Students trouble with gemini poc’shere’s a short little video I made several months ago to show my students…it goes kinda fast but you can pause it to see the tips/placement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYkdQ7dfpaM Often students have a hard time getting the pole in the pocket, as you said. It tends to be up on the ribs/crossing toward the front of the body.

It feels terrible! I can’t figure out WHY it’s so difficult on the other side. So I get mad about that. 😉
I worked (work) on EG and SG simultaneously, so I’d say go ahead and try. Sure, go ahead and try straightedge in them too! Yes, legs bent and out is rubber aysha. I didn’t feel comfortable trying that one for quite awhile (but mostly I don’t have a spotter either so your mileage may vary). If you DO have a spotter, I would definitely enlist their help for that one. I do that with EG only. GL!!

Hm-I have never seen or thought of trying that. I know you can push out into a twisted grip aysha from reverse aysha.
It seems possible….!

I would love to have a home studio, but not only do I not have the space, IF I did, it would need to be separate, somehow, because of the liability issues as VB said. With regards to insurance, the agent could direct you as well. MAKE SURE AERIALS ARE COVERED. Very few companies cover aerials.

Amen, Charley and ditto.
Pole is a VERY tough business, a very niche market…and not everyone that tries it will stick with it so there’s the constant attrition factor of students, especially with new instructors that are learning to teach. I was always and still am learning as a teacher, but with more experience my student retention rate was very high.
PS-I am ‘on my own’ now too, Charley, and I totally agree about the compensation and wanting to do things my own way. 🙂

**I mean cartwheel. I get confused too!
I count moves as nemesis when they cause me issues. When I know what I *need* to do and I just *can't*, & I've been working on it for some time (flexy is what I struggle with), it's a nemesis.
Video would be extremely helpful!

My tips…first, have you video'd yourself practicing this? The vids don't lie, and might help you see what you THINK you're doing vs. what you're actually doing.
Have you tried cartwheels? Maybe that would click for you and in turn help you handspring.
Can you aysha? I learned aysha first before I ever tried handspring. I don't KNOW that it's necessary but I think it's tremendously helpful, because once you spring up there it feels familiar.
Have you tried both sides?
For me personally…I don't get fixated on nemesis moves. I have nemesis moves of course, but those are the ones I revisit here and there and see if they finally just click. So it takes time…lots of time. So much of our pole learning (esp these advanced moves) has to happen organically. Your subconscious/muscle memory needs time to mull it over and figure it out….so working on other moves definitely helps when it's time to get those.
In my case…handspring was not a nemesis (let me point out that this is rare, I tend to acquire moves pretty slowly). But I had been working on asyshas, handstands, elbowstands, ex butterflies, etc etc….moves that require that inverted core balance. One day in practice I just went for it and it clicked.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head. GL!

No, but I love birth and toyed with the idea once (as well as midwifery). Love it and congrats!!
