Sorry to hear about suck a crappy experience! It’s really not your instructors place to judge what you may/may not occur out of class. It’s her job simply work with you (as you are) and be creative for ways to help & inspire- it sounds like she hindered instead. I don’t really think it is her place to judge/attack based on something you have going on privately. It also sounds like she took out a lot of her personal frustrations on you but I guess that doesn’t really need to be discussed!
As an instructor I would have done two things about the performance. The first, is simply asked if you still wanted to perform or if you wanted to wait until you increased your endurance & were able to get through the full thing (no judgement, either is fine).
If you still wanted to perform but didn’t feel confident doing the full song, I would have remixed a song truthfully. You can edit and adjust songs pretty easily now a days and it would have enabled you to chose how long you felt comfortable with dancing. Kind of the best of both worlds, you get something so unique but at the same time is custom for how long you feel confident dancing for.
I really am sorry to hear about your experience, I really hope you have someone else to look to for future help 🙂 keep at it

I’ve had a lot of arm/wrist pain in the last few months! I finally figured out why.
While I am strong, I learned twisted grip long before other holds (cup & true). Unfortunately, with TG you are unable to really contract the arm and use strength to support you, it is more of a “dead hang” which is what causes the arm pain.
I’ve had to lay of TG for the last few months, focus on training my other grips so that my arm & shoulder are strong enough to activate during the “pull” of handsprings. Once you do that, TG makes a bit more sense and it takes some pressure off, but your rotator cuff is still in an unnatural plane of motion – be careful. Hope that helps!

One of the biggest reasons for low back pain is simply postural problems. We are daily in a flexed position (sitting and leaning forward) and over time it has tightened everything on the front and weakened everything on the back. I don’t know you so maybe this isn’t it but it’s where I have many of my clients start. Stretch things like pecs, anterior deltoids and quads/hip flexors and start to strengthen the posterior chain (back muscles, glutes etc). Good Luck!

I find that when my students struggle with this aspect they are not pulling into the invert enough. What happens is they invert but not all the way up – essentially trapping the hand understand knee and having half their belly off the pole. Having them pull their bodies up the pole- driving the hips to the ceiling- will lengthen the body to the pole and connect in the back of the arm.
Hope that makes sense 🙂 -
Hey Aerial Gypsy!
The thing I have learned about twisted grip is that it is an alternative. Meaning, you should develop the strength necessary to do a proper shoulder mount & handspring before using twisted grip.
Since TG places your shoulder in an unnatural position it tends to be a bit easier to `hang`from versus `pull`from. Once you master the other grips and develop sufficient TG becomes a bit more safe because you know and understand how to activate the muscles needed.
I unfortunately learned this the hard way as I learned everything from TG first and have the injuries to show from it. I still use TG but I no longer have pain because I am not relying on the grip but my strength – hope that all makes sense!!

MemberOctober 12, 2013 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Pole Dance Studio losing monthly members – is it seasonal or omething else?Personally, September is my slowest month. I own a pole dancing business but have an in home studio so thankfully don't have too much over head… if I did, Septembers would kill me.
My year normally goes as follows: really strong start in January which slowsl down around March (new years group. I am then very busy through the summe rmonths and slow down in September when scheduled return. I pick up again at the end of October for people wanting some Christmas prep.
This could simply be because I am also a trainer so I am busy during typical "weight loss" times of year. Normally, when I am slow I offer my promos (refer a friend, 2 for one etc) and I do them at the same time each year and only then.
Another option is to organize more open houses or "teasers" to at least try and get people in the door.
Hope that helps!

I have similar ones called strength wraps (for lifting & pole!) but they look to be the same thing. I absolutely adore mine and they have made such a difference. I tried quite a few before I settled on these ones but I love how simple they are but how much support they can provide with just a twist 🙂

I've also heard that you have to "dispute it". Which is not something I want to do everytime I post. I think I get frustrated because I'm not sure how it's done and what the actual problem is.
Like Lina said, I've uploaded and within 3 seconds it's been flagged, though there is only a song on in the background, or just the instrumental version.
Thanks for the help though!

Oh my god this is my biggest pet peeve!!! Mainly because when I do demos I have a song in the background which makes it "matched third party content" and none of my clients can view it on mobile.
I've recently been putting "Music:What I wouldn't do – Serena Rider
I do not own the rights to this song" etc in the description and that seems to help… now only 1/5 of my videos get flagged.I'm not really sure how or why it works (it drives me nuts) but so far that's working the best for me.. any other help would be awesome!

Hi Ruby,
Sorry to hear you're having a rough go with the medication. I suffered from severe depression when I was younger and it was terrible. I originally tried quite a few anti-depressants & anxiety medications before I quit all together.
I'm probably going to sound like an crazy person but hear me out. Have you thought about talking to a naturopath or going in that direction? I'm not saying they can 100% fix the problem or that you're not trying everything possible already, I just know how much taking a hollistic approach can sometimes help.
I guess the reason I'm suggesting it is that I found all the medications I tried only made something else worse. I gained weight, was sluggish and exhausted, my blood worked was ridiculous and sometimes I was just plain too stoned to function. Those kinds of medication solve one problem but create three more sometimes.
I did, eventually overcome my depression. I know it's not the same as a personality disorder but maybe there is a middle ground?
Anyways, whatever you try and decide good luck. Keep fighting and stay positive.. it's worth it 🙂

I had this problem last month and it turns out it is pretty common. Two things are possibly wrong. The first is that the joist in the middle is "jammed". When this happens every time you spin on the pole it moves and bit by bit comes down from the wall (which is obviously unsafe). If this is the problem you have to take it down and unj- am it with a broom (no joke)- check out the instructions :
http://candy-chrome.co.uk/uncategorized/taking-care-of-your-x-pole/
If you're sure it's not jammed. Ensure that the three screws at the bottom under the cover slip are tightened. They loosen every so often and just need to be check.
Hope that helps!

Alright so I made a trip to the chiropractor and my RMT yesterday and my SI is coming along very nicely… however in jamming it I strained my piriformis as well – which is what is causing the lack of ROM and pain in my butt. The reason I strained it is because… wait for it… I have over dominant glutes and use them too much ! lol Which is completely understandable as I already knew it would be an overuse injury.
So basically I've been advised to "listen to my body" and simply work with that. Obviously it is still a bit inflammed as while I have been taking it easy I am still teaching and training – so the recovery process is going to be a fun one 😛

Bah lol yea I'm trying my best not to "play through the pain". I'm actually a certified strength coach so I do know this.. it's just not what I want to hear I guess.
I'm happy that the pain is receding from daily activities but the thought of even trying to get into my splits is petrifying (that's what popped it). I'll chat to the chiropractor today and see what he says. I just really want to get into a nice deep stretch. When I chatted to him the first time I learned I already do all the corrective exercises for it- as I naturally have dislocating hips- so I can continue to do that, hopefully it will ease up shortly.

I got married this past July and I kind of know what you mean. My whole philosophy was that no one has the "perfect" wedding day. There will always be something amiss- going in with that attitude I didn't stress too much. There are a few pictures I wish I would have gotten but other than that I can't complain.
This sounds cliche but the best advice is to simply focus on the positives. The day is what you made it. Did you still have a good day? Were you super happy to be marrying your best friend? Were you able to celebrate? Think of all the wonderful things that that day was (maybe even write them down) and say F*** It and laugh off the rest.
Then, take any dissapointment/sadness you have left and work it out on the pole;)
