MemberApril 1, 2010 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Am I the Only One who Feels this Way? Please HELP!Ohhhhh, so, so, so, SO many times I feel like I get in my own way. I have the strength to do things, I have the know-how to do things, I have the skill to do things…but I need to work around my body in order to do them, and it feels IMPOSSIBLE sometimes!!!!! For example, I got into superman a few times one night–and I am beginning to think it was a total fluke because I haven’t been able to repeat it consistently, and you know why? THIGH MEAT, woman. THIGH MEAT. I stick to the pole, and flipping that hip just does not want to happen, and by the time I get the hip flipped, I am so frustrated and sweaty that I lose my grip. With other tricks it’s other parts of my body.
Of course, that thigh meat comes in really handy with some things, and then I praise it heartily and lurve it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
But whether you are tricking or not, you are one of my favorite dancers to watch. The second (literally) I saw you post your youtube screen name, I subscribed, because you are mesmerizing and beautiful on the floor AND on the pole. So don’t sell yourself short on that, K?

Being strong enough to do a handstand is a big part of learning to invert, IMO, because it goes back to having an exit strategy, just in case your leg grip gives out, or you’re slippery, or whatever. Tuck and roll is one exit strategy (great if you have a mat, tougher if you’re on bare floor!). When you don’t have a mat, being able to simply put your hands down and support yourself with your arms until you sort your legs back out is always important.
Good for you for slowing down! Safe poling for everyone!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif (I have been ITCHING to use that smiley)

If I let it be thus, Etsy could be singlehandedly responsible for the downfall of my paltry retirement account.
Have you looked at the corsets there? Lush, delectable, luxurious custom corsets. Come. to. mama. -
Haha, I always forget about the simple stuff! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif In my head there is always some BIG reason I’m not getting something….never mind the cold pole or slippery grip or whatnot, lol.
Excellent points, Ms. Veena!

Sometimes it’s a matter of getting enough skin to have a lock so your muscles *can* grip, at least until you get a feel for things. For instance, when I started doing the inverted thigh hold, I would make sure that the free leg would go down and across the pole, giving it a nice firm grip even before my muscles engaged. Then, once I clamped on, I could stay in that position forever. It’s the same with the Drama Queen and other thigh holds, for me at least. Move leg down (or up, depending on how your body is positioned) and across the pole as you engage. Hope this helps!

I wear a true 7.5 but buy 8 in the Pleasers, even in the clear plastic ones. The problem is (and it is a REAL problem because I loves me some clear shoes), once the plastic stretches a little bit, my toes start to moosh out over the outside. It’s super attractive. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I don’t have particularly wide feet, but I do have longish toes, and this is what creates the problem, I think. My black Pleasers don’t do this at all, but then again they don’t stretch the way the clear ones do, either.
Ankle strap here all the way, for the wise reasons already mentioned. It’s bad enough that my critters run for the hills when I strap on my shoes–I’d hate to send a shoe flying and hit them when they thought they were far enough away to be safely out of harm’s way!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
