Thank you!! I'm trying to not make myself go crazy, but I kind of am lol. I'm starting to be a little better to where if I'm really not in the mood to get on the pole, or do much of anything exercise related, I don't force myself to do it. I try and get on the pole at least every two days, and I usually WANT to…..sometimes I don't want to do every other day, and I've been more lenient with myself to realize I don't HAVE to. I don't want to make it a chore, I want it to keep being fun! But, I just don't want to slow down my progression or muscle building, and sometimes I feel like every two days isn't enough….or that when I do pole, I'm not doing enough (hence the idea of working out off of the pole). I think i'm too hard on myself sometimes, but I really would like to build more muscle, and I know for a fact that with just pole, I have, but it's definitely been a decently slow progression & seeing this little progress makes me want to do more lol.

I don't post videos on facebook, for that reason. It's not just my family, it's a lot of people. I have guys on my facebook that i've went to school with, are friends with, who are friends with my husband 😡 lol….so, I don't post videos. I know how men's minds work, and they don't see pole as a cool sport or art. If I was as advanced as some of the women on here, to where I was doing mostly awesome flips and tricks during my practice or routine, I would probably totally post some vids….but, right now I don't know much of that, which means I'm still doing a lot of spins and "sexy" stuff (I guess you could call it lol) to compensate for that, I take tons of videos for myself, and to track my progress, but definitely no posting!

I posted two pictures & man you would think that I posted naked pictures on my page lol. People don't understand the way we see pole, unfortunately!

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would go to something like "open pole" at a studio, but not amateur night at a strip club….because I feel like that would give people the wrong idea, and plus that's not the kind of pole I like or like to do lol. I have nothing against exotic dancers, but that is the stereotype pole dancers are thrown into by doing pole…when really there is a WHOLE other side to it. I always stress that to friends/families who are not familiar with the pole I do, or am learning to do. At strip clubs, dancing isn't really about cool moves & inverts & strength….it's about basically being seductive & using dance to reference sexual stuff.

Its all up to what YOU want to do, but I am just saying in case you think it's gonna be the kind of pole you see on here, most men don't want to see that….and most likely the managers of the club are assuming most girls will be shaking their stuff on the pole, not doing a bunch of tricks lol. If you're okay with that kind of stuff though, and that's the way you use your pole, then go for it!

Lol. I was the same way! I started about a month and a half ago, and I love it! But, man was I discouraged when I first started. I couldn't do a pole hold at all! My upper body strength was nonexistent. Luckily, with my own willpower & the help and encouragement of the lovely ladies on this site, I stuck with it! I can now do a pole hold like a pro! :p I can do pretty much all of the beginner moves & am now working on my basic invert. Glad you are sticking with it too. I'm not doing any studio lessons either, besides Veenas:). If you ever want to Skype and practice together, especially since were both newbies & are pretty much going at the same pace, we can! Calipolepixie and I skype sometime, and it's a great help and encouragement. I was nervous to get on Skype at first lol….but it's good 🙂

June 12, 2013 at 8:13 pm in reply to: How did you meet your significant other?

My husband and I met on a cruise when I was 13, and him 17. I would always see him playing basketball during the day, and me and the other girls I had met were always watching him (like creeps!!! lol) and wondering how old he was, if he had a girlfriend (*rolls eyes*), etc. We finally went up to and IN the basketball court one day, and then we all whispered telling each other to go ask how old he was. No one would do it. I finally said "I don't care, I'll do it, we'll never see this kid again after the cruise!" (so unlike me, I'm usually shy),  and I asked him how old he was. After that, we didn't talk much, we would run into each other the last few days on the cruise, and talk a little bit…but it was too much of an age difference then, we had nothing in common & we weren't doing the same things lol. About a month after the cruise, I found him on Myspace & added him. We talked all of the time, through AIM, myspace, phone calls, etc. We talked about everything,  and we both talked as if we were dating, but it was one of those things where we knew it wasn't going to happen, and at that time we were okay with just having a fun, flirty, 'different' relationship. When I was 16, and him 20, he came to see me (I was in NJ, him NY). I really fell for him that night, and we had an awesome time, we both decided that we didn't want to do long distance though, I didn't even have my license at that time lol….literally within that same week, I went back to my ex boyfriend & only a couple weeks later he got a girlfriend, and then left for the Marine Corps 2 months later. We lost contact for a few months, and then started talking a lot more when we both had gone through break ups with our exes. I think at that point in our lives, we started to know that a relationship between us was possible, and something we wanted to "test out".  I went to visit him after he got back from his first tour in Afghanistan in 2010, and then visited him in NY when he had leave to go hom after his deployment, I decided I would move down there (NC) & that I could not be away from him anymore, and let the opportunity of a relationship go! We got married in Nov of 2010, I was only 18 & him 22. We had a beautiful baby girl in 2012. And now we are currently going through a deployment, and I cannot wait to see him again!! Lol. It is SO crazy how things work out, it still is so surreal to me that this is how we ended up! But I do definitely feel like it was meant to be all along.

