Onceuponapole – Could you share your opinions on why an app would make it easier?

Mary Nightingale – That is a very excellent point. Maintaining state is a nice feature and I wish I could recreate that for you. Let me think on this, there may be a way to do it inside the web interface.

It’s not that sites think its perfect this way, its that creating an “App” is a very expensive and time consuming endeavor. Creating an app that recreated the full functionality of this site and would work on both Android and iOS would be just as much effort and expense as creating the website itself. Then, once the app is created, you have to add features to and regression test three platforms every time you make a change.

I would very much like to make an app but the cost would be so prohibitive as to make it functionally impossible.

    – you can currently search for any of our lessons by their name and common aliases.
    – You can favorite a lesson or user video

    – You cannot currently make categories or groups of lessons or sort in a way the site does not sort

The things you can’t do is functionality that is not intrinsic to an app but simply something we would have to develop. I have added them to our idea list and we will evaluate it for inclusion in a future release.

CapFeb – In general there should be no difference in power consumption between your web browser and an app. However an app has the potential to burn much more power as rather than operating through a standardized piece of system software (your browser) it has complete access to the network interface and can create and use network connections willy nilly (yes I said willy nilly).

You can add icons to your devices screen with the following instructions:

    For android http://mobile-pixels.com/pin-webapp-website-android-homescreen/

    For iOS http://lifehacker.com/5809338/add-web-site-bookmarks-to-your-iphones-homescreen

As far as making a site easier to access, UI design is all that really matters, not how its delivered. The big problem I have with apps is that since its an additional architecture to maintain most companies actually reduce functionality in their app.

A little background on the videos and why they aren’t currently in the the newsletter.

First: we couldn’t fit all the uploads into the email we limited it to five that were randomly selected from that day’s uploads.

Second: They had a tendency to break the emails because of the required layout.

I am exploring notification options but haven’t come to any kind of decision yet.

The site will accept videos up to 2 gigabytes in size. There was previously a problem with the Silverlight plugin crashing so I have set the flash plugin as default. This problem should be resolved, if its not please let me know so we can troubleshoot and I can try reprioritizing the upload mechanisms. There are 5 different plugins that manage the uploads so that we can cover as many systems as possible, including most phones.

That is a good point Charley. Offers do need to be better crafted. Perceived value is better if your offer is an add-on rather than a reduction in price.

Get a free $50 individual assessment and training and fitness plan with the purchase of two group lessons. (for example)

Then you can meet Group On’s 50% discount requirement while maintaining your product value and selling something that doesn’t cost you anything.

A comment about Groupon and Livingsocial. These two companies provide very valuable services that can be very helpful to a business, they can drive massive amounts of traffic to you.

Their biggest failing is that they provide no education on what to do with that traffic. Post sale retention is a skill that takes years to learn organically, so if you are not provided with the tools to retain these people who walk through your doors the investment can be useless.

If you want to do a Groupon make sure that you have done extensive homework and put together a retention strategy.

If it is over nine feet it may not be disengaging the clutch inside the pole. However I would suggest calling Lizz and Randy to see what they have to say.

That was an unnecessary post quancutie23. The OP chose Little Mynx which is an excellent pole, being negative about her investment is not constructive. Lil Mynx is safe and easy to install. It is flexible enough for most people. There are no more Lil Mynx poles for sale on craigslist than XPole, in fact a random sampling of five major metros this morning showed 0 Lil Mynx and 15 XPoles.

XPole and Lil Mynx both build excellent products and if you have chosen either one you have made an excellent choice.
