I sincerely hope so, it’s just one of those things I’d really like to conquer. I’m already getting close to the front splits and will get there soon but this move has always eluded me so of course I want to get it simply because I can’t haha
Plus I need a photo like this of me grinning ridiculously while doing something super hard hehehe -

MemberMay 15, 2015 at 8:17 am in reply to: How to train for a seated straddle press with no strength? Thanks 🙂 Yeah, it’s been rough- I had a pelvic osteotomy to help fix my hip dusplasia but I had very unusual complications and didn’t heal properly so spent 1 1/2 years on crutches and then on a walking cane (which I still use sometimes).
I get paid next week so I will finally have my years subscription so hopefully there will be exercises outlined that I can do to help strengthen my left leg (It’s flexible, just weak) and my core.
I mean, I can do an invert already on the pole, but there’s definitely areas where I have zero strength :p
Thanks for your help- it never occurred to me that the split muscles would be a problem- my daughter’s 11 now but AFAIK my muscles never healed after my pregnancy- even though she was only 2.5lbs when she was born so it’s not like I got big or anything… just one of those things I guess.
I’ll also ask my GP if he knows of things I could do to help. -

I also had a 5cm wide hernia in my pelvic wall fixed last year after they managed to herniate the whole area doing extensive plating and bone grafts after my pelvis was broken in 3 places and refused to heal.
So I had my caesarian scar reopened for the hernia repair and my lower belly is definitely weak now.
I also had the split during pregnancy even though I was working 4 nights a week pole dancing and was fit and even slightly underweight, so bad luck on my part I guess.
I’m dealing with a pelvis that looks like this inside now :\
It’s kinda fucked my body up tbqh but I so desperately want to get my strength back… -

Thanks Veena 🙂
I was thinking these rings look good- simple but still require strength, plus I thought maybe the shape would give me more ways to grip it (different finger positions and such).
Plus they’re super cheap which is always a bonus 😉

I can absolutely appreciate the artistic not so sexy stuff but I will always gravitate to the more sensual side of pole dancing because that’s what I know best.
But yeah, it was funny- I can *see* where my mind goes “whoops! keep it clean!” with my hand on my leg hahaha -

It’s nice to see some stuff coming back so fast- I kinda got a bit despondent when I didn’t immediately have great grip and form.
I’m an instant graification type of gal, so the pole just stood there for a good week and I would simply try to hold myself up for a second throughout the day if I remembered.
But already it’s starting to improve so I’m all excited now 😉 -
Breathing is definitely a big one- I blog about nail polish and do stamping and mani’s almost daily and always hold my breath when trying to do something delicate and don’t realise til I’ve let it out, so I’m practicing trying to be more aware.
I don’t get belly breathing though- I know how to stabilise my core by kinda pushing my belly out and holding it (I used to do powerlifting and it’s necessary when deadlifting 80kgs for reps) but IDK how to belly breathe and not have my gut push out :p
As for the rest- I think I have good-ish flow but it took me time to learn to sloooooow things down (and I’m still a fast dancer unless I’m tired) and just remembering the basics like extend the legs, point the toes etc.
Try and hold your fingers as if you’re watching something drip delicately off them when you’re not using them, try to use your arms as well as the rest of your body…
I *love* the idea of imagining you’re underwater, that’s a brilliant tip. -
The general rule of thumb is to go up a size for boots because you will be wearing socks and the toe is closed 🙂

MemberMay 14, 2015 at 7:57 am in reply to: Gah! can’t embed my freestyle video- will try againThanks 🙂 An old skirt I used to wear at work, the only thing that still fits- it was either that or just my knickers haha
Next time I will remember to put some Dry Hands on first too so I can actually grip the pole properly 😉
It’s funny because I went to run my hand up my leg and mentally went “oops! my kid is filming this for me and I’m not in the club any more!” so I kinda did this awkward thing at the start as I realised I had to keep the raunch out of my dancing… not easy when you’re used to going the other way lol -

MemberMay 14, 2015 at 7:04 am in reply to: Gah! can’t embed my freestyle video- will try againThanks so much Andrea.
I danced in clubs for years so I have some experience but it’s been at least 6 years since I did so with any regularity. I’m now 43 and am, of course, my own worst critic.
It’s hard seeing how unfit I look but it’s nice to find the moves coming back so soon even if my strength has a very long way to go.
It’s funny, I can apply body acceptance to pretty much everyone but myself :p
But I’m feeling motivated so that always helps and my body should return to close to pre-surgery the more I dance (I hope!) 🙂 -

MemberMay 14, 2015 at 2:01 am in reply to: any aussie girls had their poles powder coated?Just wanted to add I called a couple of other places and between $40-80 depending on the colour is what it costs around here to powder coat a chrome pole that is around 2550mm long (3 sections).
I’m stoked, it’s a lot cheaper than I thought it would be, so good news for us Aussie gals 🙂 -

MemberMay 13, 2015 at 9:22 pm in reply to: any aussie girls had their poles powder coated?Hi Michaela (hope I spelled that right) I love your user name, reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail 🙂
I emailed a place down where I live and was quoted only $40 which first piqued my interest and then made me really suss… I am always a bit leery of good news 😉
I’m going to give them a call and see what they say, I am not sure if I can get different types of finishes that might be slicker or more grippy, but I’ll let you know if there are those sorts of options.
I do know a lot of what I’m facing wrt grip is down to not having that strength like I used to but I definitely struggle more on chrome than I do on brass.
And there’s definitely a part of me wants to get it powder coated simply because it will look amazing (plus I live in a coastal town so the air here is pretty corrosive too).
But I don’t want to end up with a pole that is super grippy until I start to sweat and then start slipping all over the place.
I’m thinking maybe I should wait until June/July and see if I can still snag a brass pole insert, otherwise I will definitely look at getting my chrome pole coated… either lime green or purple, IDK which yet but am leaning towards purple because hey! it’s an awesome colour! 😀
Either way I’m going to ring around and get some more quotes so I’ll let you know how that all goes 🙂
