I was doing a drop split on my bad side left leg out front 3 weeks ago I was warmed up and when I dropped into it heard and felt a pop. I was in a lot of pain I got an ultrasound and MRI done and it appears it’s a grade 3 tear from the pelvic bone / ischial tuberosity I am so devasted I had just changed studios and this was my second class in my new studio for the term . I have a performance in late February so in about three months I am wondering if I will be able to perform still ? Just. Not including any split moves or anything that will hurt it ? I am going to physio and have exercises to do each day . I’m just so upset and as others have said I keep thinking back to the move and just wishing I could turn back time .

Thanks for everyone’s input and advice! I called Australia’s x pole retailer and they gave me the mobile number of their technician he came to my house in 2 hours as I did not live too far away. He said there was a batch of poles from china that had incorrect parts which caused the top parts not to work together and grind and get stuck. He put in a washer and that fixed it. He also said they would post me a correct piece. I was not home when he fixed it , my partner was , so I am not so sure what he actually did to get it down . So it seems to be a common problem with some at least in Australia. I still don’t know why there is a crack he said I had put it right on where the two joists cross where they are perpendicular .

Thanks guys for all your advice. Yes I am always fully warmed up before I attempt splits stretching. We usually do it at the studio after our warm up and at the end of the stretch session.

I do run  qute a bit and thinking possibly certain muscles ie calf muscles  are really tight due to that which is not helping with certain stretches. I know my hip flexors are really tight and I am working on them to loosen them up.

I do have the issue of hyper extended due to double joints and this happens just when I stand up my knees hyper extend . I have started foam rolling as well, my partner at home uses it every day and is always on me to keep at it with the foam roller .

I will just keep going with my stretching and foam rolling and just being really sure I am super warmed up befre any deep stretching.

thank you again for all your advice

     🙂

Hi there, I bought what I was using at my studio as that is what I was used to. I am in Australia and I think  many studios here tend to use smaller poles, we use a 38mm at my studio. So I have 40mm brass spinning and static X pole,  Xpert.

I love it so much. I love the brass because of the grip factor. It is really warm here in Australia so the brass helps and it is what I am used to. I have heard chrome is super slippery.

I would suggest getting a 40 or 45.  50MM seems really hard to grip and 40 is amazing for gripping but I have heard can be a lot harder when it comes to the leg grips so 45 is a good middle of the road choice and definitely get one you can put on spin mode so you can have the option.  I learnt on a spinny pole and have not done much static work but I have the option to put it on static.

there is a really cool online shop Miss Fancy Pants, she does a lot of retro wear including high waisted shorts and roller derby shorts which also could double as pole shorts.

Not sure about postage costs to the US though as its from Australia

    Thanks Veena for your explanation.

Azblanco and Smokegrey  I attend Studio Verve in Surry Hills in Sydney.  More of a pole fit studio, very different style of pole to Bobbis I think.

Yep we have spray  bottles of meths/water everywear with towels to clean poles.

Great , thank you for all your advice!

Really interesting to hear all the thoughts about grip out there.

I generally just use it on my hands when it is really hot in the studio and a bit on my thighs when I just find I am sweating way too much. I am more than happy to kepp using my trusty old grip I think! I feel much safer with it when I am upside down with split grips doing extended butterfly etc..

We are not allowed to wear shoes at the studio due the fact that you could use them to climb. Bare feet only and no feet when climbing , straight legs  up pretty much all the time!

I did about a year of Lyra and I loved it. I did it with my sister to combat my fear of heights.  I tried this first and then discovered that a few of the girls who were in my Lyra class also did pole. Pole was something I always wanted to try so I gave that a go and now I am hooked. Lyra is fantastic and very different from pole. I found that in the class that I took we learnt at a much quicker pace than in pole which was a really slow build up to inverting. I guess because in Lyra you have huge crash mats underneath you where in pole there is just the hard floor to catch you !

I wish I could afford to do both but I cant so I am sticking with pole for the time being. Oh I have also been spinning fire poi for about 8 years now and perform at childrens parties and some events here and there.
