I side climb both ways mentioned (my most recent vid has the both-legs-at-once side climb in it, about halfway-ish through), and prefer the one where both legs come up at once. As chemgoddess and amy said, you need to be able to do a side hold PLUS keep your body away from the pole so your legs have freedom of movement. And ditto on the strong kneepit grip, you need for that to be secure in order to have the pushing power with that leg. A one-legged side climb (using only bottom foot to push) would be a true toughie. 😉

Got money tucked . . . somewhere . . . while dancing on a pole (and not in a strip club lol)
Wore booty shorts under a skirt when going out because you knew you'd be upside down at some point.

High or low, it sounds like we’ve all enjoyed our lives! 🙂 -
So many good tips here! I recently taught an hour-long class that was exclusively pirouettes. They're not easy to do effortlessly!
Be aware of where your center of gravity is at all times. It should flow down through the ball of your foot as you turn and you should maintain that center through the entire pirouette.
And ditto what other posters have said. 🙂

If you don't have lots of hamstring strength, a SERIOUS calf/shin grip (no thigh at all) in crucifix, and good upper body strength it's not only going to be frustrating, but it will also be dangerous.
Keep bustin' on your inverted crucifix until it's rock solid, then practice pushing your body out with both arms. If that's easy (ie you have the upper body strength), work on pushing out while you pull up with your hamstrings and butt. Then you'll have the basis of the caterpillar.

EG aysha, technically, has torso angled away from pole–because the EG should rely on balance/counterbalance/core to hold in place. When the torso's right up against the pole, I usually see that as lacking some necessary engagement, whether it's the shoulders or elbow/bicep or core ……

The ones you mentioned … plus spinning scorpio, EG anything to shooting star to marley, or cupid, or knee hold. Outside leg hang climb up over into cupid or hood ornament then to teddy, then invert. Also try CAR to brass monkey, that's a fun one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Are you watching your feet/the pole? If so, STOP. You can't tilt back if your head is up–you need to look for the wall behind you. Pull down on the pole, let your head drop back, and get your hips close to the pole.
Lyme Lyte's right that there's a LOT of advice on various threads and videos here. Good luck! It's not as easy as the pros make it look! 🙂

I will likely get one autographed… my other Jamilla-signed heel recently broke while I was doing a Remi layback. Boo! At least it gave out while I was doing something cool lol.

The studio is SUPER close to lots of great restaurants . . . and one of best ice cream shops in the area. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

How awesome are you??? I *love* it!!!

Yep, I'll be there with my un-bendy splits. I am 4-5 inches away so unless I make big leaps in the next two weeks, my split work will be non-split-work work.
I'm in Pole Essence and the Advanced workshops.
Hooray, I am looking forward to meeting you!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I trained like a maniac before my workshop/private with Jamilla last year. There's a fine line between training just enough and overtraining, though–and I almost crossed that line.

I dance in my Pleasers alllll the time and haven't ruined them yet. I have a pair that's 4 years old, has been danced in probably 3x/week. Recently glittered them to change them up a little, and they're still going strong.
