Speedtest is 100% legit. Many Internet providers use it to benchmark new installs. If you were asked to pay you either clicked an advertisement or have spyware on your machine that hijacks web addresses on your computer and redirects to another site.

May 30, 2011 at 7:02 am in reply to: StudioVeena.Com Is Fully Mobile

@GlitterGoddess – There are two aspects to StudioVeena.Com mobile.

    1) The website itself.  The site automatically transforms into a mobile formatted site to be more easily viewed on a mobile device.

    2) Video.  This one is tougher, your device has to support h.264 and resizing to its native resolution in order to work properly.  All blackberry devices I tested did work, but this support is a function of the phone hardware and not WebOS.

    Hopefully this answers your question.

Since its a javascript interaction there are two likely causes:

    1) High latency on your internet connection, which is typical of dial-up, satellite and shared internet connections.

    2) A malware infection on your computer.

    Socially.

Editing of a single post can and has changed the tone or meaning of all replies after the edited post.

As a forum topic is a running conversation, editing of posts has the potential to cause some very interesting problems and has.  Because of this we decided not to allow editing of posts at this point.

@LopsiJulie – The blogs are for all members paying or not.  You start a blog simply by clicking the blogs link and then clicking "Write A Blog"

@PolefitFanatic – Reposting blogs is not an issue for Google unless they are reposted on sites with no reputation or on brand new IP addresses.  Content aggregation is a very common practice in the news and blogging industry that has proven benefits to the aggregator and content generator.

Madfelice, where are you located and how do you connect to the internet?

Our lessons are specially encoded for iPhone and iPad devices and will play very well on these devices.  However on your iPhone there are other potential issues such as downstream bandwidth from your cellular provider.  When the cellular network is congested this can cause difficulties in watching streaming content.

Known causes of underperformance of lessons streams at home are:
    1) living in an area where we do not have an edge location such as the African Continent
    2) Slow internet, if your downstream speed is less than 1 Mb per second you will have difficulty watching videos, you can test this at http://www.speedtest.net
    3) using DNS entries that are not provided by your ISP (this is very common if you have a techie or geek in your house) non-standard DNS entries can disrupt detection of the correct edge location or route your traffic through slower or more convuluted paths

I know some people have had luck on the PS3.  That being said, video delivery is very complex.  We have neither verified nor engineered specifically for the PS3.  Your platform has to support h.264 and unless it is an Android or Apple device must also support flash.

GhettoBarbie – I sent you an email regarding this, your videos are not recognized as videos by our encoder.  A common mistake is to upload a project file rather than the actual video itself.

@All – I just wanted to throw in a couple words here.  We have put alot of thought into how StudioVeena.Com is engineered and designed.  I have fifteen years experience in online marketing and business seven of them specifically in the area of social networking.

Your security is of the utmost concern to us as is the growth of the pole community.  These are two needs that often seemingly have opposing requirements.  We balance these needs by providing a relatively open community that is designed to appeal to the people who are interested in the subject matter found here.  The look and feel of this site is not an accident, it is the result of the many years of experience both on my part and the firm we hired to create the design.

It certainly is easy to create a profile here and that is by design.  Many women who are interested in pole are not ready to jump up and say "here I am".  The forum is full of members who said "I watched what was going on for a long time then finally bought my pole", likewise we recieve emails to this effect quite frequently.  If it had been difficult to join you would not be sharing your love of pole with nearly so many people accross the world.

We love you all and look forward to being your pole community for many years to come.

May 10, 2011 at 1:34 pm in reply to: Competitions vs. Showcases

I'd love to throw in my two cents, maybe I can spur some ideas that will help move the concept of showcases and competitions forward for pole.

First, we are hard-wired to enjoy watching competitions.  Competition is how pecking order was established in earlier times and is still how the majority of the animal kingdom works out first and last in social units.  Competitions naturally have more draw than a showcases because of this.

As to showcases, think about all the showcases that happen around us every day, radio personalities, television shows, sales pitches, construction work and even your line of work. Everything that we do as people are simply showcases of the our talents, regardless of whether someone sits down and watches us or not.  The point being that maybe a showcase isn't just setting people down and make them watch people's pole tricks one after another.  Maybe there are other options, the first thing that comes to mind is to use your participants to tell a story, people love stories it is engaging and will bring them back.  I also remember being at a club in san francisco called Ruby Sky, they had a belly dance troupe backing the dj for the night and they worked for a share of the liquor sales.  I think of Veena's ET video where she combined her pole skills, dance skills, creativity, story telling and video production to create a whole that was greater than any one of her many talents.  Or Charley's performance at the last detroit showcase where she really pushed to say something with her dance.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to whether a competition or showcase should be free or not, that is entirely up to the planner of the event to work out the economics on their own, and whatever they decide they need to be willing to defend just as you would with any business.

Finally, whatever you choose to do, know why you chose to do it and what you hope to accomplish.  Armed with this knowledge your critics and detractors will have absolutely no power over you because they certainly don't understand your goal or strategy and you will see that their criticism is most definitely self serving.  Without a goal and strategy in mind you will aim at many targets, and you will feel like a failure when someone tells you that you didn't do something right and it will drag you down and make you feel unnapreciated.

Hopefully this is helpful to some in this thread.
