I'm 41 going on 42 and have been poling for a little over a year with zero dance background. I've never been stronger in my life!!! Some days tricks are impossible, but more often than not I find its mind over matter. Flexibility is a big hurdle & sometimes fear– but I have to believe that we can regenerate & change our bodies through consistently working towards the goals….we are dynamic creatures. Wish I discovered this earlier but its truly amazing what we can do when we are determined:)

I'm suffering too from that awful splits that "popped" urgh!! Its been 4 months. I saw physio and he said find Myfascial release massage therapy which I have yet to try. Do you keep stretching even with the ache? Does the pain just slowly fade? I can't believe how long its been and even with 2 straight weeks off the pinch is still there. Any ideas on recommended streches for heaing? It has totally messed with my ability to do pole or even dance freely:(

I finally abandoned the extention idea because it was too high maintenance & damage from pulling on the scalp – so I've committed to my OWN hair health…I just read the HAIR BOOK by Philip Kinsley a trichologist (hair specialist) and his advice in a nutshell is:
>wash daily! keep scalp super clean followed by conditioner on the ends
>deep condition 1x week, treat it like silk / rarely brush
>it starts from the inside = healthy diet veges & protein
> massage your scalp daily (i use pure coconut oil)
>consider your genetics and hair type & accept what you have
>exercise
>& don't stress because that makes you lose it!!
All I know is growing it out is a VERY slow process for my super fine curly hair. Not patient!

things pole dancers say – how about…."I can NOT dance to THAT song…." or "poles are so cold" or "its not what you think it is"… & at home…"kids get off my pole"

Hi Paulette – with all due respect to our loving husbands & other halfs…this movement is ALL about YOU losing yourself to the moment…mostly alone it seems. No "performance" no judgement but rather tapping into that deep soulful erotic side of ourselves expressed through our dancing. The S I've been learning is how to get out of my head. Being super slow and present in the moment – which often seems impossible at home with kids & responsibilities & my head chatter!!! But I think it is achievable with practice — even with the chaos around. Finding the zone…getting there is the journey. Keep pursuing it! I think the movement comes naturally when you are in that zone – when you think too hard its gone….very elusive!

mine moves too…seems to loosen after a few uses…. I always make sure I line up the screws with the Xs but it still always ends up twisting a bit….is it fixable?

There is NOTHING wrong with you! For one thing pole is incredibly challenging. Its amazes me how when I finally get something it just "clicks" — like when you are a kid and ride your bicyle solo for the first time. It seems soooo hard then magically you're up. Overthinking kills it for me….also making sure you break down the move to execute: ex. inverting…hips close & slightly in front of pole, ribs behind pole, low strong arm grip, tilt back, pull down on pole to elevate -not just throwing yourself into it. Having a plan helps remove that paralysis of not being able to do it & then you won't need the steps – you'll just do it magically. You'll get it!!

I am curious abou this too! I have the same issue but I'm 40 so mine is probably age related..but all my research leads to low body fat and genetics. I did ask my Dr. about it and she just said "do you work out a lot? lift weights?" – unfortunately I don't find it attractive at all:( but it won't stop me from poling!! Is common with other polers?!?

Interesting…I've got a super strong core but maybe mentally keeping it tight after training to "use" my core. I'll have to try to release opposing muscle…thanks!

urgh…it is such a bummer to get these injuries. I currently have a VERY painful rhomboid/trapezius pulled during an inversion that my chiro said REST & ICE & TIME are the only cure so I am forcing myself to stay off the pole. I kept sneaking back to class and getting moves in and now 3 weeks later still in pain so I'm taking Dr. orders finally. Staying off so I can get back on asap!! he said walk/elliptical in the meantime which does not inspire me much…can't wait to get back to the pole!!! Hope you feel better soon.

I give you girls credit for your determination to keep going with your health obstacle! I have been reading an amazing book called Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr – she had cancer and totally changed her life with a holistic/green plant based diet. NOT that you have her problem but I have been using the theory of green juice & eating tips to gain enery and general health (I'm over 40) to be a stronger poler! …. and I wonder if it might help you get through let flare ups etc…..Im no Dr. but I'm totally amazed how my body has responded to plant based/gluten free lifestyle. Hope you feel better soon & back to the pole soon!!
