth performance. if you have never seen Kira’s you tube video “speechless” you should see it. she moves so elegantly and sensually I was holding my breath! I signed up for pole classes after I saw her video. its not all about the tricks for me,its the whole presentation.
