Hi,
Studio owner & teacher here.
Just my two cents: You can’t cater to all of your students. There will always be some that like one thing over the other, no matter what you offer.
Also, the more options you offer, the more they will ask for. I you only offer 1 or 2 options, they will be happy. Sounds crazy, but it’s true.
So my advice would be: Teach what you feel comfortable with, try to incorporate tricks as well as dance and focus on what your style is.Our classes are like this:
– Warm-up
– warm-up dance (which is usually a repetition of things they alredy know)
– Conditioning
– new tricks, spins, dance moves
– combining the new stuff into a small Combo
– Freestyle dance with lights down
– stretchingAnd keep in mind: You can’t make everyone happy and you don’t have to. If you know this, it will take off a lot of pressure!
Also, I read something really interstin what I try to Keep in mind:
33% should be things they already know
33% should be new stuff, easy to achieve (even if it’s just a small piece!)
33% should be things they have to work for a little more
That way, they get reminded of what they have achieved already, have a feeling of success that makes them proud and happy and something that they want to achieve in the future 🙂 -
AllysonKendal, yes that’s pretty much how it is, sort of like the cooling bags, but inside it’s soft. I don’t think the plastic will crack, it’s really soft.

I have one and it’s a big help!

Ok, since I’m quite motivated at the moment, I’m in as well!
I’ve been stretching for 2 years now (but not as constantly as I should have) and made only 2 inches on my side splits (didn’t measure middles).
It’s 4 more inches to go, so I’m not very optimistic that I can quadruple the progress, but we’ll see by the end of the year how far I will have come. I’m gonna take some pictures and post them later this week.
Little Swift, I’m sorry for your loss, but good to see you’re back into training.

I definetly won’t give up – I can’t, since I teach our strong & flexi class at least once a week (sometimes it’s good to be forced). And before every class I teach I add a little stretching to the warm up.
I tried the 6 weeks thing, but it didn’t work for me. In general I don’t feel that the PNF Thing is for me. My legs are really strong and I can’t really tire the muscles doing so. I feel that they refuse to loosen up even more if I contract them before.
I did other programs as well including Veena, Alethea, Cleo, … and picked out what seems to work for me.I feel what works better for me is holding stretches quite long and contracting the opposite or other muscles to to pull deeper, for example when I’m stretching the hamstrings I would engage my abs and quads.
I think the worst problem are my hip flexors, I think.

No, I don’t feel sexy all the time. Sometimes I’m the squirrel, sometimes the minion. But sometimes, I’m super sexy! Here are my tips:
1. Try to feel every part of your Body. Be aware of all your limbs.
2. Feel every movement, even the super small ones and try to exagerate every movement, for example try to really arch and round your back to the Maximum in a Body wave, when you lift a leg, at the end try to lift it one more inch
3. Pretend that you are someone else. I often imagine I’m Alethea Austin or an exotic dancer in a Strip Club
4. Dance for an audience, Keep eye contact and communicate with your movements. If you’re too shy, pretend there is an audience, works as well 🙂 If it doesn’t work for you, Close your eyes
5. Look for slow Music that you really like
6. Turn down the lights
7. heat up the room
8. don’t do any tricks and stuff that you have to think about, Keep it simple – this helps switching off the head -

A little research my boyfriend did, using the data we have gained so far, pointed out that returning customers (who come back and book a course after a trial class) are mostly between 20 and 26 years old, so I’m targeting my facebook ads to this clientel. I hope I could help you.

Just wanted to say, the 20 books for our studio arrived safely in Germany! Thank you so much, they are wonderful!

Well I feel like using stock photos is a little bit cheating. I mean, I know a studio and they advertise with an image on Anastasia Shuktorova in a rainbow marchenko…! I bet no one of the instructures can do that move (otherwise they probably would have taken a picture of that pose themselves) so I think this is taking credits for someone else’s achievments!
For our studio we use photos of ourselves, because we want to keep it personal and want to show what we can do and what we can teach.
