Your question is a little vague…do you mean continuous dancing? Or a pole practice (working on moves, conditioning, etc)? i can pole for hours that way, but not sure how long I can pole DANCE continuously as I sure haven't tried 20 min straight!

I think they are just known by different names. Here in the US they are known the same as you learned them, so I’m not sure where geographically the difference lies. Everyone should learn both sides for moves. Just because its demo’d one way doesn’t mean the other way shouldn’t also be learned.

@villian, I don't feel bad for her. In my past life I was a writer, and heat is something you expect if you're writing about anything controversial. Also, she mentions she was in a studio that had poles, right? So she has already had a chance to try a class. And due to the wonders of the 'net, if she bothered doing any real research, she would have seen competitions. She just chose ignorance. 😉

I actually don't even know what 'grinding the pole' even MEANS. Is that, like, rubbing your crotch on it? FOR REAL, that's what people think? good lord.

Wow. How does she justify $150 an hour? Is she a 'pro'?

Does she offer privates? Privates would take you to the next level without having to travel so far. Though you could supplement with traveling to the other studio too (and of course serious practice on your own).

just gotta say…thank goodness for youtube, as opposed to fb! I uploaded a short video to fb–twice–and both times it was taken down due to copyright violation. Youtube has NEVER taken down one of my videos.

I get that…but I thought we were talking about just playing music for personal dancing, which is why I wondered why paying fees to BMI and ASCAP was brought up, because I thought I was missing something.

    What do you mean, Trixie?
I’ve only had music pulled when I announce the artist. If I announce the song title it may be blocked on mobile. I try to stay generic in descriptions.

    I don't think there would be a name for it! It's a transition from a move to a move….

I think most of the time people post their best stuff. 😉 Am I ever COMPLETELY happy with anything I put up? Nope. I always pick out stuff that could be better. But I sure don't post videos where I spend 10 minutes looking *extremely* awkward trying different moves, wiping the pole, staring at the pole, etc.

The best way to get better at liking what you see on camera is to video yourself often. As a teacher once told me, 'the camera doesn't lie'. It's all there, the good the bad the ugly. The goal is to get the good to outweigh the rest!

Also…I have quite a few hoop and pole fb friends, and while my fb pole profile is pretty much ALL POLE (I created it specifically for me to geek out about pole with those who get it), I do find myself annoyed with those hoop friends/acquaintances who ONLY talk about hoop on their regular page. I mean, they relate everything to the hoop. I actually used to do that, now I figure everyone knows what I do and they'll bring it up to me if they're interested. 🙂

I don't generally talk about pole unless it's with people who 'get it'. I don't feel compelled to talk about it, I figure 'what is the point?'. It would be like a martial artist trying to engage me in what they do and why they love it. My eyes might glaze over b/c I don't really care. 😉