Thank you so much for even more feedback! You all are so awesome! And each post definitely put a smile on my face. Even though I KNEW in the back of my mind that all you amazing dancers did not just start out knowing everything, it feels better to actually hear it. It also is good to know that I am not the only one who has felt discouraged, and it's awesome how you all pulled through that, and I will too!

Tonight I tried again on my pole. I did about 45 minutes on there. I was hoping for an hour, but I stopped myself when I was getting tired….because I knew FORCING would just make me reluctant to continue. My body told me that was enough, and my crazy mind always thinks "well, I didn't even get a workout from 45 minutes"….but I DID, and I'm glad I didn't decide against getting on my pole tonight. I didn't do the 30 day take off, or any beginner lessons; I just put on youtube music videos & did my thing. Just danced, did some squats, pole hold, and a couple spins over and over. I tried to pole climb twice & wasn't THAT bad…very sloppy, but I got myself up for the most part, and could slide down instead of just plopping…so instead of looking at the negative of it, I am happy with the positive. I know I have a LONG journey ahead of me, and I think that I was really just getting ahead of myself, I will try not to do that anymore!

I really am so thankful for all of these posts, and SO thankful that I found this site!! So much encouragement and helpfulness. Thank you!!

Thank you ladies!! I love reading all of your advise and encouraging words :). I am going to keep up with it, and go slow, and not focus on what I CAN'T do.

Sassypants, thank you for that video!! lol. Honestly, that's a lot more than I can do. I cannot do one handed spins, nor can I do body rolls like you!!! But, I watched your "one year" video after, and I LOVED it! Definitely gave me more hope lol. It was awesome! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Thank you all! This helped a lot. I figured out my pole and "fixed" it so it is easily changed from spin to static.

I always have been one to give up easily, and I was hoping to not feel that way about pole because of how much I wanted to do it. I guess I was just expecting to jump in there & at least be able to do SOME things…which was is unrealistic, and I guess it discouraged me a little. It's just frustrating when I don't see any progress…but I do have to remember that it's ONLY been two weeks. Veena, I do love the 30 day takeoff, there are a lot of workouts that I've never done or have seen, and it helps. I personally just was imagining a more "hands on" learning tricks and spins right away lol, I had no idea…and still have no idea..the "correct" place to start with pole. I definitely need to gain strength, and that is why I appreciate the 30 day. I think I may try and do my own workouts, and incorporate different strength training moves from the days, just so I don't feel so reluctant to do it & feel like I don't want to do it.

So, I also have a question for everyone, where did YOU start? What did you start with, and how long did you practice the one specific thing before you threw ANYTHING at all else in? I am going to continue strength training, even at the gym if I can get there, just to increase my upper body strength especially, but I'd really like to do more pole stuff. A few of you are saying I should not be doing pole climbs or sits…and I thought those were one of the first "beginner" things I should learn, so really I am still confused and learning & everything else. What do you suggest I do pole wise? Spins? I've tried a few different floor work things, and with those I've caught on pretty quickly, and am really wanting to do anything on the pole, I want to feel like I'm learning something new along with building my strength. Is this a good idea, or should I just strictly build my strength first.

Sorry for the novel, and thank you to whoever reads this lol, and to everyone who has responded 🙂

Mummyof3, no I have not! Now that all the wonderful ladies are giving me advice, I think it was/is just me being a beginner & not having good strength or grip lol.

Autumn, I am in Jacksonville :). Hubby is stationed on Camp Lejeune.

Amber, I will for sure post some videos to get feedback from you all, and to track progress:).

Sensualrain, I decided to go with the 30 day take off! I've only been hearing awesome things!!

That's good to hear! I am one to get discouraged easily….I hate it, but it's the way I've always been. After seeing my first pole dancing video, I became hooked & knew I wanted to try it out for myself. So, here I am!! lol. I am trying to have complete mind of matter, and not get discouraged that I have no upper body strength, when poling requires so much of it….I will get there! Poling makes your chest bigger?! lol.

Thank you ladies! I have bought the lessons, and started last night. I just have to say, wow!! lol…I definitely did not think pole dancing was a cake walk, but I did not realize just how much strength it requires & how hard it is, especially when you're just beginning. I could hardly do a pole hold :/ and once I got to another exercise that required me to pull up, I was just completely unable to do it. I am now going to do the 30 day take off (last night I was just going through beginning strength training) and follow that :). I definitely have a long way to go, but am ready to stick with it & get better & stronger!!

Thank you!! That actually makes me a little happy to know that it is normal for all of this to happen when first starting out! lol. I think I will get the lessons tonight & start! I have not done much at all to have upper body strength….so I hardly have any. I am going to stick with it! I didn't think it'd be easy….but honestly didn't think it'd be so hard lol. I'm excited to start learning though, and eventually I will know what I'm doing! 🙂
