That's too bad. I don't understand pole drama…and believe me in becoming part of my local pole community I've been involved in it unwittingly. Unfortunately, there seems to be drama in ALL circles (I'm also a hooper and have been involved in it there too, sadly).

How did the studio owner communicate her upset to you?

If it were me (and not knowing the exact situation) I would question whether it was worth it to continue at the studio (e–do I like my teacher/classmates/progression etc)…or whether I should continue poling solely 'at home.' Probably only you can answer that.

I'm personally fine with my students going to other studios, in fact I have a hard time saying 'my students' because I certainly don't own them or want to control them, but I do feel a lot of affection for them and want them to be safe and avoid injury. I feel like there's this balance between pushing physical limits and being unsafe/having students who are not ready do moves too soon/not be taught proper body mechanics and engagement etc. Everyone needs to have a good sense of their own limits and a good sense of self preservation. 😀

OK, thanks for the link, good to see the views, but yeah, I can't justify the $$ either. I should sew my own. 🙂

Shoot, there are no shots of the back (or front)? Or color swatches? Cool stuff, but if I can't see both the front and back I'm not buying..!

this is less about flexibility and more about core and proper engagement…can you show a video of you trying to go into it?

@CapFeb–no booty, ever? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif I didn't know people felt this way! I just watched Chalese's BSB video and damn, does she COMMAND the booty and accent the music perfectly with the pops! Love it!

I was just coming on here to add add'l thoughts, but mostly it's been covered. 🙂

I would consider WHY you want to teach. After all, once you add up insurance, research, education (ongoing and continuous!), equipment, lesson planning, your time and effort, gas, rent, etc etc…at the end of the day you really have to WANT to teach and have that passion for it.

I would say…yes..it's necessary. Others can chime in. I believe the cost is just under $300 (for one year). I would think studios would require you to have it? Their insurance would not cover you in case of an incident.

Edit: I mean, if I was teaching private lessons outside of the studio, I'd charge $45+, but I only teach them in the studio.

I would highly recommend NOT teaching out of your home, for liability reasons. You will need instructor insurance–make SURE it's specific to pole. You'll also need a waiver for students to sign. Can you find a place to teach in that won't cost so much (ie-in hourly rent of the space) as to make you just barely break even when said and done?

As far as what to charge…what will the market bear? IE-what market are you targeting? Personally, I charge $45 +. If I have to go somewhere and set up a pole, I have to factor that in.

I'll see if I can think of more.

    Well said, Chem.

I've 'known' of KT Coates ever since I delved into the world of pole, a good many moons ago, but I've never paid much attention honestly. According to PDC, "KT was an innovator of pole fitness taking away its exotic image and presenting it in a fitness and gymnastic format."

I didn't get into pole for that. I don't pole like that. I like the article quote: "…my heart beats for the glamour."

Can you post a video? That will help. You can always slide your hands down out of the way to get a good knee pit grip.
