It really varies depending on where you live, if you do it for a living or if it’s just a fun one time deal. If you are looking to perform for others in the future make sure you’re not undercutting the other performers in your area by booking for super cheap. If it’s just a one time deal for a friend just ask what they were thinking as far as payment goes.

Ouch, how did the x ray turn out?

As far as other training, for now focus on flexibility as you mentioned or try working on the conditioning lessons, or even give hooping or chair work a try!

I have 2 pole spaces with 2 different sizes and love it, if you have have 2 sizes as in diameters it’s great!

About the permanent mounts…..I LOVE THEM best thing ever!! They make the pole feel more secure, and if you’re talking about xpoles, the spin mode is much smoother and faster using a mount. There is no risk of it slipping. Setting it up is so much faster than with the dome. Regardless of how you mount your pole they need to be checked every single time you dance on them. We have been renting homes for years and years and we put up the permanent mounts without issue. Just fill the holes when you take the mount down. If your joist are strong enough to hang a fan from you can put up a mount.

My husband likes to place a flat block of wood between the ceiling and the mount, drilling the wood into the joist, and then the mount into the wood and joist. This way the mount can’t rub and push into the sheet rock.

I don’t have any experience in this. Hopefully someone has an answer for you! I do know that sitting or standing for long periods of time makes them worse and they can be painful.

Shoot, I deleted the middle of my reply!!

Wraps can be helpful for people who are dealing with injury or if they have a job where they use their hands a lot like, typing, hairstylist, massage therapists, you get the idea. It can keep them from being over worked.

I think that’s about what I had written!

I use wrist wraps! HOWEVER…..I don’t suggest you start off using them when first learning. As LatinPoler mentioned I feel it’s important to develop strength in the hands, wrists and forearms FIRST. Because if you don’t you may find you’ll need to wrap to keep injury’s away or once you stop wrapping you’ll find you become injured more easily.

I DO like wraps and use them at times now that I am stronger. I only use them when I plan on doing handstand or split grip work for a large part of my training session. It can really help with fatigue and allow you to train longer. Just be careful not to over do it because you have them!

    Quick answer:
Beginners and occasional polers don’t need them (don’t let marketing tell you, you do lol)
Beginners should always build strength first by poling and training CONSISTENTLY.
Use them if you plan on training split grips or handstands longer than average.

Don’t use them EVERY TIME you train split grips and handstands.
Don’t forget to STRETCH the forearms after every session 🙂

I NEVER run and REALLY REALLY don’t like to! lol There are lots of other ways to get cardio in. Swimming, hula hooping, dancing around, try the twerking chair routine https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/56d9ab27-9fd0-41ab-b569-54e0ac110003 Walking (as you mentioned) Biking, basket ball, tennis literally any thing that keeps your heart rate elevated for an extended period of time. Studies have found that even multiple short bursts (10 mins or so) of cardio based training is very helpful.

Hi Rebecca! The schedule looks good. Depending on what you pole and chair classes are like you may want to add cardio. If they are fast and dance based then you’re good. It sounds like it might be more tricks and floor though which doesn’t give you a good cardiovascular workout.

As Strangefox said, there are a ton of great options here to help you. You could try one of the programs here and still do a class or 2 there. Just make sure to keep a rest day or 2.

Dustbunny. That sounds fun! I can’t help you with ideas tho 🙂

Krugerleo. You’ll find all kinds of help in the lessons here for new dancers. All lessons (in every section) are place in progressive order so you don’t need to worry about what to do first! You can also choose from the 30 day take off program for beginners or use one of the other programs I have. You’ll find routines and tons of things that do not need a pole but will help you with your pole journey!

The easiest way to begin any inverted pose is either holding in a tuck or with legs split (one reaching behind the other in front) helpful. A straddle is good too but if you don’t have the flexibility this wont be super helpful. The most difficult for most people to balance in is straight!

As for on the pole, the same things apply. Both of the elbow and forearm Ayesha lessons will help, also the Straight edge lesson and the more advanced Ayesha (split grip) lesson. Also the stands routine will help with all inverted balance holds. How are you getting into the pose above??

The biggest thing with balance is PRACTICE. I worked for over 2 years to be able to hold an off the pole handstand with straight legs! I still practice handstand every week or I loose them.

  • You cap off the wires and they make covers that you put over the electrical hole. I’ve had to do this in almost every space I’ve had lol

Rachel I’ve heard of that! So I guess even using royalty free doesn’t mean you can’t trouble 🙁

Neesy, I can understand how sad it would be. You put time into an account, make friends and can look back at progress. I’d be sad too!

Latin, I think YT is more like TV too, my kids all use it like TV. I think we have the best of both worlds here on SV. Easy community and video upload ability!

Side note about IG. I just realized that I may have been screwing myself on my studioveena IG account!!! I had switched it to a business account over a year ago and my interactions and follows really slowed, I didn’t know what I had done to become so irrelevant. lol It wasn’t until yesterday Webby and I realized that it was probably changing from personal to business. When you are a business account IG and FB want you to PAY to be seen. On FB if you don’t pay, your followers will not see, our assumption is IG is the same ……I was just gutted. I felt like I had missed out on reaching so many people just because I said I was a business. I changed it back yesterday to personal, but I don’t know if it will help me reach my followers or new people at this point. I’m guessing I may be slotted as a business in their algorithm. IG was a big way for me to reach new members!
