Desirae, They have pole play every Saturday at 10 if you would like to come play. The drop in class rates are 1 for $15, 2 for $25 or 3 for $30. I did the drop in rates at first while deciding which of their classes I liked. Then I bought a membership accordingly. The girls there are really sweet. Come check it out sometime. I'm usually there every Saturday for pole play.

There is also a studio just north of Des Moines in Ankeny. http://tgrfitness.com/ The instruction there is amazing and they are a fraction of the price of Kees. I've done both. Nothing against Kees, they just don't fit in my budget anymore.

My hubby bought me a huge one for my birthday from a local glass company. Look of glass companies in your area, most likely they also make mirrors. Also, ask is they have an irregular size they can't use. We got a huge discount on a mirror that wasn't quite 6'x6'. I suspect they were making it for another job and didn't cut it correctly.

I have a brass x-pole and I do like it. And yes, it is sturdy. As far as grippiness goes, all brass is different depending on brand since brass is an alloy. I've danced on several different brands of brass poles and all the of them had a different feel. As far as which brand to go with, ask what brand your work and studio use, most companies now make removeable poles for home use. That way you know what "feel" of brass to expect when you get your pole.

Hi Vegan, I have the same problem of overly sweaty hands. I actually layer grip products on my hands to get the desired grip I need. I put a layer of itac2 level 4 on first (which is convienent because I use it on my body) then I put tite grip on over that. As far as finishes go, I have a brass, chrome, and stainless. I find the brass, since it's more porous, will absorb the sweat some. But I really like chrome and stainless for leg and knee pit holds, so it's a toss up.

I have both Ellie and Pleaser shoes. I find that Ellie shoes are wider in general including the ankle so if you have smaller ankles you'll need to make an extra hole punch in the ankle strap. I like pleaser shoes but my toes do peek out extra or hang over a little in peep toe styles (a.k.a. stripper toes). I've found if I'm going for a closed toed shoe or boot in both Ellie and Pleaser to go up a size from what I take in open toed varieties to compensate for this. Hope this helps.

MemberJanuary 6, 2012 at 6:05 am in reply to: Death Lay in general but especially on 45 mmYou can do a death lay on a 45. It just takes practice. If you need to practice your thigh grip I like a move called Flyer, a picture of which can be found here http://www.wikipole.org/. You can get into flyer from an Aysha or handstand if you prefer to practice it low. I agree with dustbunny in getting a friend to help you practice death lay low. It's an intimidating move when you first start practicing it. Best of Luck!
