I just get nervous and stupid when he watches, even if the camera is on. I’ve seen many posts from others expressing the same thing.

You are HOTT, and ya got the moves and the attitude!! If someone says otherwise-
SCREW THEM!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_blackeye.gif
I’ve spent the last 10 months poling my ass off and avoding all the yummy cholesterol, fat and sugar- mostly to make my body look better. I lost about 18 pounds and a couple sizes. Know what, I ain’t any happier with my body. Now my boobs are smaller and droopier and my stretch marks are more noticeable. The hubby liked me the way I was, and now he’s paranoid I’ll attract other men. It’s been a real let down that I’m not happier with this body. Now I’m trying to focus on the health and strength aspect now. The one bonus: I can pole better!!!
Like the others said- do it for you, just don’t be surprised if it doesn’t seem better.
Peace. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif -
Hi dee ho neighbor!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_study.gif
I’m in Clarkston (home of Pine Knob), that’s just north of Pontiac. There’s a few metro detroiters here. Enjoy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif -
When my twins were toddlers we had the "nakey baby" song and dance! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif
Now that they’re 11, they freak out if anyone sees them changing, even their twin. All 3 of my boys get flustered if they catch my hubby or I changing, and they look uncomfortable with my booty shorts, too. I can only guess they get that from their dad, cuz my husband hates clothes and I don’t see the problem with a little nudity now and then. I’d rather have kids exposed to naked bodies than violence.
Of course, I’m not your average mom; I’m a smidge liberal. I’m proud to say the twins just recently discovered that men can’t marry each other, and they think "that’s retarded!". https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif -
Thanks again Veena, you just saved me more frustration! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
It’s so hard to learn the mechanics without live instruction!
Sounds like the trick to balancing is keeping yourself a little bent forward at the waist.
I will have to make a video soon to show off what you’ve taught me. Negotions with the hubby over vids has stalled so many times, I may have to go on the DL!

I kinda did it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
I tried it last night with the hubby spotting me for the first time ever- so that was kinda scary! I’ve never felt I needed a spotter before, but now the moves are getting crazy! Anyways, I was able to get my legs off the pole a couple times. But here’s my next question: should I work on getting my legs straight or split fisrst-does it matter? Okay, I just looked up the move on wikipole and realized I should have had my butt sticking out instead of having myu hips against the pole- I bet will make it easier! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
Back to the pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_blackeye.gif
Thanks again for the tips! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif -
First, Venna-
I also TOTALLY loved the Gimmee More vid! That and the JT My Love one were my inspiration when I started poling! Don’t ever delete them!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif
Second, Glitter-
I so want to go into business with you! Unless of course my meditation and therapy retreat/backpacking expedition leading/woodworking/organic garden business takes off! I LOVE the multi-purpose business ventures! Can we sell fudge and do yoga as well? And maybe sell organic earth friendly beauty products? And since I’m a social worker and work on a crisis line, maybe I could do some counseling, too! You come in and get a cupcake and a makeover, learn to pole, and get the guts to leave your loser boyfriend! I live near Detroit, so I could totally commute to Chicago! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif -

MemberJuly 29, 2009 at 9:27 pm in reply to: New to poledancing… any tips to build up strenght ?I hear ya! When I started poling a year ago, I couldn’t do much on the pole for months because I was overweight and lacked muscles. Any upper body work will help. I found "girlie" pushups (on the knees) helpful in the beginning, as well as all sorts of free weight stuff. Of course any work you can do on the pole will help you do more on the pole (kinda funny how that works!) Just keep plugging away and you’ll get stronger. Nearly a year ago I couldn’t hold myself in a spin very long, and now I can caterpillar, butterfly and air invert- and my shoulder mount is almost presentable. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

Yes, if you doing the forearm grip that can make a big difference for you to feel more stable. So.. your not trying to do the forearm grip with your arm directly in front of you body line but to the side. Does that make sense? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Thnx V! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
I got it straight in my head, now let’s see if my body gets it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
I’ll try tonight!

Veena, so your body should be off to the same side as your higher hand?

I just got back from a week working in Manhattan, where I poled all over: Street signs, brass poles holding up canopies in front of fancy hotels(excellent for poling, always well polished!), Park Avenue, Central Park. I couldn’t help myself, I missed my pole!! My co-worker was a tad uncomfortable being my photograopher, I had to buy her a few drinks. I got some interesting looks and comments and hopefully a few good pics for my profile!

Azzwoo- LOVE that pic!
My husband got embarrassed last weekend when I started poling on a tree at our campsight. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif
After my sons joined in, I thought our neighbors would faint!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif -

MemberJuly 17, 2009 at 7:12 pm in reply to: Partying with A Platinum Stage…Any limitations?I’ve got a platinum stage. I second Veena- make sure it’s weighted down with sandbags or something inside the stage. Floorwork is almost impossible cuz you only have two feet around the pole. Just be aware when mounting and dismounting that your feet will be on the floor a foot lower than your hands or head on the stage, it’s a minor adjustment I can make switching back and forth to permanent mounts. Other than that, I can totally rock out on mine, and I weighed over 150 when I started poling last year. Height is really no problem, just start a little lower with some things, and you can caterpillar by letting your upper body slide back down.
Oh, and when you do fall off the pole, it ends up being a little worse cause you’ll probably fall off the stage afterward. So… don’t fall!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_blackeye.gif
The stage does give you the advantage of being higher than the audience! Enjoy! -
You could try being honest but vague or evasive. Perhaps tell her it’s from "vertical dancing" or working out and change the subject (without seeming nervous). I can divert a question by laughing and making a joke and then steering the conversation away. Like "Ha ha, looks like I was beaten, huh? (insert funny story about someone else who questioned bruises)". Or "I bruise so easily! (insert story about a time you hurt yourself working out)". Or "I’m such a klutz, I hurt myself sitting still!" The trick is to take control of the conversation. Just remember that it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, some people are just closed minded and not worth the hassle. Good luck!
