Hey all! I’m 38, with 3 sons, 2 dogs a cat and a husband (he’s 27 and keeps me young!). I’m 5’1” and weighed 154 when I started poling last fall. I’m down to 140 so far https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I have no dance background, nor have I ever stuck to an exercise program before. I work as a supervisor on a crisis line and enjoy reading and backpacking. I was thrilled to read there are lots of ladies here that are close to my age. I was so sure I was the "granny"; it gives me hope that I’m NOT too old to learn the harder inverts! BTW, yeah for me I got the fallen angel!!

"If you don’t get offended every now and then, you’re not living in a democracy". You were expressing yourself honestly with no intention to insult anyone’s beliefs. Those who find that offensive and insult you- I say screw ’em! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif You shouldn’t have to tolerate intolerance! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Veena- do you allow cats to become members? Tanis’s dancing is better than mine! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

MemberApril 10, 2009 at 11:47 pm in reply to: Husband wants to take me to a strip clubOMG! I used to totally HATE strip clubs. My first husband would go once every year or two and I would refuse to touch him for a week because it felt like cheating. I am a feminist and felt it was so degrading to women. Then somehow my opinion started to transform. I thought the men are being exploited just as much as if not more than the women. These ladies are able to extract huge cash for playing a fantasy! So somehow my current hubby convinced me to take him to a club for his birthday. I was really shy and couldn’t even look up at first. Then I looked up and saw that it wasn’t nearly as "sleazy" as I had expected! I started tipping based on athletic ability and had a great time. Next birthday, I was excited to go and "check out some moves". My husband sneak attacked me with a lapdance, and I kinda even enjoyed it (don’t tell him- he thinks I was doing him a favor!!) It beat having her grope my husband! You know, before I went to a club, I would have been worrying what my husband was up to there. Now I know and it’s not as bad as I thought! He stares at some T&A and hands out cash to any girl that gets close to him. Men really are so simple (to quote Saschapoles). My husband gets mad when I talk to the girls because it makes them "real people" and spoils his fantasy! LOL! Best of all, going to the club adds naughtiness to our marriage- it’s just good clean fun! And of course it lead to me getting my own pole. Plus, I am known as the coolest wife at my husband’s company!

I agree with the psychological profile suggested earlier. I talk to these type of losers on the crisis line all the time. He doesn’t know nothing about you or pole dancing or women. You aren’t old, hell you won’t even hit your prime until you’re approaching 40 like me! And your body is f@#$ing amazing, for someone with 4 kids or no kids. (I hate when people tell me I look good for someone with 3 kids). Ok Veena, You HAVE to share this a@@hole’s identitiy so we can all gang up and give him an internet a@@ whooping!! Of course we’ll do it in a very ladylike fashion!

I vote for Amethyst; it’s such a pretty stone and sounds like a good dancer name!

I’ve been poling for about 7 months, but only "seriously" for about 4. Things that used to be painful, like the crucifix, don’t hurt anymore. So now I’ve got to try harder moves in order to "feel the burn"! No pain, no gain-right? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif And if I don’t have bruises, I feel I’m not working hard enough! Just remember: bruises are sexy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

Welcome to poling! It’s the best workout I’ve ever had. I’m 38 and have tried ALOT of different things: rollerblading, yoga, backpacking. I was in the Army, so I’m familiar with tough exercise programs! I started in the fall, and I’m already in the best shape I’ve been in at least 10 years. My progress was slow the first few months because I was in such bad shape; once I got my strength it got more fun and less frustrating. I have a platinum stage in my bedroom, so I work out almost every day, sometimes twice. The stage takes up WAY too much room and is much more expensive than the xpole. Hindsight is 20/20! I originally got the pole as a birthday gift for my husband, ya know spice things up a bit https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif But it has grown into so much more. There are so many different styles of dance and music, and reasons to dance, that every session is different. Did you ever see the movie "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"? Poling has turned me into Sarah Jessica Parker’s character: "I love to dance". I sound so cheesy, but it’s just so true. I’m a pole geek! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif -
Love the lessons! Veena breaks down the moves and explains everything so well! I started off trying to copy moves I saw girls doing, but I didn’t get very far. With the lessons, I mastered every move I was physically strong enough to do within a few days. Now I’m progressing through the intermediate moves more slowly as I get in better shape. For me, the lessons are better than a live instructor; I’m not ready for public viewing yet!

Poor puppy! I’ve kicked my dog in a spin at least a dozen times. For some reason, she just doesn’t learn to back up. She seems to be afraid for my safety when I pole-maybe she’s smarter than I think! LOL.

Hey Charley! I live in Michigan, too- in the country north of Pontiac. Where do you teach? I’m still pretty new to poling, but I’m getting to a place where I could use a spotter and some live direction for the more advanced moves. Welcome to Studio Veena! Jungle Cat lied, we do bite outside of holidays, but only when begged! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_jokercolor.gif

MemberMarch 20, 2009 at 12:05 am in reply to: trying to convince parents pole dancing isn’t skanky!Hmmm, the "stripper shoes" are gonna be a hard sell! LOL! I don’t let my kids see me in mine. As for legitimizing our sport, maybe you could show them some videos that showcase the strength and skills required, and more dancey than sexy. Fleur has really beautiful vids, the kind my husband won’t even bother watching over my shoulder! LOL! Your parents just need some educating to get them past "OMG! Our baby girl is stripping!" Good luck!

The pain does go away! I hardly flinch after I’ve done a move for a few weeks. And remember: BRUISES ARE SEXY!

MemberFebruary 25, 2009 at 7:49 pm in reply to: I think I’m going to be off the pole for a while/permanentlyI second what everyone else said! Screw the YouTube trolls and listen to the insights of your fellow polers! I’m a 38 yo overweight mom of three (with the saggy boobs, c section scar and stretch marks to prove it). I’ve only been dancing about 6 months, and there are plenty of moves I’m pretty sure I’ll never master. But I can walk in the 5 inch heels (while holding onto my pole), and I don’t fall down much! Forget the goals and focus on the process; it’s all about fun, exercise and sensuality. BTW, LOVE the funky red hair! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif
